Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I did not like this hotel............Wifi did not work, TV did not work,,,no safe in the room. The hotel is beat up,,,its old ,,,do not go by the pictures,,,,,on the main street with noise, breakfast is limited, nothing hot. small rooms,,some things in the room were broken, shower was poor..,,what else I can say,,,,spend a bit more and get a better hotel...the only good things about the hotel,,,,,,,,,it has a POOL, and you can walk to most sites,,,,it is NOT in the colonial section ( which I would recomend) I would not stay here again............... next time I will look at all reviews

I stayed at the Royal for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it... About a 10 minutes walk from the ferry terminal or a quick taxi ride and right in the middle of town. Close to all amenities, shops, restaurants and a 5 minutes stroll down to La Rambla and River del la Plata. I was in a room on the 6th floor and can be accessed by stairs or the elevator. The room was larger than expected, plenty of storage and a comfortable bed with plenty of bedding. Secure, well working air-conditioning and a bar fridge. The bathroom was a good size with a good shower, no bathtub and plenty of towels. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious but popular, so get in early for it and the restaurant is located on the ground floor. 24 hour access to the hotel and staff are available, friendly and very helpful. There's a pool with lounge chairs and is also popular! Street parking for cars Would definitely recommend it!

My friend booked the hotel and I was quite worried as reviews on the beds and pillows were not good. So I prepared myself for a pretty awful night’s sleep. However this was not the case. The hotel offers a very clean and friendly environment. The rooms are of a good size and very neat. The breakfast is an ‘American style’ but with some extras. No cooked options. The staff are lovely and very accommodating 😊 it has a very practical location. Only 6 blocks away from the port and 5 from the main tourist area. I would recommend it and would certainly stay there again. Overall, a solid 3* hotel in an excellent location, which offers a clean, comfortable and friendly environment.

I've been with my husband just for a night and the attention and the internet connection were good, but what we liked the most was the breakfast. It was clean and there is not much more to say due to our short stay.

We initially thought staying for a week but later on decided to go to Buenos Aires, management was very gentle to let us have that flexibility without charging us more. The room was very neat, cozy bed, plenty of space to put away our belongings. Breakfast was nice. There is a supermarket right next to the hotel which is very convenient. I would stay again next time I visit Colonia!

I am a chef, so I work in hotels 6/7 days a week for over a decade. And this was the first time I entered a hotel after I made a reservation and then left again in the middle of the night, to find another place. I would say the photos on their website are about 20 years old. Everything is beyond old, I can't imagine it has seen a renovation in those 20 years either. Stained bedsheets, spiders in the bidet, no electric sockets in the room, except for the 1 that is used by the light. No wifi (2019). I do speak Spanish, so it's not the biggest drawback, but no-one at the reception speaks a word of English. When I complained about my room, I was offered a different room, which was still dirty and pretty much in the same condition of the room that I just refused to spend a night in. Many many gorgeous hotels in Colonia, I would suggest avoiding this place at all cost. Oh, and before I forget, I booked the hotel for 2000ARS, when I got there they tried to charge me 2600ARS, not the end of the world, but quite unacceptable.

Rooms are boxy and smell a bit weird. No fridges. Clean though. Great pool area (rare in colonia). Excellent breakfast buffet. Staff were nice and competent. Great little communal terrace looking out onto the street - it felt like Paris (kind of...)

The front desk staff are excellent. The breakfast is superb! The bike rentals also, which is great to get around and explore. The pool area is clean and well-maintained. The hotel is in an excellent location to get to the Buquebus/ferry to Argentina, near the plaza, near shopping, the bus terminal and the historic colonial town. I highly recommend this hotel!

The rooms smelt like sewage. When I got out of the shower I felt itchy. Dark and dingy. Breakfast was so stingy. The microscopic pieces of ham and cheese were pathetic and orange juice was cordial. Staff did not speak a word of English and had no idea of currency conversion

The room was small and had little room for suitcases. It was clean, but we only stayed one night. It met our needs, as its location on General Flores is right at the heart of old Colonia. The breakfast was pretty good. The staff was helpful, but they seemed to have to do a lot of computer entry and printing conniptions for check-in and check-out. The price was very good. This is a basic sleeping and going out hotel, not one to lounge around in.
