We stayed at Tabonina for 4 nights in mid December 2019. This is a lovely place to stay in a quiet location in Livingstone. The rooms surround a pool and the property is surrounded by mango trees which provide copious amounts of mangoes! The room (ours had a double and a single bed) was clean and air conditioned and we enjoyed the gazebo equipped with a pool table and cool drinks each night. It is walkable to any of the restaurants in the area, but we were so tired by the end of the day, that we ordered in each night, which the staff can help with. The breakfast of fresh mango juice, fruit, cereal, toast and tea and coffee was great and there were bottles of water available to buy which we really needed in the heat. Laurent and his team were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. They were able to arrange for a taxi when we needed it and can assist with booking any tours in the Livingstone area. Laurent responds quickly to emails and arranged a couple of excursions for us before we arrived. I would highly recommend the Rhino Walk, Simoonga Village Tour and a day trip to Chobe National Park. These were three tours were definite highlights of our 4 weeks away. Thank you to Laurent and your team, especially Lance (Careful climbing those mango trees!), Bridget, Given and Karen, for your hospitality! We enjoyed our time with you.

Tabonina is a beautiful little lodge which has everything you need whether you are travelling for business or pleasure. It is close to town in a nice neighbourhood. The rooms are clean and comfortable, staff are fantastic and the owners are hands on. It is very affordable and excellent value for money. I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending it!
Ps: might be worth booking directly for slightly discounted rates compared to online offer

Tabonina’s guest house has been our HQ on our way to and back a trip in Zambia & Bostwana. It’s a comfortable place to rest, have a swim, plan your trip and benefit from Laurent’s advice. He’s an excellent host, always ready to give help or advice. Thanks to him we’ve been able to arrange all the little but important things - transportation within Livingstone, booking a restaurant for a large group, etc.
I strongly recommend the place.

We enjoyed our stay at the guesthouse. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. They were helpful organizing tours or taxis and whatever you needed. I didn’t love the rooms and the location is slightly removed from restaurants etc. It is a nice place and is as advertised but just not quite five stars. Also, why does no one ever have change ?

Many thanks for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Tabonina Guesthouse. That’s right, we are not in the center of the center, while still very central in view of Livingstone configuration. In order to get to the restaurants, one can either walk (25-30mn) and get a taxi back (about $3), or order a taxi (which we can do) if one does not wish to walk. It would have been helpful to know why you did not like the rooms. But what do you mean by “one never has change”? We always give the correct change to our guests when they pay for their stay or the extras they may have ordered. I am not sure I understand your remark there.

As the price is so good we were not expecting much, but what we got was so much more than we had thought. Firstly, it is very pretty, white houses surrounding a nice and clean pool. Sunbeds and a large kitchen which you can use. Our room was spacious with a bathtub and decorated in African style. We also had a working fridge and very good aircon which is not a given in Africa. The staff are lovely and the owner, Laurent, is an absolute delight. We will be coming back here as everything fits. The location is also suberb - close to Maramba market, the town and other amenities.

The staff is wonderful - so kind and attentive, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, and you have access to everything. The property is simple and cozy. The breakfast was light and refreshing and the pool was wonderful!

I really have mixed feelings about this place so I will just list pros and cons.
Pros:
- great value for money
- spacious rooms (equipped with mosquito nets, AC, TV (very poor selection of channels so it's useless)
- kind staff (Belinda was really nice, ordered food for us and helped book activities)

Cons:
- location (near the mosque, prepare to be woken up around 5 a.m. each morning and also near the railway tracks so you'll hear the train)
- very poor breakfast (this was the worst food we had on the whole trip... very small glass of juice, almost a shot glass, a bowl of cereal with cold milk, 2 slices of toast per person and a bit of butter and jam (not enough butter or jam for 4 slices of toast which we got as a couple). If you want eggs you have to pay around $1 per egg which is really ridiculous.

The guesthouse really looks nice but for me the noise coming from the mosque and train was a really big issue. Days at Victoria Falls are usually filled with activities and you want to start a day with a good breakfast but you surely won't get anything like that at Tabonina.
On the other hand the price was really good, 2 nights here cost us less than one night at Vic Falls (Zimbabwe), the room was nice and Belinda was really friendly and helpful.
Wifi was good when it was working but it kept going on and off so I can't really say if it's a pro or a con :)

Thank you for taking the time to post you review. Before I address your grievances, let me say that we are very happy that you find us of great value and that you appreciated our rooms and our service. I’ll make sure to pass on your praise to our staff. As for the cons, I find some of them contradictory. A budget guesthouse like ours cannot offer the same service as a more expensive establishment. Our continental breakfast is complimentary and the great majority of our guests find it satisfactory. I object to your description for the following reasons: we don’t limit the amount of bread, jam or butter, nor hot milk if required. If you had asked for more of the above, our staff would have gladly obliged (as mentioned by some reviewers not long ago). I don’t see how an egg cooked to a guest’s liking at Zmw5 ($0.8) can be depicted as ridiculously overpriced and your description of our fruit juice served in ‘almost a shot glass’ is preposterous. In season and as long as possible we serve fresh mango juice at breakfast, something even the expensive lodges in Livingstone don’t do. The railway runs in the middle of Livingstone, and can be heard from almost everywhere within town. We have no control over this, nor obviously do we control the mosque. As for the free Wifi that we provide, I am pleased that you give me the opportunity to explain that we are not the Internet provider. Like all lodges, hotels and guesthouses, the service is entirely dependent on such companies. True, if they fail us, we fail you, but the inconvenience also affects us as we need this service to run Tabonina effectively.

Great price. Helpful staff. Clean and simple. Hot shower. Laurent took us back and forth from the airport which was very nice. I just wished he had real coffee for breakfast. We had to go to another lodge and order coffee. Else it was great.

Dear Mandy, we don’t have shuttle per se. If available I sometimes pick guests from the airport ($10). Otherwise, we can organize one of our regular taxis to do that, same fare. Kind regards, Laurent

The above answer is correct in every detail! Ocean Basket is OK but there are far more interesting places to eat fish. The Indian Restaurant, Golden Leaf is one of the best Indian's we ever had outside of South London!
