We hiked from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge which is a very scenic route. We stopped to use the free footbath provided by this hotel. The location of this hotel is very good with the gorgeous Asuza river in front of it and it is not too far to walk from bus terminal with a small overnight bag.

Kamikochi is a great area to visit for excellent hiking and this hotel suited us well. It is a 10 min walk from the bus stop. Get off the stop before the main Kamikochi bus station.

We stayed in a twin room which was adequate with a small bathroom. The room could do with some updating.

The hotel was quiet and the onsen was much needed after a long wet day of hiking.

The plus point if this hotel is the food. Dinner was excellent with multiple courses of Japanese local dishes. Breakfast had a wide selection of Japanese and Western food.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

We recently stayed at the Onsen Hotel in Kamikochi.
It is a very lovely property and the staffs are also very helpful and polite. We had a river facing Japanese style room and it was fabulous. The room size is very good and there was sufficient space to keep our 2 bags and 2 backpacks. There is a separate sitting area with a balcony overlooking the river and mountains. We also had special food requirements which were catered to perfectly.
It was raining during our stay, so the staff provided umbrellas and rain boots which was convenient. We booked the private bath for 1 hour and it was a nice experience. They did not give free late checkout, but agreed to keep our luggage and also allowed us to use the public bath if we wanted. We were unable to use the public bath since it would open only at 12.30pm, which was late for us.
Our overall experience was very good and we would gladly recommend this property to folks visiting Kamikochi.

Beautiful views and wonderful walks.

The hotel staff are friendly and mainly helpful. However, the hotel is in absolute need of a complete makeover. Looks almost derelict on the outside. Not quite so bad inside.

Our room smelt of dead rats. The manager said it was the new mats! We asked to change rooms but were told the only option was a room with no views and no bathroom! Interesting as the hotel had many vacancies.

The food. 6/10 for what it looks like. 1/10 for experience. Cold / tasteless / stale.

We didn’t let the dire hotel spoil our enjoyment of the truly stunning environment - but choose your hotel carefully.

Was sold out, or just closing. No room available. However, we also arrived without pre-booking. Be sure to reserve some time in advance. The mountains and scenery are great. There's a lot to do here. However, it also has many tourists, especially day tourists.

Went in for the onsen halfway between the hike at the two sides of the bus terminal (did not stay a night) and a tea break afterwards. only 800yen (can purchase a small towel by paying extra). Has a small tea room/restaurant looking out to the river where to can grab a bite before or after the onsen. They provide shampoo, body wash and face wash. There are 2 types of onsen (different source) including 3 outdoor ones (1 is covered) and 1 indoor.

We had a long stay in Kamikochi at the end of rainy season, we were lucky with the weather and we for sure enjoyed the fantastic nature in the area.
We had booked the most expensive room, a corner room facing the river and it was money well spend. We got a royal treatment from the staff with superb in room dinners while enjoying the fantastic river and mountain view.
The Onsen is quite nice, so we also spend quite some time relaxing in the warm pools after our daily hikes.
We hope to come back some day

We booked one night here as part of our honeymoon in Japan and we loved this little kitsch place! From the moment that we walked we felt welcome, we were the only non-japanese guests (they have slates with your names on outside when you arrive which is nice) but they really made us feel at home. Our room was not ready as we were early so they stored our bags for us whilst we went off for a walk. We came back quite a few hours later and were taken to our rooms (our bags were already there) and given a little briefing on the onsen and meals. Before dinner we went to relax our achy muscles in their onsen , with rock pools and individual wooden tubs, which was lovely - separated by sex and they also swap them daily so by going in the early morning again (perfect way to wake up!) I got to experience both sets! They have full toilettres in the showers so you don't need to bring your own. Just don't be shy, shower and get in and relax.

Dinner was DELICOUS! The mixed appetizers (sushi, pickled vegetables, tofu) were very tasty even though we were not 100% sure what we were eating. Next followed fish and soba noodles, tempura and this yummy tofu in a pot and also rice and miso soup. We could not fault a thing Ask for dessert to take away if you are full, we were! Make sure you wear your yukata to dinner, much more comfortable than clothes. Breakfast was mainly japanese style but they also had some breads, eggs and sausage which was a relief as I love Japanese food but it is not my favorite for breakfast. The hotel's decor is slightly dated but that to me was part of its charm but the rooms/bathrooms/onsen were very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful (gave advice on catching buses to Shirahone Onsen - there are only two a day which we had not realised and also the importance of booking your ticket and a seat!) and made us feel very comfortable and had a good level of English especially one of the Front Desk staff and one of the gentlemen in the Restaurant. The views from the hotel are stunning and it is a perfect location for exploring the main simple walks in Kamikochi. My only comment is that it is 15-20 minutes walk from Kamikochi Bus Station - get off at Imperial Hotel and walk down from there and save yourself some energy for other walks!!

Kamikochi is such a special place - this was the favourite stop on our whole trip. This hotel is perfectly located on the river - far enough away from the crowds to allow you to enjoy the fantastic scenery (and meet the monkeys) but walking distance from the trails, the bridge and the bus station. The hotel itself is functional, clean, a little aged, but the staff are the real selling point. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Ms Kido was a real gem who looked after us so well. Join the morning tour if you can - it's very charming, and look forward to the evening meals, which are plentiful and delicious. There is a private spa which we did use, but the outdoor public baths were better. Would highly recommend as a base to explore Kamikochi - and make sure to enjoy the foot spa after a long walk!

I visited Kamikochi on August 20, 2024, and while walking near your hotel, I accidentally fell into the river and injured my head.

I would like to thank the hotel staff for providing towels to stop the bleeding and calling an ambulance.

thank you very much!
