Detailed Reviews
We loved our 4 night stay here. We had a river facing room on the 4th floor, and could see all the activity around Kappabashi bridge, where this small hotel is located. The room photos on the website do not do it justice. Very smartly fitted out, with complimentary beer, soft drinks and cake in the mini bar. Tea and coffee facilities, dressing gowns, slippers, PJs etc. The food in the dining room was fantastic and they catered to my vegetarian diet beautifully. 7 course French influenced dinners with an equally delicious breakfast which was a combination of Japanese and Western food. Lunch is not served in the hotel (my only criticism) and is hard to find unless you go out early and buy something in the 3 or 4 small tourist shops in the area. There are hordes of day trippers but you can easily get away from the crowds by hiking up the valley or up the various trails to the peaks (we just turned around when we’d had enough). Can’t wait to come back!

+1
We were lucky to be the last guests before closing for the season. With many options to choose from, this is by far the best! The quality of the food is superb and the presentation tasteful and delicious. The rooms have a view of the river and mountains.
Pricey but well worth it, especially if you are a foodie!
Trails are nearby as is the famous bridge.

This is a fantastic hotel , location is perfect situated in the sublime beauty of Kamaikochi. Hiking trails start at the kappa-bashi bridge & follow the River Azusa-Gawa through magnificent forests.
The room had good views & very comfortable. 2 cans of free beer in the fridge , the onsen baths are well worth a visit. The food is fantastic . There is a coffee shop on the ground floor I would recommend the cheesecake its delicious.

The location of Gosenjaku hotel is unbeatable as it's right next to the Kappa Bridge, which I would consider as 'the centre' of Kamikochi. The dinner (western fine dine) and breakfast (western style) were both very nice, we really enjoyed it.
The room is basic but clean and tidy. There is an onsen, although it's not comparable to other proper onsen hotel, it was good to have an onsen bath after a day of hiking.
The reason why I'm not giving it a 5 stars is because it is pricy but I guess you don't really have much choice if you decided to spend a night or two in Kamikochi.

This is really outstanding from outside as well as from inside.. I am mesmerised by its looks and feels like a paradise. For whatever time we stayed there we felt like a heaven and so beautiful view can be seen at night.. Services and facilities are praise worthy. I am satisfied and overwhelmed with this.

I stayed for 1 night at the hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and came with beautiful views, free wifi and a free (minimally equipped) mini bar. Dinner was served at a set hour and was ~7 courses. The food was fantastic. The menu was in japanese and the wait staff only knew limited english. Still, we muddled through and I was given a rough idea of what I was being served. The reception staff spoke fluent english and were very helpful in providing maps of the area and recommending hikes. All staff were friendly and polite.
The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the local bus station and the trails start right at your doorstep.

I stayed at Gosenjaku for 2 nights. Located right in front of the Kappa Bridge and a few minutes walk away from the bus terminal. Great walking or hiking options on either side of the hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean with plenty of outlets for my charging needs. The bathroom real estate is that of a typical Japanese business hotel. The meals were absolutely delicous, and the fine-dining experience was fantastic. The staff were all friendly and accommodating even before my check-in, and were very helpful when I asked them questions. The front desk staff even escorted me to my room and explained the various gadgets available to me during my stay. The hotel is also very generous with its tasty snacks and drinks.
Beds were comfortable and the river outside provide a pleasant and relaxing sound.
I will definitely be booking my reservation at Gosenjaku the next time I come back to Kamikochi. It has been a great pleasure to stay at a wonderful hotel. Thank you.

Top Season, I stayed at this hotel. This hotel is located just in front of the famous landscape "Kappa Bridge". However, their service was not good enough against its payment around $300 peer person including 2 meals. The diner was french style and it's ok. In the morning, my son could not eat egg but they just serve only egg dish (sunny side, scramble, omelet). So my son had just side meal only. I can understand if this hotel is 3stars but this is 5 star hotel in Kamikochi area. Also I found kids slippers and a few trash under bed.

This hotel is very well located - a quick walk from the bus station and right at the Kappabashi bridge. The dinner was excellent and a nice change from the Japanese dinners you get at a Ryokan. We had two rooms. One had a great view of the bridge and was very spacious. The other was on the other side and was a bit musty. Both our rooms had a private bathroom - this was very basic - you may be better off not paying for this and using the public bath. There is no bar at the hotel, which is a pity. However, they do give you free access to a limited minibar (beer and soft drink). The staff were lovely and Kamakochi is definitely worth the visit (try to avoid the weekends as it is very busy).

Excellent location - one of the only two hotels which are just right at the Kappabashi bridge. Excellent services and dinner was very delicious. I went for a solo trip and this is the only hotel that is not required minimum 2 people to stay with. The room is mainly for couples or families but also good for a solo traveler. I checked with other hotels before I booked this one. I either could not make reservation or would be charged for two person's price. But with this hotel I only need to pay for one person. (Many luxary Japanese hotels are charge per person but not per room, and with minimum two occupants per room requirement.)
I was very satisfied with everything except for the room. With this price I was expecting a little classic hotel room. But this one was a little bit too simple. Just a wooden room with cheap furnitures. It might be the worst among the 5 star hotels I have ever stayed. Next time I may try the hotel across the bridge and see if it makes any difference.
