Upon entering this hotel, for a split second I felt like entering a Stalinist building somewhere in the old Soviet Union. Polished marble, huge hall and the impression of a somewhat faded glory. Here the comparison ends because the personnel is so exceedingly polite, friendly and ready to help that you are unmistakably in Japan. The rooms are western style... More

We stayed one night in a western style deluxe twin. Arrival and check-in went smoothly. Our corner room had excellent views from the sixth floor of the Nagarawara River. A view of Gifu Castle is also visible. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable, with Japanese Yukatas for sleeping provided, free of charge, as is Wi-Fi. We enjoyed the main... More

History: Originally built and opened in 1964 Location: North side of Nagara River, on the backside of Kinkazan. Approximately 5km from Gifu train station. Still a good location for Kinkazan and Gifu Park. Interior Decor: Outdated furniture, not classic enough to be called "antiques". Exterior Apperance: 12 story building with annex buildings attached on both west and east sides. Showing... More

This hotel is huge. The interior of this hotel and rooms felt and looked slightly older than Gifu Miyako Hotel (see my review on this hotel) and much more Japanese feel than western feel hotel. However, comfort wise I much prefer this hotel as it felt more cosy. A huge bonus is that they have hot spring bath house in... More

We stayed here overnight. The hotel was big but the room is average. We stayedin twin room. It's facing nagaragawa river so you can swim there if you want during summer. We had french dinner and it was not that good compared to other hotel. If you want to watch ukai, better have a reservation with the hotel.it's 1000 yen... More

Thank you very much for stayning with our hotel. We hope you enjoyed your stay with us. I see some people swimming and doing barbecue near nagaragawa river during summer. You can enjoy the scenery of nagaragawa river, the knka mountain and the Gifu castle from river side room. Did you see Ukai? How was it? As you know, if... More

Truthfully, we only booked this hotel because of its location. The service wasn't great. Rooms were pretty average. Price was kind of expensive for what we got. The cormorant fishing (Ukai) was our main reason for staying in Gifu. This was a highlight of our trip to Japan. Highly recommend this experience.

Really enjoyed the public baths here. Go just before the 9am closing time and just before 10pm to get more privacy. The changing rooms have everything you need from skin care to hair care. Even lockers and towels. A scale to check your weight and products for you to sample and entice you to buy from their shops. Yes, I... More

We usually do lots of research prior to our Japan trips and we had singled out this hotel and location as one of interest. The location was right on the river bank where the ukai cormorant fishing takes place and it looked appealing and the forested mountain opposite crowned by Gifu Castle seemed too good to be true. We were... More

This large hotel is situated a way out from the center of Gifu on the Nagara river. Typical of many large Japanese hotels it seems to specialize in weddings and events, along with some tourist business. The service is excellent, and staff do speak some English. The room prices are reasonable. You can view traditional nighttime cormorant fishing (ukai) in... More
