The Fortaleza is situated in an old colonial house with a courtyard bar/dining area. We were very warmly welcomed by the manageress who is friendly and efficient. In order to access the upper bedrooms, one needs to negotiate a small spiral staircase so anyone with mobility or vision problems must take care. The room itself was very spacious and full...

We stayed in the Foraleza hotel for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The room is very nicely done, still retaining some original features. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with excellent tips and good local knowledge. Also the breakfast selection is delicious, if not a little small.

We stayed here 2 nights in a garden room with mixed feelings. This is a really well restored building, true to the original. Good location to explore the fort area. The breakfast was very good, probably the best we had in Sri Lanka, although not so Sri Lankan in any way. We were disappointed with the hotel staff. Although very...

Returned here after a year. My previous review was quite negative as did not have a good experience. But I have to say this was a completely different experience. Despite how busy it was the service was very attentive and good. Ambience as always is great. Food was also very good if a bit expensive.

We felt it's over hyped. Food is just average. We didn't find it flavourful. It's costly. Ambience is great. All said, you can find much better place in Galle. Make sure you sear a bit and pick a place suiting your appetite and taste.

Really impressed with the food at Fortaleza. Can defenitely recommend the pepper encrusted tuna (starter), sesame encrusted tuna salad, vegetable samosa and the prawn pesto pasta was amazing. Lovely cool restaurant in the heart of the historic Galle fort. Having stayed here previously can also recommend the accommodation - comfortable, tasteful and the room with the circular window is quite...

Captures the essence of the Galle fort with a rustic and heritage ambience. The staff very friendly and makes you feel welcome. The menu albeit limited is presented well and tastes great. Unfortunately no pork in the menu - would have definitely helped enhance the menu. Would go again. Presume dinner ambience would be even greater. Tried the fajita and...

Very good food, efficiënt staff, the tuna and fish & chips were amazing. Only slight negative is that beer is quite expensive at 550 roepies for a small can, cocktails relatively cheap. Nice classy mood without being pretentious, definitely recommend!

We stayed in Fortaleza last night and also ate there with our Sri Lankan friends. The rooms are gorgeous, as are the communal areas. Lovely artwork and furniture. Food was excellent in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and service was great. Thanks Fortaleza, we will return when next in Sri Lanka.

Lovely setting we booked a table as it gets busy. Food was delicious and well presented. Service at the start was a little slow but not enough to not recommend this restaurant. Both western & Sri Lankan dishes served.
