Detailed Reviews
Owsland was just what we were looking for - great scenery, comfortable accommodation, and plentiful food. Pauline & Errol were a wealth of information about the local area and Turkey, and we enjoyed wandering around the village and our regular visits to the local tea house. Our 20-month-old daughter loved it. We took day trips in the surrounding area, including walks on the Lycian Way and visits to archaeological sites. Highly recommended!

Hiking Lycian way we stayed at Owlsland. Not easy to find but it might depend on ourselves. Errol is very enthousiastic and he serves a great meal an made the best herb tea out of his own beautifull garden. Sleepingaccommodation also very good. Really you cant expect more iff you stay in this mountainvillage. Maximum score 5 but this is honestely one too short.

Having made a very late decision to take a week's solo holiday I contacted Pauline and Erol, the owners of the fantastic Owlsland, and within three days was out there in Bezirgan, a village about 25 minutes inland from the south west Turkey resort of Kalkan and not much more than an easy two hours from Dalaman airport.
Their B&B set-up is marvellous. Tucked away on the edge of the small village of Bezirgan, about 800 metres up in a flat valley with mountains behind, you are very much in rural Turkey. But that is the joy of the place - you are entirely away from it all. The accommodation is in a separate house away from where Erol and Pauline live, where you have breakfast and dinner. The room was wonderfully comfortable, with a great outside area in which to laze and read books, your own private garden, and with a backdrop of mountains right behind.
Owlsland is an ideal place to stay if you are looking to get away from it, if you are a walker (you can walk straight from the house up onto the Lycean Way and onto some spectacular trails which lead up onto plateaux with great views in all directions), if you are a birdwatcher (I went in a part of the year when bird life was reasonably quiet with almost all of the summer migrants gone but the house itself, as the website shows, attracts a fantastic array of birds and even in October I saw many Rock Nuthatch - one nesting right by the room - as well as Syrian Woodpecker, Little Owl, Long-legged Buzzard and Red-Backed and Isabelline Shrike - all within walking distance or on the property itself - and even rarer birds like the Kruper's Nuthatch not far away by car) or if you want to base yourself to explore this part of Turkey without staying in the resorts of Kalkan and Kas. The coast has plenty to offer as does driving inland and exploring further into the mountains.
Pauline and Erol look after you phenomenally well. As the pics and other reviews show, breakfast is wonderful - plentiful fresh coffee, locally sourced yoghurt, bread, jams, eggs - all taken in the morning sun outside the main house. And on four nights out of the seven that I stayed there, I also had dinner - Erol rustling up a number of delicious dinners, varied and interesting, lots of Turkish dishes that I had not had before, always with interesting side salads and the like. Pauline is a mine of interesting information - both to help plan your day, but also to understand a bit more about life in Turkey too. Fascinating stuff.
I should say that it is remarkable value too - about £35 a night B&B with dinner only another £12-15 if you require it.
I cannot recommend a stay at Owlsland highly enough - if you are the sort of person who enjoys nature, scenery and getting off the beaten track and exploring a beautiful part of Turkey, then go.

Owlsland B and B is a 150-year-old farmhouse nestled in a rich and verdant valley in the tiny Turkish rural village of Bezirgan. As well as charming farm animals and comfort, it boasts fantastic food from owner chef Erol and the wit of his Scottish wife Pauline.
We only visited Kalkan (20 minutes away) once to use an ATM. Instead we happily explored the quaint Bezirgan village of small grain farms and orchards where the chooks roam free, forded the wild stream up Saklikeant Gorge where we survived the waitress/cook/whatever with Turkey’s dirtiest hands (noticed way too late) and explored fascinating ruins at Xanthos and Patara. All within an easy drive of Owlsland. A nearby village has several trout farm/restaurants for a well priced lunch or dinner.
When booking through email Pauline was quick to respond and provide the necessary information. Later when the Turkish government made visa changes, she made sure I knew about them. I didn’t .
Dinner was simply more delicious the longer we stayed. Or so it seemed. At first I was surprised by communal breakfast and dinner tables but I quickly grew to enjoy the catch ups. Breakfasts on the front terrace in the stunning cottage garden was awesome.
There are 3 rooms in a well restored farmhouse. We had the upstairs room which was spacious and comfortable. I wish we’d had more than our three nights there.

Stopped here for garden lunch while hiking Lycian Way; Turkish chef and his lovely English wife made a perfect meal in idyllic setting. Couldn't stay in pension but if ever I am back, will do so...it is unique and charming. Don't miss if you are in area.

We (a family of 4) enjoyed a marvellous 3-night stay at Owlsland in August.
Our accommodation was spotless, quiet and comfortable.
The food was particularly delicious. We explored the beautiful scenery surrounding Owlsland and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay in the area (G&Ts under the stars were welcomed after a day's sightseeing). The children refused to eat out in the evenings (!) as they loved Erol's food (and the animal visitors) so much.
The temperature dips in the mountains at night, which we were very pleased about, making a night's sleep far more bearable than by the sea in August.
Simply wonderful and we shall definitely return.

We stayed at Owlsland for three nights in late September 2011. This small and delightful B&B is a wonderful spot to either relax, use as a base for touring in the area or getting away from the heat of the coast. While there, you must take an extended stroll through the two sections of the village to see how Turkey used to be. This place is truly an antidote to the package tourism offerings on the coast. Visitors wishing their pubs and fish and chips should stay away and leave this place for travelers who are looking for a unique experience in a comfortable setting. The rooms are in a re-purposed farm house that belonged to Erol's grandparents and his elderly parents still live just behind the house. Erol and Pauline provide delicious meals in their own home steps away from the rooms - we had both breakfast and dinner there for all three days of our stay. We met two different couples around the communal dinner table set in Pauline and Erol's lovely kitchen as the evenings were too cool to sit outside. The room itself was very spacious and decorated in a simple rural style (we had the large upper room in the house) and I especially enjoyed the lounge area outside the room for a peaceful afternoon read and nap. About 5km drive away is a village that has several fish restaurants - we visited for lunch one day and had fresh trout, excellent fried potatoes and a lovely salad for a very reasonable price. The view from these restaurants is stunning as the village is on the side of a mountain. We also drove to several ruins and one of the best beaches in the southern coast next to an interesting ruin (Panterra??) is 20 minutes away. This B&B and Hoyan Wedre (reviewed separately) were the highlights of our trip in southern Turkey. Pauline is a font of information on gardening for those interested and they both take enormous and much deserved pride in the quality of food they provide their guests. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I spent six nights in this B&B, and considered ourselves privileged to stay at this farmstead run by Pauline and Erol, Scot and Turk. The valley is Shangri-la, cooler than the easily accessible Mediterranean coast, which itself is beautiful, fun, and archeologically fascinating. Pauline is knowledgeable and generous with help of any kind, and Erol is an excellent chef for optional dinners. We found living in Bezirgan to be magical, relaxing, beautiful and secure. Staying at Owlsland acquainted us with sides of Turkish life we loved and would otherwise have missed. We would have loved more time in this beautifully and simply run farmstead, where beauty and natural rhythms dissolve and supplant the hustle and bustle of tourist travel.

We arrived after a wonderful drive on the mountain road from Antalya to a warm welcome by Erol who had prepared a super supper. The place really is an experience, we spent many hours walking around the village and taking in the wonderful unspoilt lifestyle. We encountered many tortoises, goats, sheep, birds, cows, donkeys, ponies, chicks, chickens, cockerels, cats, dogs and Uncle Tom Cobley… among our rambles in the local neighbourhood and quiet honestly it was a real pleasure.
Our hosts Pauline and Erol put on a first class service with delicious food, beautiful surroundings and comfy rooms. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed, we loved it and would happily go again - just to get away from it all, be terribly spoilt and get back to nature.

At the end of our one-week long trek we arrived in Bezirgan, not knowing what to expect. What a pleasant surprise Owlsland was, an absolute gem in the countryside. Pauline and Erol are wonderful hosts. Our bedroom, a converted stable, is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The dinner that evening was brilliant. Also the breakfast on the terrace the following morning was excellent. We highly recommend this place to anybody who would like to stay in a very special place in rural Turkey. Walking around the valley is a must.
