My family and I stayed here for 3 nights in March to visit Ephesus and check out Izmir. I found Mövenpick on Trip Advisor. While I wanted to stay at Swissotel it was much more than I was willing to pay, especially since we were planning on spending most of our time out

Have stayed only one night - Friday night - and everything went out just fine. Reservation and room assignment were handled speedly with a spacious room. Hotel location is privileged. Near the ocean side avenue, which is great for a walk and the "kordon" which is by the sea

We were upgraded from a junior suite to the more than 900 sq ft king suite on the top floor. It had 1.5 bathrooms, a walk in closet, huge dining table, library area, full living room, and bedroom with 4 poster king bed - all with a fabulous view over the Bay of Izmir! We felt

We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel, cost was a bit more than 60 lira 'cause the driver used the highway (shorter in time, longer in km), it was bayram and heavy traffic he said, but at least he asked what we prefer (no English though or very basic English if you are lucky). On the way back to the airport 3 days later we decided to insist on the regular way (no English again, but I said "yavas yavas"=slow and he got it), it was ~50 lira and no more than 5' extra time, we also had the chance to admire Kemal Ataturk's rock sculpture attraction (not seen from the highway). The HAVAS SHUTTLE BUS stops at the Swissotel Grand Efes (next to Moevenpick) and you can walk a few meters if you don't have heavy luggage. It takes more time than the taxi opf course. There are plenty of taxis outside the hotel, they call and they come in front to pick you up, super easy!

The hotel should be able to book you on a group tour to Ephesus, I am sure there are many, ask the hotel. Pamukkale is much father away, but it could still be done in one day, and there are probably group tours there as well, since Izmir is such a major city. I saw some 2 or 3 day tours on-line that include both sites. You will want to spend a full day in each place so don't try to combine them into one day! Public transportation is probably do-able but very time-consuming. We rented a car and hired English speaking driver/guides for our two week trip through Travel Atelier, a Turkish travel agency (I found them on-line and they get good reviews on Trip Advisor). It was excellent, but very pricy. Car rental was 50 euros a day plus the most expensive gas in the world (don't remember the per liter price). The driver was 220 euros per day. One guide was fantastic, the other so-so. We did not want to drive in the big cities (Istanbul, Izmir) but driving was comfortable in the countryside. Good luck with your trip.
