We are so glad that we stayed in Gora Yutowa hotel as our first visit to Hakone. It’s a true 5 star ⭐️ experience if you prefer modern design, big open space, and delicious breakfast.

The location is super close to the Gora station, only 3 min walk, 5 min walk to Lawson. The stuff are all friendly and attentive which makes you feel at home. We enjoy the most was the hotel library and the self-service Coffee/Tea bar. In the evening there was free mini cocktail corner for the guests to enjoy the making of your own drinks.

The public hot spring is nice and clean. While the outdoor foot onsen in the court yard has a more romantic atmosphere, with bonfire and under the stars.

Our room on 5th floor is just spectacular, a simple modern Japanese style twin room. But it’s quite big with a huge window facing East and the mountain, we were able to see the boats on Sagami Bay and, watching the sunrise from the room.

Also the interior of the hotel is beautifully decorated with the natural pattern carpet, calming timber wall and marble stairs. We stayed two nights and enjoyed delicious breakfast every morning in the Mountain View hotel restaurant.

We absolutely adore Hotel Yutowa and, it’s the go to hotel for our second visit to Hakone!

We stayed here in February for 3 nights, the hotel is in Gora and close to the station. Our twin deluxe room was pleasant and modern (spacious for a Japanese room) and had partial views to the mountains, but mostly of the train level crossing (which can be a little noisy, I didn’t mind it.)

I paid for the buffet dinner and breakfast, and the rate (especially for the dinner) was very expensive. The dinner unfortunately was not worth the money - the buffet room is way too small for the number of guests, and with small kids poking their fingers into things and people going in all directions it was unpleasant and somewhat unsanitary. Breakfast was also much the same. Also note the breakfast buffet ends quite early (9am) .
The food (including the shabu shabu) was not a stand out either. It was a pity as there are not many places to eat in Gora at night, however we did find a couple of local restaurants which were quite nice.
The saving grace was the unlimited drinks and the draft beer dispenser at dinner (great idea!)
In the lounge there were also unlimited soft drinks, coffee, tea and a selection of alcohol after 7pm ( wine and spirits) with crackers and sweets which was also nice.
Didn’t have a chance to use the baths but most people are gadding about in the yukata supplied at reception.

Overall the hotel needs improvement in the food area (cost, food selection, size of buffet area and closing times) but it was still a nice place to spend a few nights at.

n.b. If you’re from NSW, Hakone has a Blue Mountains touristy feeling - but with an awesome caldera and ropeway. Get the Hakone Freepass, it’s well worth it.

We just arrived and we immediately get an upgrade of our room at the reception.
The staff is always smiling and polite.
They have an amazing library we’re you can read and small vending machine FREE.
The wifi is really fast and they have a huge tv were you can watch Netflix all the time.
They also have private Onsen were you can chill in case you don’t like to share with other people. FYI you need to book a time with them and you can go there only one time per day.
Amazing experience overall

There's a lot to like at this hotel. It's an easy walk from the train station and has nice views from many of the windows. (As at most hotels, this willl depend on which way your room faces. I was lucky to face a view that was beautiful both in daylight and with the hotel's outdoor lighting at night.) It would be a good place for families, as there are play areas for children and a deck with a foot bath that they can enjoy. An all-day station for warm and cold drinks is pleasant for adults as well as children. The staff is kind and helpful.

In this time of Covid, I wasn't ready to be enclosed in the group women's onsen (there are no outdoor baths other than the foot bath), but I saw a lot of people using it. I did try the small private bath, which was pleasant though nothing special.

The rate for a plan including dinner and breakfast was very reasonable at the time I booked, and I considered it a good value. There's a varied selection of dishes at both meals, and while they weren't the most imaginative buffets I've experiened at Japanse hotels, they were more than adequate. For the dinner meal, you select an entree in advance. Mine was a dish with several pieces of beef, some veggies and a sauce, which I was shown how to cook in a hot pot at my table. Supplemented with salads and appetizers from the buffet, it was a satisfying meal.

There was one major deficiency at this hotel, and it's the negative that would keep me from booking here again. Although my room was large (including a sofa as well as two beds), there was not a single drawer. There were a few pegs on the wall, but other than that, there was nowhere to store your clothing. As the room also lacked a luggage stand, the only option was to use your suitcase as a drawer laid either on the floor or on the sofa. That made the otherwise attractive room look messy, and made it irritating to search for things in the suitcase. This sounds like whining as I write it, but because I've never stayed in a hotel that lacked at least one drawer (even small business hotel), I found it an unwelcome surprise in an otherwise pleasant stay. The Hakone Yutowa has a condo wing in addition to the hotel wing, and I imagine the condo rooms would have drawers.

We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed our stay. It was close to perfect albeit with some room for improvement (more on that later). Service was fantastic across the board and our room was very comfortable. We loved the free drink bar and the afternoon snacks (sweets, senbei, etc) were a brilliant touch. It was a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Although a bit hectic at times, breakfast was very good with a good mix of Japanese and Western dishes. For dinner, we ate out once and ate once at the hotel. As a vegetarian, options in the area are extremely limited so I was grateful for the plant-based nabe dinner that the hotel provided. The price though for dinner was quite high and if we’re being honest didn’t quite meet our expectations for the price we paid.

Because of my tattoos I was unable to use the public onsen and instead used one of the two private onsens available. The onsen was nice and cleaned regularly which was appreciated. However, we found the lack of a reservation system rather inefficient. You had to wait in the lobby until one of the private rooms became available. It was moderately busy when we were there and we ended up waiting for nearly 45 minutes. That was time we could have been spending elsewhere. With just two rooms, I think a reservation system would have been more efficient.

The only other downside (or upside depending on what you’re looking for) is that there isn’t a whole lot to do in the Gora area. Without a car, it’s a good 35-40 minute train ride back down to Hakone proper.

Well located an easy walk from station and cable car There is a local restaurant a little further down rd where we enjoyed a meal .We had one of their larger rooms. It was fairly sparse but very comfortable. We had dinner in one night which was a buffet style and was v good breakfast is one of the better buffet style that we have had in smaller hotels inJapan . The hotel provides a small selection of food complimentary bw 7-9 pm which we enjoyed The public spaces especially the library is great spot to relax and catch up on some reading . Staff were very helpful and friendly . It is a slightly spread out hotel so a few stairs . Popular with young families . Hakone is beautiful

We liked the combination of traditional
ryokan and hotel. We had one of the traditional traditional Japanese rooms complete
with tatami flooring. It was very comfortable and a good size with a sofa. Our room had a view over the fire pit and outdoor foot bath.

There are
the many leisure spaces in which to relax after sightseeing. Seating at different levels for relaxing or playing board games. Very convivial atmosphere. There is a
public and private bath, garden terrace
children's play area, and a library area including English books. Free drinks and nibbles are served in the public areas which was a nice touch.

The layout of the hotel itself was a bit confusing, presumably because of its past function as a research station, so I kept getting confused.

The staff are very welcoming with good English.

The location is quiet but very convenient for the cable car, agora station and the Open air museum. All easy walking distance.

Within immediate walking distance there are few restaurants and I suspect they would need to be prebooked to ensure a table. Unusually for us we decided to have dinner in-hotel. Whilst seemingly bit expensive up front it represented excellent value with everything included. There was a big variety and all well prepared. Breakfast is a buffet and not as good as dinner

On the downside we found the room hot. The shower head could have done with decalcifying and the shower door had not been cleaned of water marks. If this is not going to be done leave me a squeegee and I will do it myself! .

Would definitely stay here again and recommend.

This is a comfortable hotel where we stayed in the “condominium building” with large rooms, kitchenettes, and a sitting area. A plus in this hotel is a large common area where snack, beverages, and sweets are provided throughout the afternoon and evening. There is also a children’s play area with refreshments. Breakfast and dinner are buffet only and we found the food below average the prices high. Suggest eating dinner in one of the simple nearby restaurants in Gora instead.

We stayed here for 5 nights in two different condominium units (3303 with the A layout and 3304 with the C layout). We liked the A layout better, even though it was smaller, simply because the space was used more efficiently and it felt more open. The C layout has a large dining table that prevents you from getting directly to the hand-washing area from the toilet room (forces you to walk all the way around the large table as shown on the photo with the kitchen/dining table between the two doors). Additionally, the bedroom in the C layout has no windows which felt very claustrophobic. Finally, the C layout did feature a balcony with a lovely view, but please note that it would be highly unsafe for children as the wire 'railing' has huge openings (see photo). Overall a good experience, but there are a few issues.

Pros
Hotel is well-located in Hakone (close to ropeway, train station and open air museum which I highly recommend)
Lots of common areas and activities (library, onsens, free drinks/desserts)
Condo rooms were quite spacious and well appointed (note some of the hotel rooms are quite small)

Cons
Elevator only goes to condo floor 3 and there is a 3" step to get into building (challenging for disabled customers)
Large step up into the bathroom sink and shower area (again challenging for disabled customers)
Room features spa tub with constantly running spring water - great for an evening onsen experience, BUT keeps the entire condo really warm so air conditioning had to be on constantly
Ventilation system was quite dusty so I used my own air purifier constantly (see photo)
No silverware provided (only chopsticks) and only 1 burner cooktop in the small kitchen (making it difficult to cook meals)
Breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing

Friendly staff at this large sprawling hotel. Rooms are spacious and typically sparse. It has a great onsen and massage area. We had breakfast included in our stay which can only be described as disappointing. It was only served until 8.30am. The restaurant was much too small for the amount of people and food was not replenished quickly enough. On a plus note the hotel serves complementary drinks and snacks between 7/9 in the evenings and there is fresh fruit water and fruit ice-lollies available 24/7. It also has a really pretty outside area that has a fire pit and foot onsen. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the station which was an added bonus.
