My husband and I had a great time at this Ryoken when we stayed in Hakone for one night. We absolutely loved how you can reserve the private onsen for 30 minutes and enjoy it together (whereas often men/women are separated into different onsens). This was a highlight of the stay, getting a chance to relax, reflect, and enjoy the evening in a hot spring. The rooms were spacious and just what we were looking for. They were clean and the bedding was fairly comfortable for a futon. The traditional dinner was quite adventurous for us, lots of courses and seafood! The room has a bathroom and sink (just no shower, which you use downstairs in the public onsen area). Good location, but it is up a hill from the main train station, so taking the recommendation to take the railway up one stop could be a good option (or just be prepared for a 10-15 min walk with some uphill). We looked at a lot of different Ryokens in Hakone, and this one has great quality and value, we'd recommend staying here!

Quiet ryokan, clean and simple rooms, wonderful dinner and breakfast, and the service was warm and excellent. I enjoyed the onsen experience very much! Loved that the outdoor onsen faced a garden with tulips and flowers. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed one night at Lalaca during our honeymoon, and it was a highlight of the entire trip! The hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming. There are only a few rooms so all guests are given personalized attention. English language materials are provided to introduce you to onsen and ryokan guidelines. I have never felt so refreshed after a one night stay - the beautiful mountain views, mineral water bath, and delicious dinner and breakfast were sublime.

Amazing small property with only 9 rooms! Stayed for just 1 night with my family, in hindsight, should have stayed 1 more night! What I liked: * It goes without saying that the property was clean, and all expected amenities were present. The room is traditional Japanese style with tatami mat, which is then converted into a sleeping space during dinner time with futon beds. * The good is amazing - dinner and breakfast are served in a dining space (not in your own room as some Ryokans do), but the food quality is outstanding, and the experience is just as good. * There is a public bath in the property, but at night, from 8pm onwards, there is also a private onsen available for guests to book (30 minutes each). Please take advantage of that, its amazing! * The location is pretty good - from the property, it is a gentle walk downhill to Gora station. If you have a large luggage, take the Hakone cable car 1 station up from Gora for a gentler walk. I definitely recommend this property for stays in Hakone!

A charming and secluded spot that exudes calmness The staff are incredibly attentive and, much like most Japanese people we have come across, they were wholly attentive. The food is full on Japanese, with no outside influences, so go with an open mind and be prepared for something different A couple of days here is enough and the hotel boasts great transport links to see viewing spots for Mount Fuji and nearby hot sulphur springs The in house onsen is extremely relaxing too

I was a bit apprehensive with the dinner and breakfast as my son and husband had dietary requirements but they catered to our food requests. The multi course dinner and breakfast was excellent. In our multi course dinner, there was sashimi, crab, and sukiyaki. We were stuffed towards the end. And the food was tasty. The onsen experience was wonderful as well. And the rooms were spacious and very clean. They got me a shorter length yukata, and a children size one for my son. I travelled with my 2.5 year old son and he was welcomed and the inn was spacious enough for him to wander around without being a bother. It's near the Gora station and easy to get to. The hotel helped us arrange for a baggage delivery service to Hakone-Yumoto station. I wouldn't mind staying another night if I had more time. When I first booked the place, I felt it was pricey but the experience was worth every penny.

Most fantastic stay in this small family owned ryokan. Very easy access from station. The ryokan website clearly outlines the direction. It is quiet, clean, peaceful and an ideal place to remove all stress from the body and mind. The staff speaks several languages which is a tremendous asset and is always smiling. They do help a lot in explaining the etiquette which is useful to avoid blunders ! The food was exquisite prepared from fresh produce and varies every day. Good place to taste the local specialties. The onsens (indoor and outdoor) are segregated as in all onsens in Japan. However one can book for 30 mins for private use as from 19h00. It was blissful ! My spouse enjoyed this. An advice : book immediately as you check in so as to get the best time suited. A suggestion : a lounge bed after the onsen would have been the final touch to perfection. We will definitely stay at Lalaca without hesitation should we go back to Japan.

This was a memorable stay in Hakone. The Ryokan is well-appointed, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the view from the room is great! The location was great for us -- it allowed us to explore the phenomenal Hakone outdoor museum on foot on the evening of our arrival and starting early on the cable car part of the Hakone loop next morning. The food -- both dinner and breakfast -- were very well appointed. They accommodated my wife's vegetarian request very well.

My husband and I stayed here for our last night in Japan, and it was so lovely! After coming from hectic Tokyo, Lalaca was peaceful and quiet. We arrived about 1pm, and knowing it was too early to check in, we left our bags with no problem and went off to explore the region by cable car, ropeway, boat, and bus (in that order). We arrived back at Lalaca before 6, just in time for dinner. A very pleasant young woman who spoke excellent English showed us to our room and explained how everything worked. After donning our yukata, we enjoyed a fabulous multi-course traditional dinner, the best meal of our trip. All dishes were presented beautifully in the pretty dining room overlooking the forest. So relaxing! After dinner, it was off to the onsen. Here's where we ran into our only snag. While we booked the private onsen, we couldn't find it! My husand and I each went into our respective areas to disrobe and pre-bathe, and then looked for some entrance to the private onsen. No luck, so we enjoyed our separate baths. When we emerged, we noticed what I think was the private onsen accessed directly off the downstairs recreation room (not from the changing rooms). The sign for it was only in Japanese. I hope the otherwise wonderful owners provide directions or a sign in the future for non-Japanese speaking guests. Overall, though, the inn was wonderful. We had the traditional Japanese room. It was very spacious. Hot water and tea-making supplies were provided. The futons were very comfortable. Our room had toilet facilities but no shower; however, it was no problem as there's one in the onsen bathing area. After an equally fantastic breakfast, we relaxed a bit more and then planned to walk down to Gora Station. However, the owner, without us even asking, offered to drive us - great service! Lalaca is a beautiful, small inn in a peaceful and quiet area, and hope we can return for a longer visit one day.
