The Hakone Gora Kuraku hotel exceeded all my expectations, making it one of the most memorable stays I've had. From its pristine cleanliness to its sleek modern design, every aspect of the hotel exuded sophistication. The staff's unwavering attentiveness further elevated the experience, ensuring that every need was met with care and efficiency. Despite the premium price tag, the lavishness of the experience justifies the cost entirely.

Our room was generously spacious and thoughtfully equipped with all amenities, including the traditional Ukatas that added a delightful touch to our stay. The highlight, undoubtedly, was the hot spring bath offering panoramic views of the breathtaking mountain scenery. The tranquil grounds provided a serene ambiance, perfect for unwinding and rejuvenating the senses.

While the dinner served was commendable, it's important to note that the cuisine leans heavily towards traditional Japanese flavours and textures. As an Irish diner, I found some dishes challenging to palate, given the vast difference in tastes compared to my usual fare. Despite my familiarity with sushi, I still encountered some difficulty. However, the meticulous craftsmanship evident in each dish was undeniable, contributing to an overall exceptional dining experience.

In conclusion, although the culinary experience may pose a slight challenge for those unaccustomed to Japanese cuisine, the Hakone Gora Kuraku hotel undeniably offers a first-class experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Had doubts about all the good reviews. All doubts were answered, all the positive reviews were confirmed. Was greeted by Suzuki san and his colleagues, from car arriving to parking and escorting me to the front lobby and guides to the hotel and the room. We were very pleased with the courtesy extended and all the assistance/information provided. Dinner was nicely arranged by Suzuki san and was prepared by Chef Ishida. The ingredients were freshly prepared and artistically cooked by Chef Ishida. Thanks to all the staff of the hotel, restaurant and gorgeous designed room, we had a wonderful memory. We will definitely come back again.

My friend and I stayed in Gora Karaku for 2 nights about a week ago.

The onsen ryokan only opened in early October 2020 so everything was still very new during our stay.

There’re 3 buildings with the rooms in the Guest Room Building and the restaurants and other facilities in the Main Building and the Annex. But it wasn’t difficult to find my way.

We’d a Western style deluxe room in the East Wing. The room was tastefully decorated and spacious (about 56 square meters) with a view of the valley. There’re an open-air hot springs bath and all the modern amenities. The beds were very comfortable and the sound insulation was very good so we slept very well.

Even though there’s an in-room hot springs bath, we visited the public bath a couple of times. The view from there was spectacular.

We’d traditional Japanese kaiseki dinner in Mutsuki in the first night. The food wasn’t as good as I hoped. In particular, the sashimi was mediocre at best. Fortunately, the teppanyaki dinner which we’d in Tomura in the second night was so much better. So, I recommend teppanyaki dinner if you only stay 1 night in Gora Karaku. For breakfast, I preferred the Japanese breakfast to the Western one after trying both.

Needless to say, the service was very professional.

I recommend Gora Karaku. If time and budget allow, I suggest you stay 2 nights there in order to fully enjoy the facilities and experience. The Gora train station is only a 3-minute walk away. You can explore the surrounding areas easily.

Amazing 2 day stay, think you need two days to slow down.
Room huge and outdoor balcony with private onsen perfect
Be mindful that dinner is either 5 pm or 7 pm time slots. We were offered 745 which is way too late for us
Request your slot after booking
Also some bookings only go to main dining room. There is the Grill teppanyaki restaurant, we were unaware that our booking didn’t include this, without extra charge. That’s if you book with a third party like booking.com. Our dinners and breakfast were both Japanese and were perfect. They will offer you extras for a price but you don’t need.
Hotel lounge open from 7-11 and 2 to 8 with free wine, beers and some whiskey plus snacks, great place to get coffee post breakfast
Public onsen amazing views and facilities
We only ventured out to the mind blowing sculpture park
This is a beautiful hotel, well worth the cost to recharge

Best in class experience ar this onsen hotel. Found this hotel thru a taiwanese influencer, and decided to give it a try.
Room had a view of the mountains and partially of the sea, had a lounge for use mostly all day, breakfast and dinner is part of the package. Amazing food and I was truly intrigued by the hotel service and food.

Went for the private hot spring and it was amazing. Huge room, comfortable bed, nice western setting that doesn’t look scary.
The outdoor onsen is enough for two (a little crowded but that’s fine) and they have a few Yukata and obi to select from. Like all other hot spring hotel, food was plenty and they kept you full all day with two meals.
There are free snacks and coffee in the morning & evening outside breakfast and dinner hours if you need some bites.

We had the best time at KARAKU for two nights on our honeymoon. We enjoyed our spacious rooms and the private balcony Onsen. The hospitality is incredible and we enjoyed the fresh pajamas and kimono every day. The food was the best part. We had the best meals of our lives here. In particular, our dinner at the grill was absolutely incredible. The location is beautiful and easily walkable to gora station where you can access the rope way to lake ashii and catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. Highly recommend for a couple looking to relax in the mountains and experience the luxurious side of Japanese culture.

Beautiful recent hotel. Large rooms with terrace and nice private onsen. Very comfy beds. Good shower. Nice lobby with free drinks at some snacks till 7pm. Excellent Japanese diner ! Largest table in Japanese restaurant is 4 seats, so larger families do have to sit on different tables. Good breakfast.
Very nice open air public onsen : 2 different onsen where the men and women side do change every day; so you have the chance to try them both
Very helpful staff.

Loved this hotel! It’s part Ryokan and part traditional hotel. I found it a good mix for the comfort of what you know, with a large splash of the famous Ryokan style. I travel for a living and have been to Japan multiple times. I also put a lot of research into my hotel choices, and this is by far one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in. We stayed two amazing nights with meals included.

1. Location: Gora is definitely the city to stay in and this hotel is just two blocks from the Tozan Train station in Gora. This scenic train takes you to and from the main Odawara station. Seamless with the “Free Pass.” Also next to the train station is the cable car which is part of the large multi-transportation tourist loop around Hakone. Cable car to ropeway to boat to bus (or you can hike) back to Gora.

2. Rooms: they have a lot of similar looking options, but we stayed in the “Karaku Room Japanese Style” room in the East wing. This style of rooms are all on the 5th floor in the better (East) wing. The floors only have a few rooms and every room faces the same direction. The view itself is an unobstructed Mountain View! I spent the majority of my stay sitting in my private Onsen on the balcony and looking at this spectacular view. Rooms are beautiful with western beds.. I’m not exactly sure what the Japanese/Western room style difference is. This is a newer hotel and very clean. I expect it to rise in the Trip Advisor rankings once it has more history.

3. Food: omg the food. It was Michelin quality! We did the food plan for 2 breakfast and 2 Grill dinners. It’s more expensive, but do the Grill Course (teppanyaki) in the Tomura restaurant. Both nights the food was to die for! You will get Kobe beef both nights for one of your 7 courses. They did seem to serve all first night guests one meal and second night guests another meal. Second night was more beef oriented and the winner. We chose the Japanese style breakfast in Mutsuki Restaurant. Amazing! And I’m not sure why, but both mornings we got our own little room with sliding door and window to beautiful water feature outside. Other guest were in the open traditional restaurant section. Was it because we stayed in their more expensive room? No idea.

4. Last but not least… you wear a traditional Yukata everywhere in the hotel! Even to breakfast and dinner! Definitely added a bit of fun and brings back in that traditional Ryokan touch.

A very bad experience, impolite staff and difficult communication, for the price but don't get the service
The rooms are great, but not for the service and food. Compare with other options at the same price, this is a bit disappointing 😞😞😞
