Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort occupies an idyllic 26-rai site directly on the banks of the Kok River, moments from Chiang Rai town and a one hour drive from the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. The resort is set at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens complete with a tranquil man-made lake and two majestic 100-year-old rain trees. Nearby attractions include Rai Mae Fah Luang, Le Méridien's chosen UnLock Art site, and Oub Kham Museum which houses a collection of objects from the ancient Lanna kingdom, Myanmar, southwest China, and Vietnam. Boat trips along the Kong River are available from the town of Chiang Khong, with stops along the way at villages of interest. Ethnic groups living in the province include Karen, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Meo, and Yao, and it is possible to arrange treks into the hill tribe villages with experienced local guides.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The concierge/bellmen were very efficient. We had a nice big corner room (and large bathroom), overlooking the lake, pool and river. The whole hotel could be updated but to be fair it was clean and well maintained and the housekeeping and turn-down service was attentive. The plug points very old fashioned and rickety and in particular, could do with an upgrade . The food at breakfast was very good with plenty of variety, great coffee and fast service. This restaurant serves Asian food for the rest of the day but we did not try it. Favola Italian restaurant was mediocre ...the food was good but not fine dining. The lasagna for example, was dry. The wilted salads were a disappointment. The salmon was spoilt by being served with what tasted like reheated frozen package spinach but the sea bass, pizza and osso buco were good. We ate there 4 nights because after long days we didn't feel like the trek to town which is a good taxi ride away. Perhaps the Asian food is better and that's our problem for not trying it. The small plates and cappuccino at Latitude were very nice. The gym was small but adequate if you hit it at the right time. The pool was big and never crowded while we were there. The terrace overlooking the river is very pretty. The service overall was a little amateur in places but very friendly. I have taken into account that this is in a pretty rural area, overall. It is undergoing rebranding as a Marriott Bonvoy so I expect there will be some changes for the better, especially for those who like the security of a chain brand. I thought hard about the rating because I know they can do better.

We were on a trip to Thailand to celebrate my 75th Birthday and our 44th wedding anniversary. We visited a numner of places, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Bangkok. We were at the Le Meridian Chiang Rai from 31 January to 3 February 2024. We had the best of service from all staff. We apoligise for not remenbering the names, but every staff member was brilliant, from the concierges to the front office, house keeping, Breakfast/Resturant Staff. All were excellent. The Breakfast was superb, wide choice for all taste. Special thanks the Chef for making special orders for us. Also please pass our thanks to I think Miss C (apoligise is I got this wrong), who is the restaurant Manager. While we had a pleasant time at the Le Meridian, my wife lost her phone there, could be at breakfast time or somewhere in the hotel. The Management of the hotel has been very helful in trying to locate the phone but so far no luck in finding it. We were booked as Mr and Mrs Gill. Can't remember my room number. We will be back. Thanks from Munjit Gill

The Meridien Hotel is located outside Chiang Rai so you need transport to get into the city. However, you are likely to use this as a base for travel rather than to visit Chiang Rai itself. The hotel is a series of inter-connected buildings on the banks of a river around a lake. It is a very attractive layout. The corridors are open so you need to be careful of insects at night. There is a very pleasant three level outdoor infinity pool. There is an Italian restaurant overlooking the river and a separate restaurant for breakfast - both of these were very good. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

This charming hotel in Chiang Rai was a highlight of our time in Thailand. This oasis of calm and beauty is like a dream - located on river banks across a local park, walking distance to several local dining options, and a short ride away from the city center and airport - pure perfection. The rooms are HUGE and very comfortable. The hotel is in the nature, so there are insects and geckos in the exterior hallways of the hotel at night, but this is to be expected and only added to the charm for us. It is pastoral and open to the elements, so just remember the luxury of this property is found in its positioning as an escape from the hustle and bustle of life. If this speaks to you, then you too will view this property as a highlight of your time in Thailand. The spa is fantastic, as is the Thai restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast was more than sufficient and had a decent selection, albeit smaller than other hotels we stayed at in Thailand. The service is world class, and we'd like to give a special thank you to Mr. Tong for all his efforts and guidance during our stay. We look forward to returning to this hotel the next time we are in Chiang Rai!

Very mediocre experience so far. We’ve been here a day and the only staff who have been decent are at the front desk. Spa was unhelpful and borderline rude, breakfast/lunch service was very poor, and we just returned from a tour to find our room uncleaned after it’s been vacant for 5 hours. I have 2 more nights and, while the property is lovely, I’m here for service expectations and a comfortable room so I can only hope they’ll drastically improve in the next day.

Lovely resort and amenities. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Good local restaurants just a walk to the right of the main entrance. As we were leaving a very rude guest yelled and manhandled a member of staff. This was so unnecessary as all Thai people go out of their way to help you and always with a smile. Totally disrespectful. Good value resort.

Le Meriden is an extremely beautiful property . It definitely is not 5 stars . After a morning full of activity we arrived at hotel at 3:30 to be told that rooms would not be ready for another hour. (Check-in is 3:00 ) On next day we returned to rooms that had not been cleaned which was problematic as we had a 4 year old who needs a nap . In preparation for visit we emailed concierge and they took 2 days for a reply . Called spa on two occasions and never got an answer . Also disappointing is concierge suggested an unethical elephant sanctuary . Spoke with General Manager twice and she was unapologetic saying they were busy. Had she shown some remorse , pretty sure I wouldn’t have sent this review.

Such a wonderful place - relaxing and tasteful ambience, excellent service, and best breakfast of our trip! Truly an extraordinary value relative to what you’d pay for a 5-star resort elsewhere. Our three kids shared one room with a rollaway bed added and it was still very spacious.
