Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for two nights and did the “planes, trains and automobiles” circuit. It is great fun but you need to cross fingers for good weather if you want to see Mount Fuji. Best way to get an idea is to search cloud levels at Shizuoka-Shi; looking for 10% or less. Kuranju is delightful..use the onsen. Food is very good and a combination of Japanese and European. Owner is very knowledgeable and will transfer/pick up from local bus stops. Local buses are fantastic!

Unfortunately we had only one night here while visiting the area to see Mt Fuji and surrounds. We were happily picked up by the owners as the walk from either Oshiba or Motohakone pier would have been a tedious up hill walk for around 20/30min. Upon arriving the hotel is set in beautiful surroundings with very friendly smiles. The hotel rooms are certainly on the large size for Japan and are well appointed. Each of the rooms also have beautiful views down the Valley. The hotel also has two private outside onsens on site so make sure you book them if travelling in the busy period. Certainly a great way to sooth sore muscles at the end of each day. The meals at the hotel were quite nice and a mix of both western and traditional Japanese. You do have to book in dinner as all meals are at set times which the owners follow to the minute. If I was ever to be back here in Hokone area of Japan I would certainly make more time to stay here for a couple of nights. Friendly family owned with exceptional service.

We had a lovely stay in this hotel on the hill above Lake Ashi. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He drove us to the boat in the morning and picked us up in the afternoon. The private onsen was great. And the food was simply delicious.

This is a very beautiful hotel with extremely kind and friendly owner. The private onsens are set facing spectacular view of lake Ashi. Dinner and breakfast was fresh, delicious and flavourful. The main attractions in Hakone are nearby and so we recommend so stay here if you visit Hakone. I can't find any faults. Definitely recommended. It is easy to find local bus service, if in doubt use google maps.

We were in Hakone to spend the last days of our honeymoon in a peaceful place. The weather was not on our side as it rained a lot the whole time. But it did not matter thanks to the excelent service and the beautiful and perfectly cleaned room. The owner was not only extremely friendly, but also went out of his way to make our stay turn into a lovely memory. He even drove us to the supermarket during the storm so that my wife could buy some glutenfree stuff. The japanese breakfast was great and carefuly preprared. We had everything we needed, from umbrellas to phone chargers. The private onsen was the cherry on top: a perfect place to rest and recover from a long trip and enjoy the nature. If we ever visit Japan again, we'll definately spend a couple of days in Kuranju again. Thank you for a lovely stay!

This hotel is located about 15 minutes' walk outside Moto-Hakone, the town at the head of lake Ashai where the cruise-boats start out from. If you don't arrive in your own car, the owner will pick you up at the bus-stop or drop you off there by car if you arrange it beforehand. I enjoyed my stay here because the owner and his wife made me feel very welcome, spoke good English, and provided a high level of service throughout. There are two separate japanese baths in this hotel that you can use in the morning or at night. Breakfast (Y1000) and dinner (Y3000) were very tasty. Hakone Kuranju is a small family-run hotel that more than makes up for its lack of fanciness with its very warm and genuine vibe. Its just outside Moto-Hakone in a little hillside neighbouhood, on a ridge overlooking the town and the forests that are all around.
