This was by far the most traditional place we stayed in. Outstanding service that went above and beyond. The rooms are traditional with futons and they also had a private onsen in the room which was lovely. The level of detail to service was outstanding!

My family and I enjoyed this stay immensely. The rooms are spacious and airy, with a great view of Otaru, food is top-notch (the crab especially), and service was always friendly, warm and prompt. Their attention to detail is extraordinary. Even though the ryokan is not in the heart of Otaru, it affords beautiful coastal and city views that more...

Ginroso is not as historic as Gora Kadan in Hakone, the newer high rise section is where we stayed. The first room on the fifth floor was hot and with the windows open we could smell cigarette smoke. Little English is spoken here so they called our first guide to translate the problem for us. They apologetically moved us to...

This was our first time at a ryokan and it is perched high up just outside Otaru town with an excellent view of the town and the bay from our very spacious room - which includes an enclosed balcony/sitting area, the main room which doubles as sleeping and living area as is usual, a hallway with the drink amenities and...

Went in March with my wife. Still it was all white in snow. Actually snowed everyday. Beautiful ryokan upon a hill looking over Otaru harbor. Better get a room in new building which has private in-room hot spring bath. View at night of sparkling Otaru was magical. Dinner course was fantastic. Even a whole hairy crab came out. During my...

Beyond expectations and deserving of a great review. Yes it's expensive but worth it. Exquisite in the detail and the food really good indeed. The old world charm that exudes every pore of this place is an experience in itself. Coming back if I'm in Japan.

I stayed with my parents and younger brother on last Sunday of May. Their services were much better than I'd expected. The thoughts were not only from me, but from my parents. My further had been Sushi chef for over 30 years. Usually it is quite challenging to get his satisfaction on Japanese food quality. But this time, he was...

Experienced a great traditional japanese life. Service is excellent in all level. when we arrive, they greet us and take care of all the luggage, and wait in the waiting room. They show us the room, with great view. We feel the peacefulness and privacy in the hotel. Dinner kaiseki with 13 courses are excellent, and so was breakfast. We...

We were lucky enough to visit this ryokan during the snow festival week that was happening in Sapporo. We took the train from Sapporo to Otaru Chicco which is only around 30 minutes ride so you could even do day trips to Sapporo if you wanted and were greeted at the train station by a member of staff who then...
