Beautifull place, we we're lucky we could stay there without reservation but the owner was very rude when we asked for a discount (because we are young travelers). We didn't feel very comfortable after that moment, the whole evening we had to make up 'the mistake', he got angry several times. The owner is a very intelligent person, but he didn't seem very happy at that moment.

Our visit here was ruined by the rudeness of the owner who got offended when my wife, who has early onset dementia, could not remember the exact price agreed by email several weeks previously (and without WiFi in our accommodation it was difficult to keep on top of everything). We left without staying the final night we had paid for. Accommodation is lovely, location is great, this may have been a one off but we would never go back.

Response from Pauline S, Owner at Owlsland
Responded 12 Aug 2019
I have just read your review, and am dreadfully sorry your holiday ended this way. I was unfortunately not myself there at the time, but there is no excuse for rudeness, so I apologise unreservedly if you felt my husband was rude to you. However, I did write the emails to you when the booking was made, and clearly quoted our rates, which were then agreed. I also included in the email a link to the page on our website with our prices, which are there stated clearly as well. On top of this, there is a printed price list in every room, again with the rates clearly stated. I am very sad for you if your wife has early onset dementia, which is a terrible thing and must be very difficult for both of you, but we had no way of knowing this when making the booking, there being no signs in any of the emails. I don't entirely understand why, if you were unsure prior to leaving, you didn't check your emails online - though you say our guesthouse has no wi-fi, I'm sorry, that's simply not so. Though it doesn't reach to the old farmhouse bedrooms, it is available free and 24 hrs a day in the dining room, lounge and both terraces, and I understand that you did use it during your stay. I'd say again that there is no excuse for rudeness, but it is perhaps understandable that a person running a guesthouse is deeply disappointed when he puts in a lot of effort to help guests, ensures everything is shipshape and in order for their comfort, and offers all sorts of help and information above and beyond what's expected, only to find that to him they appear to be trying to avoid at the end of their stay paying what they've agreed and what is clearly advertised. Because I am always very careful to ensure people clearly understand prior to staying what our rates are, and make sure these are also in writing in each room, this is not something which has happened before, and I will certainly be taking all possible steps to ensure it will not recur.

Owsland was just what we were looking for - great scenery, comfortable accommodation, and plentiful food. Pauline & Errol were a wealth of information about the local area and Turkey, and we enjoyed wandering around the village and our regular visits to the local tea house. Our 20-month-old daughter loved it. We took day trips in the surrounding area, including walks on the Lycian Way and visits to archaeological sites. Highly recommended!

Hiking Lycian way we stayed at Owlsland. Not easy to find but it might depend on ourselves. Errol is very enthousiastic and he serves a great meal an made the best herb tea out of his own beautifull garden. Sleepingaccommodation also very good. Really you cant expect more iff you stay in this mountainvillage. Maximum score 5 but this is honestely one too short.

We had booked a night at owlsland as part of our walking holiday on the Lycian Way. And after a long uphill climb from Kalkan we arrived on the lush plateau at Berzigan. Pauline, Erol and the many cats and dogs gave us a lovely welcome. Our accommodation was beautiful in a renovated family farmhouse with spacious rooms full of charm and character. We particularly loved the sitting platform with comfortable cushions and plenty of space to lounge and rest our aching feet, we instantly changed our itinery and booked another night. The hosting was exemplary with bountiful information supplied about the local area and lively discussions about Turkish politics. Pauline and Erol booked ahead our next two nights on the trail giving us further rural adventues. The food was delicious and plentiful, the landscape stunning in Spring. We're definitely coming back! Thank you so much! James, Sophie and Sarah

Having made a very late decision to take a week's solo holiday I contacted Pauline and Erol, the owners of the fantastic Owlsland, and within three days was out there in Bezirgan, a village about 25 minutes inland from the south west Turkey resort of Kalkan and not much more than an easy two hours from Dalaman airport. Their B&B set-up is marvellous. Tucked away on the edge of the small village of Bezirgan, about 800 metres up in a flat valley with mountains behind, you are very much in rural Turkey. But that is the joy of the place - you are entirely away from it all. The accommodation is in a separate house away from where Erol and Pauline live, where you have breakfast and dinner. The room was wonderfully comfortable, with a great outside area in which to laze and read books, your own private garden, and with a backdrop of mountains right behind. Owlsland is an ideal place to stay if you are looking to get away from it, if you are a walker (you can walk straight from the house up onto the Lycean Way and onto some spectacular trails which lead up onto plateaux with great views in all directions), if you are a birdwatcher (I went in a part of the year when bird life was reasonably quiet with almost all of the summer migrants gone but the house itself, as the website shows, attracts a fantastic array of birds and even in October I saw many Rock Nuthatch - one nesting right by the room - as well as Syrian Woodpecker, Little Owl, Long-legged Buzzard and Red-Backed and Isabelline Shrike - all within walking distance or on the property itself - and even rarer birds like the Kruper's Nuthatch not far away by car) or if you want to base yourself to explore this part of Turkey without staying in the resorts of Kalkan and Kas. The coast has plenty to offer as does driving inland and exploring further into the mountains. Pauline and Erol look after you phenomenally well. As the pics and other reviews show, breakfast is wonderful - plentiful fresh coffee, locally sourced yoghurt, bread, jams, eggs - all taken in the morning sun outside the main house. And on four nights out of the seven that I stayed there, I also had dinner - Erol rustling up a number of delicious dinners, varied and interesting, lots of Turkish dishes that I had not had before, always with interesting side salads and the like. Pauline is a mine of interesting information - both to help plan your day, but also to understand a bit more about life in Turkey too. Fascinating stuff. I should say that it is remarkable value too - about £35 a night B&B with dinner only another £12-15 if you require it. I cannot recommend a stay at Owlsland highly enough - if you are the sort of person who enjoys nature, scenery and getting off the beaten track and exploring a beautiful part of Turkey, then go.

A family house that belonged to the family grandfather in an idyllic valley settled by the Romans and inhabited by the Lycians. Run by an ecologically aware couple who are animal involved in local animal rescue not to mention they built there 'new house' themselves and restored the one you will stay in. Its rustic and quaint you walk across to the main house terrace for meals and wifi. Full and half board is available as well as B & B. The welcome is genuine and the food out of this world. Absolutely some of the best food I had in Turkey - ask to sample some of the goat curd made by local shepherds -Im still dreaming about it.. Not surprising that our host used to do cooking classes as part of his astounding career. He's also happy to share his knowledge. There is only one coffee shop (that only sells coffee, tea and coke) under a tree and a small general store both within a kilometre. So best to bring snacks you need (alcohol is available and reasonably priced) This village was home to a thriving farming population but as is so often the case the younger generation, like our host, leave to find employment elsewhere. Apparently the tradition is becoming that those that can return, do and hopefully like Owlsland will breathe renewed life into this idyllic spot without destroying its tranquility. It is the quiet that makes this spot so, bring a book and curl up listening to goats sheep and the odd donkey in one of the myriad of nooks and crannies created just for this purpose. Alternatively, go for a walk its astoundingly beautiful. Its expensive but worth scrimping to do this side trip I would make it one of my must return to places in Turkey.

Owlsland is all that it says on it’s website, a delightful step back into times long gone by in modern Europe, set in a secluded, very simple farming community with sheep and goats grazing all around and a menagerie of friendly dogs and cats We had a very attractive, comfortable double bedded room in an old farm building 100M from the main house, with constant hot water and other facilities. We enjoyed Errol’s home cooking in the evenings whilst Pauline provided a very warm welcome and delicious breakfasts, and was more than ready to answer any questions and give information and advice about local matters. For the less active a stroll in to the village, followed by a circuit, stopping for an ice cream at one of the two simple shops and later an omelette at the café opposite the mosque, is a 7km totally flat walk.

Owlsland B and B is a 150-year-old farmhouse nestled in a rich and verdant valley in the tiny Turkish rural village of Bezirgan. As well as charming farm animals and comfort, it boasts fantastic food from owner chef Erol and the wit of his Scottish wife Pauline. We only visited Kalkan (20 minutes away) once to use an ATM. Instead we happily explored the quaint Bezirgan village of small grain farms and orchards where the chooks roam free, forded the wild stream up Saklikeant Gorge where we survived the waitress/cook/whatever with Turkey’s dirtiest hands (noticed way too late) and explored fascinating ruins at Xanthos and Patara. All within an easy drive of Owlsland. A nearby village has several trout farm/restaurants for a well priced lunch or dinner. When booking through email Pauline was quick to respond and provide the necessary information. Later when the Turkish government made visa changes, she made sure I knew about them. I didn’t . Dinner was simply more delicious the longer we stayed. Or so it seemed. At first I was surprised by communal breakfast and dinner tables but I quickly grew to enjoy the catch ups. Breakfasts on the front terrace in the stunning cottage garden was awesome. There are 3 rooms in a well restored farmhouse. We had the upstairs room which was spacious and comfortable. I wish we’d had more than our three nights there.

We have travelled a lot and this is certainly one of the most memorable and hospitable places in all our travels. Pauline and Errol the most wonderful hosts and the food simply scrumptious. The house has been lovingly restored, you feel like you are in another time. The verandah in the moonlight a dream.
