The interior is unique with a lot of wood and stone throughout in a modern style (not rustic). Our river view room was lovely. The bath in the room uses fresh water, not onsen water. This is good because the onsen's water has strong sulfur smell.
There were power outlets all over the room including built into the sitting area's sofa. Most people drive so be aware that the entrance is in the back of the building. It is one of the first lanes on the left before you reach the main T junction that is the entrance to the Chuzenji area.

This newest of Japan’s Ritz Carlton’s luxury properties exudes understated, personalised, sophistication and exemplary service throughout.
The design in its scrupulous attention to detail is contemporary and superbly finished.
The service is meticulous with every member of staff not only knowing your name but going out of their way to please.
In many ways unique to Japan’s fairly amorphous sub-standard luxury hotel portfolio vested in a 90’s era portfolio, the bar here is raised exponentially.
A special call-out for guest relations manager Estelle!
If there’s one omission it’s an outdoor pool. (Which if adults only would resonate with its likely clientele.)
I’ll be back! Meanwhile, if the slated Ritz opening in Niseko this season matches these standards, I’m first in line!

Nearly brand new hotel offering everything you expect from a five star hotel. Very nice view. Very nice design. Excellent and professional staff. Very polite. We took the 57 m² room. The room is relatively long and due to this feels narrow which is not the case. It just doesn’t feel so big but is absolutely (and more than) sufficient.

To make it absolutely perfect the water in the coffee maker would be filled up and the cable plugged into the power outlet. But this is really not I must have but nice to have.

Our 5 night stay was amazing! This hotel and area just beautiful and the surroundings are so peaceful. We had some of the best service ever during our stay.

The hotel is so modern with all natural features overlooking Lake Chūzenji. You almost feel like you are in a movie living the superhero life.

This is the only Ritz Carlton in the world that has an onsen which my wife really enjoyed. It has indoor and outdoor sections.

It was my daughters 3rd birthday and Azumi decorated the bed with lots of balloons and het favorite Anpanman characters. My daughter was so happy.

Masa the GM has an incredible team including Taka who welcomed us at Titanium Elite members upon arrival and made sure we received a nice upgrade. There were some delicious snacks in the room including some of the best strawberries ever.

Yuki and Yuka were always looking out for us and checking if we needed anything since we were traveling with our 3 year old daughter and 8 month old boy. The kids were treated like royalty.

Nozomi from housekeeping was always as quick as her name to deliver anything we needed to the room.

When I opened a hallway window by accident and couldn't close it, Sato came to the rescue.

Mr. Doi and Khadka at the bar were always fun to talk to while having a one of their amazing cocktail creations. My favorite was the Nature Skin.

I can't remember everyone's name but all the staff from the door greeters to the ladies that take you to your room to the restaurant employees are fantastic. I wish all hotels had people like this working for them.

Arigatou gozaimasu for the incredible once in a lifetime experience we had.

The new Ritz-Carlton Nikko marks a next level of hospitality for the area. My room overlooked the lake and mountains, and waking up to the misty scenic landscape that has both gems is definitely very special. You will especially have the feeling of staying at a resort in the evening when someone comes to light your room’s candle on the balcony, where you can really relax to the peaceful surroundings over a bottle of wine. It’s perfect for those who need a sense of calm and to get away from the city for a few days.

Nikko is a spiritual place, and the hotel being on the holy mountain there is no shortage of activities in nature and visiting historic temples. The hotel also has really exclusive experiences in the area, that even impressed a travel designer such as myself!

The Lakehouse is really a brilliant concept and I can’t wait to go back already, even for those not staying at the hotel, they can have a little European style siesta with great food and wine by the lake.

The Onsen is probably the best hot spring in a luxury hotel in Japan. The quality of the water is tops. I even went to the source of the hot spring to see where it came from!

Just came back from our 2 nights family trip at Ritz-Carlton Nikko.

The room was very nice, the view of the lake and the mountain were awesome.

There are very few restaurants around the hotel, so it is advisable to make your dining reservations at the same time you book. (very very pricy though)

On the first day, we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant. To be honest, the service and food were not very good for the expensive price. Especially the service, I think it should be better if you are charging the same price as a 5 star hotel in Tokyo. We also had breakfast at a Japanese restaurant and the service there was very good, and we ate at the Lake House on the second night and the service and taste were excellent. Only the Japanese dinner was a disappointment.

The hot spring was nice, but there were two people taking pictures in the open-air bath all the time, even though it was forbidden to take pictures, which made me very uncomfortable.

I think it's a very nice hotel, but everything is overpriced and not worth the price. It's fine if you're staying there with Marriott points, but it's not a hotel I'd want to stay in with my own money.

全体的には満足ですが次回もお金を払ってまで宿泊するかというと疑問です。
マリオットボンヴォイのオフピークで泊まるならまだありかと思います。

This was our first visit to Nikko with our two teenage children and we were truly impressed with the Ritz Carlton. The hotel is brand new, with a modern design, peppered with beautiful artwork throughout. The Lobby, looking out onto the garden next to the lake was light and airy. We had two interconnecting rooms which were spacious, modern and comfortable. The food in the Japanese restaurant was beautifully presented and delicious. Although we visited during one of the busiest festivals and there were many guests in the hotel, it always felt serene and zen. The onsen is open from 5 am and the water quality was good. Service was exquisite. The hotel provided 2 types of high end electric bicycles for guests’ leisure (mountain and city bikes). We loved our stay and cannot wait to visit again.

Style.
Japanese minimalism yet magnificent and luxurious

Setting.
Stunning Lake Chuzenji, at 4163 feet altitude and 534 feet deep — Bragging rights as highest natural lake in Japan

Explore.
Nikko’s shrines and beyond ….Tochigi. Two of my most memorable trips to Japan were in Tochigi.

Rooms.
Room 422. Room faced Daiya river with a partial lake and torii shinto gate view. Impressive mini bar with Gaya wine and Ruinart champagne. Bathroom designed so that you can make the soaking tub a semi outdoor sanctuary. My only regret was not being here for another night

@ the hotel.
Tranquil and gorgeous minimalist newer hotel opened 2020. Indoor outdoor onsens. The outdoor onsen had lovely healing milky onsen water, is drained and scrubbed clean daily between 12-2 pm

Food & drinks.
Kaiseki dinner at the Japanese restaurant. Pretty decent meal but had better kaiseki in other Tochigi hotels/ryokans

Prices.

I really enjoyed dinner with my friends at The Bar during my visit at The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko. From being greeted by name throughout dinner at the bar, which I felt very special. The drinks and food were beyond our expectations! My favorite was definitely the Katsu Sando!
All staffs are friendly and always fulfill even our unexpressed wishes, especially Mr. Fujisaki, Mr.Doi, Mr. Khadka, Ms. Juri Mr. Daiki were always looking for ways to help us with exceptional hospitality. Great ambience and amazing staffs!
I would absolutely recommend this hotel and bar!
Cannot wait till my next visit and try the cheesecake that the front office ladies were mentioning :)

Despite of the price (1,900 USD per night include spa for 2 persons, Kaiseiki Dinner, Breakfast and some refreshments), I had great time and relax experiences here. Attentive service, completed information and flexible offers (by chance) to change from double to King size bed. The view was amazing, I could enjoy some walks around Lake Chuzenji area.
Something to consider …
1) If you drive, you should be at moderate or advance to drive up/down the mountains.
2) Booking is required for everything because you may not get the time you prefer e.g spa, dinner or even breakfast.
3) Less flexibility to change any request due to lot of guests.
4) Hotel won’t accommodate to book other restaurant outside hotel. The staffs try to provide some information but it does not make sense.
