Waking up to the sound of a waterfall, birds chirping, a beautiful garden, good breakfast, good hospitality was just awesome. White Horse made us change our perspective of the kind of accommodation we usually like because we travel in numbers and we do not fancy hotels or inns but rather a whole lodge to ourselves kind of set up. The manager himself even came to check if we were comfortable and had everything we needed and a nice green salad on the house and my son still talks about this best salad ever. Thank you Mr Frank and team

Amazing hospitality with a hands on owner. We spent a night in the cottage suite with friends relaxing and recovering after running SkyRun Zim. The Zambezis were flowing and we were treated to an amazing T-bone steak dinner and a scrumptious breakfast. It was great to relax in the beautiful gardens and by the crystal clear pool. They even cleaned our dusty car for us without being asked. Top class service all round! We will be back!

The White Horse has always been a beautiful place to stay but had got a bit tired in recent years, however, there has clearly been some new energy and investment put in. Our rooms had been recently refurbished - new paint, tiles, with comfortable beds and linen. Everything was immaculate. Staff were courteous and helpful and food in the dining room was execllent. So far the refurbishment has been sympathetic and the White Horse retains the best of its old school charm. The gardens are stunning and we had beautiful walks along the stream and surrounding hills.

I enjoyed my stay in the serene environments of Vumba at the White Horse Inn. The staff, ably led by Mr Mubvumbi were very polite and courteous. The room was spanking clean and the food is well prepared. I enjoyed the fish. Though I do not drink, noticed that they have a wide variety of wines for each meal. The garden is well kept, and enjoyed my evening strolls. The wifi is fast and reliable.

A family oriented hotel, cozy and kids friendly. The views are so amazing, overlooking the ever green mountains. The garden is beautifully manicured, with lots of flowers. Oh! And kudos to the friendly and professional staff, I loved their service. Their food is well prepared and delicious too.

There is need to revamp the bathrooms.

A very elegant hangover from yesteryear. The property was immaculately maintained with beautiful wooden features, well cared for. Very pleasant helpful staff in reception and restaurant. Lots of very nice walks in the gardens around. Food - we had both supper and breakfast. Reasonably priced, but nothing outstanding, but that's not why you go. Will be back again next year.

Nestled in a fold in the Vumba Mountains, which provide a backdrop to the small picturesque Zimbabwean City of Mutare, and amongst old lichen encrusted trees and shrubs in a rain-forest like setting, is the White Horse Inn. I last visited this tiny Inn in the early '80's over 30 years ago, and it is still the same ! :) Indeed, David Graham, the owner/manager has been there for 33 years and some of his staff have been there almost as long. Benjamin, the Head Waiter, has been there 28 years. This contributes to the sense of unchanging continuity, which these days in a modern hurly burly world is very refreshing and comforting ! Certainly, Comfort is a keynote of this magical little Inn, which is impeccably kept, and the furnishings and general decor and atmosphere cosset you and provides you with a 'home from home' feeling. The welcome and service provided by David, Benjamin and Frank, is old fashioned and extremely personal, without ever feeling intrusive. David is the epitome of a courteous elderly English Gentleman, complete with Tweed Jacket and walking stick and a quiet sense of humour :) You feel as if you have been transported back to the Colonial '50's the instant you walk in the door, and the various pictures and photographs which adorn the walls, plus the old signs and nick nacks, complete the picture ! The small Lounge and Bar are cosy and with log fires in the Winter months, you are trapped and coccooned and find it difficult to drag yourself away to bed. The Little White Horse Pub befits a '50's colonial style, and there is a pleasing array of drinks and wine available, and bar service of course provided by David. Then into the Dining Room, which is a larger version of your favourite old Aunt's ! :) Where Benjamin attends to your every need, like an old fashioned butler. The food is what you would have by now come to expect. Hearty old favourite dishes and there is even a Venison roast :) We had Pate starters and Rump and Fillet mains and Ice Cream & Chocolate sauce, which were simple and delicious. To round off the evening, back into the Pub by the fire and some Port and gentle conversation with David. The Gardens are a delight, rustic and colourful and surrounded by an amazing variety of trees and flowering shrubs, with a small and pristine swimming pool. Tea and Scones on the terrace is a must ! White Horse Inn is a little Olde Worlde gem, exuding charm and character and almost hidden from the world, but only 3 kms off the road from Mutare to Vumba. A perfect place to just chill out and relax, but also well-placed to visit all the local attractions around and about in the Vumba, which is a spectacular and scenic part of Zimbabwe. Put it on your 'Bucket List' and go there. You won't be sorry ! :)

Have stayed twice at the WHI and will stay there again next time I'm in Mutare. The rooms are spacious, mine even had a private door straight onto the pool area. The pool is refreshing and clean. Surroundings beautiful, go for a run in the Bvumba or drive up the mountain for an excursion. The location is perfect. The staff at the Inn offers fantastic service and you really feel pampered. The food is great and nothing beats relaxing in front of the fire place on a chilly evening, while waiting for your meal to be prepared. I have also used their conference facilities which are good. I definitely recommend a stay here for anyone who wishes to get away and recharge your batteries.

The food and service is what makes this inn worthwhile. The bedding, towels and mattresses could use some updating. Things are a bit tired but that is part of the charm in 70's decor. Considering the financial state of the area, this kind of maintenance may just be too costly. The avocados from the property are very delicious and creamy. Guinea Fowl is a great entree. Very nice wine selection.
Arrange for a bird watching tour with Sam.. He is not only an expert in this specialized field but he can make bird sounds and actually talks to the birds.

Hi, Golden Peacock is situated right in town in Mutare. Its more of a conference venue, no ambience like the small hotels in the Vumba, I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist venue, sorry I don't have contact details
Answer from ChrisW311
