The hotel grounds are stunning and impeccably kept. Our double bedded room was spacious & comfortable, though the dining and drinking options on-site are quite pricey. However, every staff member we encountered at the hotel, from the bellman to the front desk staff to the concierge desk, as well as the pool attendants and groundskeepers, provided outstanding service. Kudos to the Shilla Jeju team!

This high end resort is classy and luxurious with live music jazz and classical in the lobby. Feels more high end than the Lotte next door. The beds and aircon are good. Rooms are good sized but not huge. Bathrooms are well appointed and spacious. There are no blackout curtains just wooden shutters so the light comes in. They should add blackout curtains. Beware there are some toothbrushes and things on top of the minibar that aren’t free. The stuff in the bathroom is free. There is a 7 Eleven in the garden of the Lotte and a store in the All Suites next door. Check in and checkout are efficient. And bell staff are helpful and friendly. The concierge is helpful in arranging transport for sightseeing. The hotel is set back from the beach. Right now the beach access staircase is under construction. So you have to go to the next door hotel to walk to the beach. They should tell you at check in.
The restaurants are pricey so most guests eat out. Seems a shame not to lower prices a bit then the restaurants won’t be almost empty. I needed extra pillows and towels because I was in a triple and they only gave 2 sets one day but Housekeeping / front desk didn’t answer after many rings. Had to tell them at the lobby. Need to have more staff answering the phones. The kids pool is crowded in the evenings but the adult pool is fine.

Overall, good service and some staff members do their best to communicate in English and deal with foreigners.
The hotel is for couples or families without children. The pools are limiting small children. Some pools and jacuzzis are only for adults. No special pool for small children. This is complicated for parents with kids of different ages. Good buffet breakfast and excellent musical group singing by the pool.

Not the type to write reviews but had to write this one. Horrible experience. Was not allowed to check in until 1pm and when I did check in was told room was not ready for another hour. Then they got my rooms wrong. Went to the pool bar and ordered just one burger. Took over an hour to get the burger. Horrible service at this hotel.

We stayed 3 nites at The shilla Jeju . Our rooms were a deluxe double, facing the sea. However, coming from Lotte Hotel Seoul where we stayed for 4 nites, the rooms at The shilla were instantly disappointing. Even our teenaged children commented "This hotel feels very cheap n basic !) I know this is a resort hotel n the furnishings , I supposed, r supposed to reflect resort living but the furniture n bed, tables, lounge chair all didnt look luxurious, very unbecoming of a luxury-class hotel. ( Hey I know what expensive rattan furniture shd look like!). The toilet accessories r a bare minimum- no tooth brushes, no shaver. For a hotel charging more than $USD 500 a nite, the room n ungenerous toilet accessories came as an unpleasant shock. This hotel is v busy n u hear noisy guests talk along corridors. The hotel reception looks pretty luxurious but dont be fooled. What was worse was the hotel booklet describing the hotel facilities etc r ALL in Korean, causing us to wonder what we r missing out. N we did missed the complimentary wine tour because we didnt know that the tour is only in the evening ! (lost on us!!!) Even the toilet bidet is in Korean. The tv channels r mainly Korean with no translated channels unlike those at The Lotte. Since it has been around for a long time, it just tells u that English-speaking travellers are not welcome there.
I would never trust The Shilla brand ever again!

The hotel gardens and access to the beach makes the hotel an excellent location for a holiday in Jeju.We found all places in Korea to be very clean and well maintained. In this hotel the new rooms are very well furnished with excellent decor and light pastel colours. The staff are friendly and well groomed and the breakfast is excellent. We also found the Health Club to be very well set up with great equipment and a good sized indoor pool.Although we were there at the beginning of May you can't really swim in the outdoor pool or the sea until June. The only draw back was the air conditioning in the rooms and the Housekeeping service. The hotel is obviously saving energy costs because there was no air-con in the rooms at night and they told me that they only have the heating on.They virtually switch off the fresh air supply at night so you have to open the sliding door otherwise you will suffocate without fresh air.The lighting is also very poor in the old rooms especially if you wish to do a little bit of work during your holiday.Considering you are paying a minimum of US$250 per night this is not acceptable. We also spent a long day sightseeing only to come back to our room to find it was not serviced by Housekeeping. This is not a family resort but an upmarket resort for couples. The Management seemed to be focused more on running the casino than the hotel rooms so they must be careful to fix this otherwise they will have a problem with repeat guests.Nevertheless, we checked the Lotte Hotel The Hyatt Regency and they did not compare as good in terms of facilities and cleanliness. The bus service from the airport is cheap and efficient and you can walk around to all the major sigthseeing places at the Jung Mun resort very eaiserly. The Teddy Bear Museum is very good and the Botanical gardens and Seonimgyo Birdge are must see attractions. We took a drive to the town of Seogwipo and the restaurants are far better there than the local ones at Jungmun resort. Coming back to the gardens we were particularly impressed how they looked after the fish, chickens and ducks. We would definitely stay there again.

Well to make a long story short, we had very high expectations and none were fulfilled. We had another hotel booked but due to pool renovations we booked the Shilla instead after reading many wonderful reviews. First of all, the receptionist were very short during check in and no information was given to us. We got our room key, confirmed amount of nights and that was it. When we asked about a restaurant to have lunch we were notified that lunch wasn't an option at 3:30 pm, we had to wait for dinner to start at 6 pm. The room was okay, but bit run down, stains at carpet and a shower that was making strange noise - this was later fixed by staff but still... One complimentary bottle of water and coffee/tea. NO free toothbrush..We arrived at dinner and decided to try buffé, very overpriced for what was offered. We asked about children´s food and reply was that there would be a variety, but no children could eat same food as adults, nothing else.
The episode that made us really upset happened when we decided to swim. As mentioned we choose this hotel especially for the pool, but when we got there a lifeguard quickly stopped us and said that our daughter needed to wear life vest. We explained that she has been taking swimming classes since she was 3 months old in our country and knew how to dive and swim 2-3 meters to edge of pool, and that it wasn't recommend in our country for children to wear life vests in the pool. If a child falls in water or anything else with face down with lifevest on they still wouldn't manage to turn around, so it is more important to teach children how to manage to swim to edge of pool and hold on there. Our daughter had now at the age of 3 years learned not to wear life vest, and refused to. She does now what to do if accident happen in pool since she have been trained for this. The lifeguard spoke to colleagues and ended up saying either a life vest or get out of the pool. My daughter started crying, my husband was upset and they left. I then went to talk to staff at reception who understood our situation but needed to discuss the issue with duty manager. One of the women came back saying our request to swim without life vest was denied, and apologized. I asked to talk to duty manager myself, and he came out. I once again explained the importance of letting us swim, how far we had come just for this, and what our daughter learned from swimming classes for a long time. He just said I´m sorry and kept repeating this. When I asked for an explanation he said hotel regulations, and that if he allowed my daughter to swim everyone else also would want to do this. I said that if this was the hotel regulations this information should be on the website before booking, and he repeated saying I´m sorry. I asked how this issue could be resolved - but no reply. I suggested that we could check out, and make our way to a nearby hotel, but the reply was that the Shilla hotel would loose money if we did this. WHAT?!!! This hotel takes nearly 100 dollars for dinner, 500 dollars for staying one night in standard room, but when I suggest a solution to the issue the reply is hotel will loose money?! At that point I felt so angry, upset but worst of all here is a stranger telling me that the safety of my daughter was more important for them than it was for us! Our role as parents were being questioned as if two parents wouldn't be able to manage the safety for their child. From then on our stay just got worse. The customer service were very absent from staff members, and especially from the duty manager. As a business owner myself I would never have treated customers this way, and if a customer brings a solution like we did I would happily have thanked them for resolving the issue and accepted it, if not I would quickly have apologized and offered customer to enjoy complementary something on the house. In our case nothing, we just had to feel like the worst parents during rest of our stay. At this point I also have to add that it was raining like crazy outside so swimming in the ocean was not an option. To conclude, it was very clear from the beginning that money are the big interest at this over priced hotel, guests are not highly ranked or valued. We are now back home still feeling disappointed, and would not recommend this hotel to anyone after the treatment we were given. So if you want to spend lots and lots of money and get very little in return you have found the right place. As guests anywhere customer service is and always should be central, and you should not come home feeling like it was a waist of money staying at a hotel. To conclude, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AND DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT.

Dear MrsMell, Firstly, please accept our sincere apology for the disappointment you experienced during your recent stay at The Shilla Jeju. In regards to local and hotel policy all children under 130cms must wear a life vest within the pool, even if they already do know how to swim. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and your valuable comments will be shared with our staff members in order to improve our service. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Shilla. Warmest regards, JeongHo Lee Vice President Marketing Division

Okay, first of all, I was here for a conference, so someone else was paying. I wouldn't stay in this sort of place if I was paying myself.

That taken into consideration, the Shilla was amazing. Perfect, in fact. Large, comfortable rooms, plush public areas, grand gardens with a staircase down to the beach, massive buffet breakfast..... it was like staying in another world.

Best tip - walk down to the beach at night to see the lights and hear the cicadas.

This hotel is an ageing kindergarten; I did not enjoy my stay and will not return.
The hotel is built for families with small children and is jam-packed full of them. It's definitely not a relaxing stay.
The rooms are old, which is fine if you're worried about your children staining the carpet.
Not for couples.
5* for those looking for playdates for their children.
