For a second time I am staying at a ryokan and again I fail to appreciate the pleasure. That is, assuming you are looking for a place to stay rather than have a night in the museum adventure. First of all, the whole place is cold like a meat locker. This is January, you know. In the room you have...

We stayed in a traditional room at the Nikko Tokanso and it was fine for our requirements and the breakfast was very good. Staff were also very helpful and the location is unbeatable being in easy walking distance of the major temples and attractions. That said, the room was in need of an update and paint although very clean. We...

Booked through Booking.com, price was reasonable which included transfer to and from train station, dinner and breakfast. This is a traditional ryokan so expect a old and cozy feeling. Location is great as it is situated near the tourist attractions. We were welcomed by the friend "Pepper" robot. Service by the front desk lady was great. Just a note that...

Nice, relatively large ryokan, ours had private toilet, sink. shuttle from station. walking distance from all the major attractions and they gave us a walking map. Allow time for your scheduled meals, they're worth it. We traveled with our 2 young kids, and they have a private family onsen you can book. We visited in November, and was a bit...

The place is around 5 min walk from Toshogu shrine (a steep 5 min climb from the main road). The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and rather big with windows overlooking the green trees outside. I was happy to find out there's a private toilet in the room and as long...

An older establishment but well preserved. The front office staff speak enough English to help with all practical matters. The room was spacious and typical of a Ryokan in layout. The onsen is large and the outdoor bath was a particular treat. The most amazing thing was the food. We didn't realise our dinner was included so this was a...

I arrived kind of late due to a mishap with my GPS but it was before dinner and the staff were very accommodating. I arrived by motorcycle and because it was going to rain they offered for me to bring my bike in the lobby. Super cool. I paid extra for the dinner and breakfast and I recommend you do...

1st time in Japan and we wanted to have a "traditional" experience, so we decided to spend 2 nights in Nikko...it was the closest place we can get to via the bullet train which we also wanted to experience. Communications with the hotel from the US was kinda spotty and we were not sure if they got our request to...

We went straight to Nikko after we had touched down at Haneda Airport in June 2016, so we were not sure what time we would arrive Nikko and thus not able to book a pick-up from the train station. But when we arrived at Tobu Nikko station, I saw a guy holding a flag with this hotel’s name, so with...

We loved this ryokan. It's older and could use some cosmetic upgrades, perhaps, but our room was huge, the service was very good, and the food was amazing. We stayed two nights and would happily have stayed another. Most of the guests when we were there were Japanese, through there were a few foreign guests, too. While we were downstairs...
