This ryokan locates by the bridge and river in Kinugawa Onsen. The place is good size, not too big like many ryokan so you feel more private. Onsen here is well maintained. There are two bath halls, each with outdoor bath. As in many onsen, they alternate each bath hall for gentlemen and ladies. Our group had Kaiseki dinner and it was quite good.

Stayed here for one night and was not disappointed! It was well priced for the room we had. The onsen's were a little tired however they had all the essentials, great amenities and the baths themselves were fantastic! They had multiple indoor baths and each side of the hotel had the outdoor rotenburo baths also. Each day the baths are rotated for males and females so you don't miss out on seeing any of them. The rooms were incredibly spacious and comfortable. Kinugawa was a sleepy little town that did not have many places open at night, however there are little eateries open, close to hotel as well as the standard convenience store down the street and the train station was a mere 5 minutes walk away. As a little disclaimer Kinugawa park hotels is still a traditional Japanese-style ryokan, so people with tattoos are not able to bathe in the onsens. Overall our stay was very pleasant and all staff were very accommodating and kind. Would recommend!

This hotel is not located in Nikko city. It's located in the Kinugawa onsen town that away from Nikko around 30 minutes by train.
The hotel is just 5 minutes walk from Kinugawa onsen station.

Lovely staff, wonderful onsen. Traditional Japanese room and adorable yukata made you feel very much in a typical Japanese ryokan despite the modern building.

The breakfast and dinner have to book in advance. You cannot decide after check-in.
So, we don't have the experience of the food of this hotel.

I had booked a 2nights stay at this hotel based on the reviews, however, it was a shockingly bad experience. My wife is japanese, and i have stayed at many hotels, ryokans in japan. This rates as one of the worst. This hotel had rave reviews, and a seemingly long history, but that is where it ends.

1) Check-in took a long time as there were many tour groups checking in. Apparently it is a popular hotel for tour groups. Hence, if you are looking for a quiet relaxing stay at a hotel. This is not it !

2) After i went to the room, the usual japanese hospitality of serving you tea whilst explaining the amenities of the hotel was carried out. The chair i sat on "zaisu" broke when i leaned back on it. What was going on ? Everything in the room was old and dated, and hinted of an old smell.

3) The bath in the room was another horror story. I was told that it would take some time for the hot water to come because the hotel was old....but after 2hrs of leaving the tap running...nothing came out but cold water.

4) Dinner - The food was cold and nothing fanciful. The worst thing is that they served you dinner in this big assembly hall. Makes you feel like you are eating in a school canteen. Me and my wife just left halfway through the meal.

5) Onzen - From the photos, i was expecting a nice onsen bath. But, like a i mentioned before...this hotel catered for tour groups...and the bath was packed...and dirty. My wife complained that there were those muscle sticky patches littered in the bath. How bad can it get ?

So, all in all, it was a terrible experience. We complained to the manager and managed to cancel the next night at the hotel and got a partial refund.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are many other better choices around.

I hope this helps!

Hugely disappointed at the quality of the rooms - run down, dark and damp.
We requested 2 non-smoking rooms but both rooms smell of smoke.
The Park Cottage rooms are in fact motel-style rooms (with fold-up chairs !) located a long way down a wet, mossy and slippery path away from the main hotel reception area.
We were so unhappy with the rooms that as soon as we checked in we asked to check out after our first night - the manager refused to offer a refund for the other prepaid nights.

Great ryokan with beautiful ancient japan style, the food was extremely delicious, and have English speaker staff that will help you everything. Excellent. I'll stay here again if i back to japan. Nice

Our name on the board at reception was a nice touch for the 4 rooms we had booked for 3 nights, but the decor in our room is certainly was a little less welcoming.
The linens seemed modern but the rest of the room could do with a total renovation - although our view from the cottage windows was lovely over the river.
During our stay there was only 2 staff who were able to assist us with translation and they were very nice, everyone else was able to provide a friendly smile.
We didn't use the onsens & breakfast was of the traditional Japanese style onl.
If you are looking for dinner options please plan in advance as the Hotel does not offer anything, or so they told us, and the town looks closed down by about 7pm (we were a group of 7). Apparently the Karaoke bars within walking distance are a good place to get a feed but we didn't know about that until after we had bought our 2 minute noodles from 7/11 on the last night!

Actually I booked Kinugawa Park Cottage. However, it is under renovation when I visited. So I was moved to Kinugawa Kirakukan instead which is much better. The staff is very helpful even they cant speak English. The room is fantastic. Breakfast are also great. The location is in walking distance from Kinugawa-onsen station and there is one minimart nearby the hotel, very convenient.

The staffs are helpful with all our request.

The room that we stayed was big and comfortable with nice toilet.

Around 8 mins walk from Kinugawa-Onsen station.

The onsen was acceptable with good facilities.

You come here to enjoy the onsen. Pleasant location overlooking a rushing stream. We had a car so moving around the area was not too difficult.

Rooms were comfortable enough, but the fixtures and fittings had seen better days. The staff had no problem supporting non-Japanese speakers.

Meals were very good and both time and care was taken to explain to us the various ritual components.
