The room was nicely presented and quite large and this hotel is a good option to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Sleeping on futons on the tatami-matted floor was comfortable and fun. The room did not have a toilet but it was not a problem. The room also had a nice view of the river and it was nice to... More

We had a very big room that was clean and nice, though no toilet inside. This hotel has seen better days and could be even nicer with a little loving care. The biggest problem is the staff that speaks very bad english though they have many foreign guests. Not pleasing at all. Dinner and breakfast served in a big room,... More

We stayed for 2 nights in the Ashigara room, which was a traditional tatami room. It was a good size overlooking the river and the futon was surprinsgly comfortable - although 2 nights was probably enough. The best thing about our room was our private hot spring open air bath, which was pure bliss. This is a great place to... More

Ichinoyu Honkan is a lovingly maintained 400 year old inn. We stayed two nights in the Kintoki room, a corner room overlooking the river, which sounded like Niagara Falls. I thought I had booked a small Japanese room with private bath, but the room was actually quite large. The main room, covered in tatami mats, was furnished with a low... More

It was my first onsen experience, and we were glad we choose this ryokan. We stayed in the large Japanese style room with internal onsen bath on 3rd floor. The large balcony has a great view of the river, where you can relax on the sofa with tea. (The downside is that the sound of the water flow is not... More

Good location and close by the bus and train station. You will find your name on the signboard at the hotel main entrance. We stayed at the Japanese style room with small private bathtub and washlet in our room for one night. They provide the Yukata for the kid and also the amenity but you have to manage the futon... We are now 15 days in Japan so have seen quite a few Ryokans. This is definitely the worse we have seen so far. Old but without the grace, other than one or two rooms the view is limited, the river inaccessible and the Onsens are indoors and quite pathetic. We enjoyed good Ryokans in other areas to understand how... More

I came to this ryokan 9 years ago with a girlfriend and loved it so much that I was determined to stay here again with my husband on our honeymoon. The ryokan has aged a bit, but it's still charming and peaceful. The room was quite large, and we had enough space to store our bags. The toilet was very... More

My wife and I stayed at this ryokan for 2 nights... it was a beautiful setting and an overall great experience. We loved the large tatami-floor room, private onsen, friendly and helpful staff, and amazing food. We also had a view of mountain trees and a rushing river right outside our window (beautiful although a little noisy if you're a... More

Rooms were fairly spacious although i suppose the layout was a little queer. Reasonably clean although room lighting was fairly dim. The hotel placed us in a room just nxt to the stream so one cld hear the sound of water flowing which added to the relaxing atmosphere. Food served at the dining area was great & in generous portions,... More
