This is a super nice, well kept facility sitting across the street from the ocean in a rather quiet location. Double room was good size and nicely furnished and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner buffets were exceptional!! Beats Golden Corral by light years! Though mainly set up for Japanese tastes, good layout of Western foods also available. Desk staff always extremely helpful. The onsen is located on the upper floor of the hotel and provides a good view of the ocean as one enjoys a comfortable soak. Though there are other buildings between the onsen and the ocean, they do not greatly obstruct the view. Only possible knock is location in the sense that it is somewhat remote from a great selection of restaurants, shops and points of interest accessible without a car. The buffet takes care of the eating issues and the botanical gardens and ocean shore are across the street, so this may not be much of a negative. The purpose after all is relaxation.

We stayed here on our first night in Hakodate and had a beautiful time. The hotel is very modern, new, and clean. The bathroom was spacious with a large bath/shower area. The staff were very attentive and kind.

You receive "room wear / lounge wear" to wear during your stay, and you can wear it to the Onsen, or even wear it to the meals in the restaurant. The onsen is on the 14th floor with a beautiful view of the ocean. There is a private onsen you can reserve as well (best to do that ahead of time, as the private bath can get booked up in advance). There are 2 massage pods on the 14th floor as well, and you get a nice little 15-minute chair machine massage while enjoying the city viewer for 300 yen.

A fun bonus was being able to see the Hakodate Botanical Gardens and Japanese macaques from our room. It's a short walk from the hotel.

Love everything in this hotel. The Junior Suite room is a perfect room for a family of 4 with 2 twin western beds and two Japanese Futons on a Tatami Floor in a separated Tatami section. A two person couch and a small perfect working area is a plus. I also love the separated shower and bathtub and the room is nice with Japanese modern style. The onsen is good, especially the outdoor onsen overlooking Sea and mountains. The buffet dinner that comes with a half board is amazing, they also have yoghurt section variety of nuts, cereal and muesli. And the vegetables section is one of the best. So basically the dinner is for both carnivore and vegetarian 🌱. Love the Hewitt Hotel 🏨

What a wonderful experience! We were amazed at the selection of fresh seafood for breakfast and dinner. This is by far the best hotel seafood buffet for sure!
The facilities are clean, rooms are spacious and tidy, overall ambience is great!
Onsen is nice and relaxing.

It is a bit far away from JR Hakodate station and does require you to either take taxi or bus. The hotel was offering a small hotel shuttle at the time which was nice however must reserve with the hotel before hand. The lady driving the shuttle bus was very nice and even gave us some traveling tips for the local area! Thank you!

Special thanks to Mr. Yoshida-san at the front reception. He had noticed that one of the shuttle times we had reserved was not available that day, so he took extra effort to make sure we made it to the earlier shuttle time to make it back to the hotel. Thank you Yoshida-san!

I really would like to come back and stay at Umi to Akari soon. It was a wonderful experience! Wish the best of success to this hotel!

Amazing onsen with sea view. Just breathtaking.
2 meals were great with lots of seafood.
Room was comfortable.
Free shuttle but there was a bus stop in front of the hotel.
I will come again to this hotel instead of the ones that i used near the station. I dont mind the distance becasue the hotel is so great and price very reasonable.

This hotel is a relatively newer hotel . There is a huge free open carpark behind the hotel. Check in was fast . Welcome drinks were served. The twin rooms are very comfortable with good temperature control and firm beds. Wifi was fast. There was a bathtub and a area to sit down and shower just like in the onsen area. Two bottles of water were provided.
Dinner was good with snow crabs , sashimi like tuna , octopus , ikura etc . There was also a ramen section where you cook your own ramen . For desert , there was an assortment of cakes and ice cream .
Onsens were new and relatively empty. The bathing area was adequately lit . The only drawback was that only one type of shampoo and conditioner was available . There was a long indoor onsen . Outdoor onsens had a long sort of infinity pool , another pool and two barrel tubs . The onsens were clean and new and quiet. There was also a resting area that looked out over the city at night . What would make the experience better would be perhaps popsicles could be offered for all to enjoy after the onsen.
Breakfast was good .
Overall a very comfortable and reasonably priced stay near an Aeon mall and fantastic soba restaurant

The building and facilities are new and the front desk and staff are friendly, but the dinner buffet is terrible.
The sashimi is all cheap, low-quality fish. The crab legs are hollow and the small salmon roe and trout roe are not marketable. Naturally, it's not tasty.
The way the chefs take turns placing cheap fish fillets on top of the rows of rice balls is also bad. I'm shocked at how many customers are competing for such plates.
The sounds of babies crying echo all around the dining area, and the food counter is crowded with unsophisticated people, like a rush-hour commute.
It's not the kind of atmosphere where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. And it wasn't tasty. It was a big failure.

The view and hot springs were great, but the food was simply amazing. They require an advance reservation so we were able to dine at our leisure without it being crowded.
We had planned to go to the station market the next morning, but as we were traveling with three generations, we looked for a hotel with good food and chose this one.
The food was better than we could have imagined.
The parking lot was a little small, so those arriving by car had to walk a little from where the second parking lot was.
Apart from that, we would rate our stay perfect.
Next time we'd like to come back just for the food.

I was looking forward to it because it looked so delicious after watching it on YouTube and reviews. The rooms are very clean because it's a new hotel, and the hot spring was really great! The breeze in the open-air bath is so nice that you can stay in it forever 😊
However, the food was a little disappointing. Most of the crabs at dinner were red snow crabs, and they seemed to replenish them occasionally, and when I tried them, they had a terrible fishy smell. There was also very little seafood like what I had seen on YouTube. There was no conger eel, no tuna, only albacore, and no squid on the first night. I was disappointed because I had high expectations. What surprised me was that there were no potatoes at all. I almost thought, "Are they just leaving them there because it's for a photo shoot?" It was pretty tasty, but I wish I had stayed at a different hotel on the second day in terms of the food. But the hot springs were great
