Detailed Reviews
Hard to beat being out in the Chubu Sangaku National Park in a high end hotel at a reasonable price! Breakfast and dinner are included along with breathtaking views of the Japanese Alps and great hikes for all levels.
Sunrise in the mountains is magical and the river is clear as can be.
We ran into several snow monkey troops on our hikes with no issue. Kept our distance and avoided agitating them.
Many provisions for bears although we never saw one.
Only downside was the futons were extremely flimsy. Took two futons and one blanket to make a bed soft enough for this old body.

Stayed 1 night here to have more time to enjoy Kamikochi. Setting was perfect, right at Kappabashi bridge, a short walk from the bus terminal. Our Japanese style tatami room was clean and comfortable. Fantastic buffet dinner and breakfast included in the rate. The shared Japanese style bath did not get too crowded during our stay.
However I did not get a restful sleep since we could hear the continuous sound of howling wind throughout the night. We visited in July, and not sure if we came at a particularly windy time.

We had a simple japaneese style room with a bath. Clear and nice, just what we needed before a 4 day hike.
Great dinner buffet, all you can eat (including ice cream).
We had to leave before breakfast so the staff prepared a bento box for us. Very service minded!

not one vegetarian option at dinner not one. 20 meat dishes all meat mixed with veggies even mushroom soup had meat.
Front desk argued and said it was my problem but no vegetarian meal option would be offered. Paid hundreds of dollars to stay at hotel and wasnt able to eat hot meal.
Also stayed at hut on mountain and no issue getting nice hot vegetarian meal.
Front desk will argue with you saying chef only cooks animals.
Also arrived at 145pm after hiking 7 hours refused to check me in until 3pm!!!! Stay away if you are vegetarian and/or hiker.

Stayed just one night here. Really good buffet dinner and breakfast included in the price of the room. Clean spacious tatami room and bathhouse and friendly staff - all in a beautiful location by the river and Kappabashi bridge. Recommended.

We planned to stay in a tent but it was a long journey to Kami Kochi from Tokyo so plan changed. We called Gosenjaku lodge and there was an availability luckily. The room was kind of small (6上畳)but nice, clean, cozy and simple. We liked it.
Great location and the foods were delicious.
Apple pie was just ok as Japanese style. Don't expect like American Apple pie🙊.
As a lodge itself cozy and homy. But I feel it's a bit overpriced. One person was ¥18,000 per night. I would say one room should be able to ¥18,000 plus tax that's reasonable.
My partner was in sick on 2nd day. I requested to stay over a bit longer time like few hours after check out time but they were not allow to do.
Well overall stay was fantastic.
Thanks
