I stayed here with a tour group and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful! Lovely to sleep in traditional facilities for a couple of nights. The futon was surprisingly comfortable and the meals were amazing. The shared washing and bath facilities were a bit of a surprise but I enjoyed the "Japanese experience".

Iwatakan has 10 bedrooms with futons on top of tatami matting on the floor and shoes left at the entrance door. Shared facilities including Onsen (hot spring bath), showers, toilets and sinks. We negotiated a slot with a key for the 2 of us to use so it worked out. Excellent Japanese breakfast if you order in advance. Very friendly...

This is a great little minshuku. We travelled with our 2 year old and were made to feel very welcome. We'd stayed in business hotels previously, and for the same cost (less actually), we got a lot more space, room for the little one to run around and sleeping on the futons means no risk of the falling off the...

We slept here for two nights in august, the free pick up and drop off service to the train station is very good. Because it's quite a walk with luggage. Taxi is about 880 yen. A very big plus of iwatakan is the free bike service. Takayama is a small city best crossed by bike. They have plenty of bike's...

Super friendly and attentive service and very very clean. Not a big fan of shared bathing but plenty of times it's free so you don't have to. Food is amazing and I'm vegetarian so a very big compliment for a non veggy establishment. Only room for improvement would be a communal, cool socialising area.

Be prepared this is traditional Japanese with shared bathroom facilities, don't moan about it expect it, if you don't like the idea go to a western hotel. Lovely hospitable people, very good Japanese feast for dinner and Japanese breakfast. All facilities clean and well presented.

Hospitality perfect, Japanese breakfast good for only ¥ 850. Very clean accomodation. Oke, there are shared facilities, but when you know that in advance, no problem. And the spa is for free too. A bit far from the station, but they pick you up and bring you back, exactly on time and for free. You can also ride a bike...

Beds really comfortable, and a lot of storage space. The onsen very relaxing and everything about this place has a friendliness about it. The breakfasts were excellent, a mixture of Japanese and Western but certainly substantial. We had an evening meal which was absolutely superb, one that I could eat over and over again.

We stayed in this Inn for 2 nights. The rooms are adequate but a little small compared to other Inns we stayed at. Futon was very comfortable compared to other Inns. Shared facilities were a disappointment and there was no breakfast or dinner available, this was contrary to what was advertised. We stayed with 13 other guest and we were...
