This was a good Hotel from which to transit further South. My friend and I enjoyed it as it featured large bedrooms with two quite spacious double beds. it was good to stretch out here after an arduous journey. In addition, the staff were pleasant.and helpful.

I think that the Royal Diamond Hotel in Petchaburi was haunted by ghosts. We have stayed there for 2 days and we had some haunting experiences. The people said that the hotel was full, but we had no encouter with other guests. We have also heared very strange noises during the night, and one of us had the feeling that something was touching his face. I had a talk with the receptionist and i said they need Bill Murray, i hope that they will call him.

We booked "superior" and got first nr. 419 which was old, close to the highway and therefore quite loud. We complained about the room and moved to 436 with nice view to the mountain /palace and recently refurbished, we slept very well in a large, confortable bed and the room has also been cleaned everyday.
Although we had no issues with the room itself, my evaluation of Royal Diamond remains ok due to below facts
1) location: no taxis, no tuk-tuks or possibility of getting away by public transportation. We always walked to the cable car entrance of Phra Nakhon Khiri (King Palace) nearby the Sun Hotel, around 600 m away from our hotel or about 7-10 min walk depending on the heat. Not that far, however we think that Sun hotel is a better choice as far as the localization is concerned.
2) poor English : staff was friendly but with very limited english language skills, although they have mainly business customers staying there...
3) breakfast: consists of some fruits (pineapple, waterlemon), toast with butter or jam and horrible coffee in an unpleasant business lobby / conference room. We decided to have a decent breakfast somewhere else.

A few recommendations to travellers planing trip to Phetchaburi: you can reach the city by either train departing from BKK central station (Hualamphong) or bus from South bus station Sai Tai Mai. We tried both and do recommend rather going by bus since 1) more confortable and 2) faster (by bus max 2 hours, by train between 3-4 hours).

Phetchaburi can be visited in only one day an there is no reason for spending more than 1 or 2 days here: check of course the old Phra Nakhon Khiri palace with its wonderful garden in the mountain and the impressive Khao Luang and Khao Bandai it caves surrounded by wild monkeys. We loved the caves, something really unique giving you a little "indiana jones" adventurous feeling :-) which was part of holywoods movies “dangeraous Bangkok” with Nikolas Cache. Please note that Phetchaburi is NOT touristic at all, you have to organize everything by yourself (no touristic information and only a few tuk tuks or taxis in a few selected spots in the city). As for the caves, we do recommend to negotiate a fix price with the tuk tuk driver for visiting boht caves at once, we paid 300 bath and he waited for us the whole time - there is no other option getting there anyway. If you have the chance to see the night market on monday with incredible variaty on local food and weird ones (we saw some beetles and bugs...) or buy extremely cheap clothes. Due to lack of tourism, everything is extremely cheap, we've been already 3 times in Thailand and Phetchaburi was one of the most economic ones.

Situated next to a 24 hours a day busy highway would ruin the ambience if it were not for the terrible pub-singer type karaoke bar that tends to strike up at about midnight til 3 am. Brilliant when you need to rest I always feel. The food was ok nothing terrible just dull. The real issue is security from your room. We stayed in room 415 and discovered after unpacking at the next place that we visited that personal items had been taken from our luggage whilst left in the room. Must have happened while we were at breakfast and having the contents of our mini-bar " checked ". Puts a dampener on things when you cant trust the staff. So if you see someone walking around in a Berghaus kagoule plz feel free to kick him hard from me ta v much.

The hotel is reasonably priced, but once again, it is an old established hotel in a small non-tourist town.

The room itself is OK, clean and has the basic amenities. The bed quality is acceptable, but it is showing it's age. The restroom is not very nice. I think you can certainly find a better boutique or hostel type hotel, comparably priced, or even less, and may feel a bit more personal.

In conclusion, nothing special, but you won't have a bad experience.

In January I spent one night at the Royal Diamond Hotel and I had a very very bad experience:The staff at the reception was surely the worst I have ever met. They were unable to do anything for you, from calling a taxi or a tuck tuck to telling you any information about the train timetable. Moreover they spoke very little English.,But worst of all ,we were three adult people, and ,of course, we asked for a triple room .They told us it was available and we had to pay in advance. As the hotel seemd good we paied and after we went to the room.with surprise we noticed that it was a double one and when we called the receptionis ,he told a us that as the bed were of the french size so they considered the room for three people:If we would like to have another bed, they could only put a matress on the floor paying also an extra charge for it.The room was shabby, the blankets were worn out and thorn, the moquette was stained and in the bathroom the shower and the taps were rusty,.Furthermore there wasnt hot water.
The breakfast was inconsistent and very poor.

I stayed here with my familie and friends. We just needed a room for sleeping, as we were out and about for most of the day. However we did not get a lot of sleep at this hotel.

It has an open air bar playing music until late in the evening, however this is not really a problem as the highway located right next to the hotel drowns the noise.

Breakfast was a fun experience as there were lots of different asian food to try along with toast and fruit.

The staff was nice and did their best to be helpful, however they were not very good at English.

Our corner room with private bathroom was huge and clean, the min-fridge loaded with cheap drinks and our mountain view was pretty. The room showed its age in the state of the furniture and the bathroom and there were no reading lights. The included breakfast was okay for those eating Thai food and the coffee was good, but there was only tasteless white bread; the parking was free, but the grills over the sewers had dangerous spaces in between.

This is a traveller's hotel, not sure anyone stays more than one night on their way north or south. This said, it is well located, clean, cheap, has good evening food, lousy breakfast, live music, hard beds,... the way Thai hotels were 30 years ago before the big chains and boutique concepts happened. Enjoyable
