We came to Takayama to relax for a few days before heading to the big lights of Tokyo and this ryokan did not disappoint! We walked from the train station and the hotel was a little hard to find at first - located up a steep hill on the other side of town. We had an amazing room at the... More

Very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. The public baths were clean and not crowded at all. Rooms are big, we had our own shower but used thr public bath each evening. Overall, an amazing ryokan experience. The way uphill was a bit inconvenient especially the first time with our bagpacks. But not a problem if you don't have luggage and... More

We had the best time staying here for 3 nights, just wished we'd stayed longer. Perfectly located for us, although the uphill walk from the town may not suit everyone, close to some lovely walking trails and not far to walk to the centre of town. The hotel itself is completely charming, our room was like a suite with a... More

I was really looking forward to staying at this ryokan after reading good reviews and seeing its location at the edge of Shiroyama Park. We got a reasonable price for two rooms. I called them from the train station to request the shuttle service. No one spoke English that day, but I got through with some broken Japanese and the... More

If there is one word I would use to describe our stay here, I would use the word lukewarm. It's not a badly run place, but it pales in comparison with many others we have been to. The ryokan is very much a business. The quality of the staff varies. Some are really warm and friendly. Others are deadpan and... More

We stayed one night in this ryokan and felt welcomed from the first second. The room was clean and well kempt. The two onsens are perfect to calm down - especially in the evening with a wonderful view over the city.

We spent one night here, on our way to Hirayu Onsen. It's a quaint little inn, nothing spectacular - but in Japan, the service quality and consideration make all the difference. Given the snow and ice on the ground, it was a ginger walk up the slope to the hotel, but we made it safe and sound. Leaving the hotel... More

This is a difficult review because there is nothing really negative about this place (apart from the hill at the end of the day). Everything is spotless, albeit could do with a refurbishment, the staff are attentive, welcoming, friendly without being intrusive. I booked this hotel to have a Japanese ryokan experience, but it is not for me and that's... More

The hotel is located slightly up the hill. It is just a short downhill walk to the Nakabashi Bridge. The room is quite big with Japanese futon beds. The onsen were relaxing after a long walk. In the bathroom there were a big wooden bath tub that you can soak in and at the same time enjoy the view. Lastly,... More

I travelled alone this time. But this hotel is definitely a hotel for couples who want to enjoy private time to themselves. It was located on top of a hill which gives a very good scenic view of Takayama. It was snowing when I was there. Took many lovely pictures overlooking the view on top of a hill. It has... More
