When my husband and I first arrived at this hotel I had to quickly double check to make sure I got the price right because we couldn't believe it! This place was beautiful yet the least expensive place we had stayed in in Thailand.

The rooms are immaculate, spacious, and come with all the amenities (including flawless wifi). Ours had a balcony which was lovely to enjoy our complimentary coffee on which we could find down in the lobby.

The breakfast (included) was buffet style and out of this world delicious and with both Asian and western options. Again, we could not believe what we were paying for this place. The restaurant for dinner was disappointing for us as the service wasn't great and they forgot to bring my meal out and although I let them know, they didn't bring it out for another forty-five minutes while everyone else's dishes came out. By this point I had eaten my husband's left overs and to their credit, they took it away and didn't charge us for it. His meal was supposed to be red tilapia but was truly just deep fried batter shredded on a plate with no fish to be tasted.

The only drawback could be the location. We felt a bit isolated as a young foreign couple as most of the guests appeared to be there for a local wedding or gathering although the staff made us feel very welcome of course. A taxi ride to town was only 50 baht but the tuk tuks will charge 100 baht to return. This may not be the best place for a backpacker feel or if you are looking to meet other travelers.

Communication in English was a little tricky so it was a bit tough for us to figure out how to navigate ourselves (we rented a motorbike). My main suggestions would be to offer your guests a proper map since the one we were given was a very blurred print off from the computer and it didn't have any streets shown or street names listed around the hotel (they just drew a line into space and wrote "hotel"). We didn't realize this so one night it took us over an hour and a half to find our way back. That same night we had difficulty as well because as you come down the off street you need to turn left into the hotel's road and needless to say, their signs are only in Thai so we kept missing the turn until a local showed us. I think it would be a nice gesture to have a small English sign at the turn, even in marker!

These are small things and really just suggestions. The hotel is amazing and the best deal I have come across in three months of traveling! (I also liked how you could use booking.com to book the room without using your credit card details).

The hotel is $22 USD a night for their basic room. Hotel staff is polite and works hard to please. New property. There is still work going on to finish the hotel.
Attached restaurant has good service and adequate food.

Rooms lack sound proofing. People talking in an average tone in the next room can be heard word for word.
One night there was karoke in the restaurant which lasted until 1am. Easily heard in the room.
Each room as an electric water heater for the shower. The heater is undersized and to keep the water warm a minimum water flow must be used.
Each day the room gets a half roll of toilet paper. You have to ask for more.

3 stars. No more no less but excellent value for the money.

Very impressed with Kong Garden in all respects, from the moment a representative was waiting for us at the station.

Exceptionally clean, large, well equipped new double room with great bathroom, great view of the lake, good quality bed. Nothing felt budget about this room - good lighting, quality television, fridge, lots of drawers and storage space, large power shower etc etc

I have never enjoyed such quality within this price range.

Staff very eager to help in English and Thai,

Good food at restaurant.

Good walk to town but scooter hire was sorted out for us.

Once you have located the hotel, you are in for a treat, the proverbial oasis in a desert of concrete confusion. The facade is impressive, as indeed are most things about this establishment, including the high ceilinged reception area and the duck laden waters that surround the pier-like restaurant. The bedrooms are roomy with a good balcony and comfortable beds. Dinner in the busy restaurant was a nice experience. The management and the staff are also worthy of a mention with their ever helpful attitude.

The Kong Garden View Resort is not the easiest place to find, it is situated in a built up area, that at first impression is not the best, That being said, within the three days of my visit I was on first name terns with many of the locals, indeed shared a beer or two with a few. It is pretty essential to have a car and a smattering of Thai is also necessary. The shower room is poor, having to shower without shield over the toilet, and the breakfast I rated poor to diabolical, which is surprising after the quality of dinner. Could not even summon a cup of tea, or any fruit, which for me are breakfast dependencies. Nevertheless a very good stay, and I/we will most certainly return..........17/20

Not much real new to add to prior positive reviews. At this price, this close to the center of town, you will not find better. Start with modernly-furnished rooms, balconies, a garden resort-style setting, add-in an expansive open-air, better quality restaurant overlooking a lake (ish), plus excellent wi-fi (bandwidth). Bonus: A few ducks hanging out and rabbits running around like happy idiots in the morning.

Very quiet: No traffic, nor constantly barking dogs or roosters. But, as previously mentioned, you will need your own transportation. About 10 minutes by scooter to Night Market, for point of reference.

As others have pointed out, "Kate" (Panawan), sort of the by-default concierge / guest relations person, due to her excellent English skills, very positive demeanor and innate charm, is great. Beyond the usual (and often not real) smiles of typical hotel staff, Kate genuinely seems to be out to insure that the guests are happy. You will see this tangibly noted in other posts. In our case, we went down on a motor bike (minor), took a few bruises, that evening she showed up at room with a topical cream she picked up for us. We tried to pay, but she said: "Don't worry, very inexpensive.)

About English -- I have noted other reviewers disparaging lack of staff English language skills and will here respectfully say: Get serious. You are paying less than US$30 a night for very nice, very clean, Western-friendly accommodations and furnishings in a pleasant semi-resort-style setting, easy secure parking, onsite a decent open-air restaurant, a polite (if shy) staff, very good housekeeping services with an adequate breakfast and the evening opportunity to have reasonably-priced, higher-level Thai food overlooking a little lake and fountain... did I mention at less than $30 a night? (Average rate date of this writing.)

Rooms are adequately furnished and have a nice view of the hotel gardens in front or rice fields at the back. Free coffee in the lobby. Been here several times, make sure to ask for the upper floors so you can open the balcony. Breakfast is very Thai.

The hotel is attractive, overlooking water back and front, but too far out of town for the average tourist. If you don't have your own transport you need to call a taxi to get into town. Our room (one night) was comfortable, spacious, well equipped and quiet though we were both badly bitten by insects. Wifi worked well, shower was great. Our pad thai dinner was good, but the breakfast buffet was a huge disappointment. No western options, just bad instant coffee, rice, noodles and cold fried eggs that were tough on the bottom and raw on top! There was some white bread and a toaster, so I had toast and jam with green tea, there was nothing else. We got the impression that this is a conference / tour group hotel. Staff were friendly though.

The Hotel has very good location, nice room, good wifi. Pretty new hotel with youth staff and they all speak English very bad. Breakfast really very poor, every day was worse. They really need to improve both. In the room are very slipery floor, mostly in shower.

We recently spent one night at this hotel while visiting Chiang Rai. Lovely quiet location, super room - clean, comfortable bed with soft duvet, nice balcony and great powerful shower with lots of hot water. We had a delicious meal in the lakeside restaurant at a very reasonable price, not like hotel prices at all. Breakfast was fairly basic but sufficient and once again at the lakeside restaurant where we could see the ducks and ducklings, rabbits running around at the water's edge and huge catfish in the lake. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Only downside was that the room television had no English channels, although the restaurant was showing English movies (if you wanted to watch). Cost of the room was only 800 bt or 15 GBP - fantastic value. Forgot to mention, free shuttle service to town centre three times a day.

just finished staying the night here, everything was as everyone else has said regarding best value but to me that insinuates your sacrificing some quality for value.
In my experience and i have stayed at many different types of accommodation in Thailand as i come here twice a year (Thai wife) it is one of the best hotels i have stayed in full stop. Thats excluding the silly money hotels however, they will be better but at 600bt a night for a fantastic, spacious, modern, clean room you just cant complain about anything.
Stay here, the owners whoever they are take pride in their establishment - they deserve your custom
