Approximately 5 mins walk from the station, nice stylist interior. Deluxe double bed room has a huge bed on tatami mat, entire hotel is laid with tatami mat and no shoes are allowed into the rooms. Meals are ok, except it gets really smoky and might stench your own clothing, so best to wear the Samue provided by the hotel.... More

The public hot-spring result is quite good, with esp. good view at night. The reservable hot-spring is decent. The dinner with Hida Beef (飛騨牛) is decent. However, I really dislike : - The room is too small, and weird to still put a coffee table in such a small room so that I cannot even place the luggage. - The... More

We stayed a night in the city for the day we were heading out to Shirakawago. It was a great stay - near to train and bus station, loads of food nearby, amenities were simple but great, rooms were clean. The private baths that needed no reservations and non-chargeable were a great bonus to the trip. Buffet breakfast spread was... More

Great location for those on foot - easy walk to & fro railway/bus stations. Lovely rooftop onsen & massages. Loved the shoeless policy & tatami through the hotel. Ticks most of the boxes at a reasonable price.

Stayed for 3 nights - good base for the town and surrounding area. Pros- large baths ( as others have commented the private baths are gorgeous), large rooms, free washing machines, free coffee in reception, good breakfast. The position is excellent being only 5 minutes walk from the station and 10 minutes walk from the river and old streets. Cons... More

Although we ended up paying much more that we wanted (it was during the Autumn Festival in October), it was a very nice surprise. Here's why: 1. There's a great Onsen structure, including 3 private baths (perfect for couples, people that are not so comfortable being naked around strangers, or people with tattoos) and a public bath (split by gender).... The title says it all, this hotel is in a great location near the train station and not too far from the morning market. The rooms are adequate even large for Japanese style. The dinner was Hida beef you cook for yourself right at the table as well as a buffet. There is also a good breakfast buffet which includes... More

One night staying at Takayama Ouan was a highlight of our trip in Japan. It is an affordable price for a ryokan style with breakfast and dinner included in my opion, not to mention, the private rooftop onsen view is beautiful, my husband and I got lucky to see the sunset view from here. Food was delicious and staffs were... More

Recently went on an excellent Kuoni tour of Japan. However, the weak point was the poor service, both at the front desk and the restaurant, food (breakfast was cold), and poor welcome at the Takayama Ouan hotel. Rooms were very small and there was little space for suitcases. The staff were more concerned with where we were placing our shoes... More
