Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are traveling by car then consider this hotel. You'll need a car to get to anything including a convenience store. The hotel has a mini shop with some food stuffs that are priced similar to a 7-11.
There is a pre-paid wine server with reasonable wine but the hassle of getting a card activated and then charged isn't worth it.
Keep in mind that the room is not large but I thought the layout with sliding walls made it feel spacious.

If all you want is a comfortable room and you don't require any food, a gym or other services or amenities, this hotel is an acceptable choice. It is new and the lobby and guest rooms are attractively designed. The location is two kilometers away from central Nikko, including the Toshogu Shrine but it feels quite isolated and there are no restaurants or stores within walking distance. The hotel has no restaurant or gym so to eat breakfast, it is necessary to drive two kilometers into the city. I wouldn't stay in this hotel unless you have a car and even then, I would prefer to stay in a hotel that serves breakfast.

The Fairfield by Marriott Tochigi Nikko offers a peaceful and comfortable stay, boasting a relatively new building with well-maintained public spaces that set the stage for relaxation. The accommodations stand out for their comfort, especially the quality of the beds, ensuring a restful night's sleep.

The hotel offers reasonable value, marked by the provision of complimentary coffee in the morning. However, it's worth noting that the hotel lacks a comprehensive breakfast service, though food can be purchased near the reception.

The hotel’s location is not ideal for those wishing to visit Nikko's main attractions without a bit of travel.

Fabulous hotel. No complaints at all rooms, staff, accommodation etc perfect. Much of my review mirrors others, issues being: 1. Only snack food purchased on site (card only payment) or buy food in Nikko and reheat in kitchen to eat at Lobby tables. 2. Location, if walking only (25 min uphill walk, take torch at night). Nikko itself doesn't have many restaurants to eat of an evening (at least at this time of year anyway). However, I can wholly recommend Restaurant Mako (which IS open on evening), it isn't on the main street but essentially 2 streets directly behind 'Family Mart'. Delicious and good value. We had Chicken Katsu (breast chicken ... no fat ... just lovely and very tasty). Menu all in Japanese but we got by with a simple phrase book. You won't be disappointed.

We loved this hotel regardless of the need to get a taxi 800-900 yen from the station (2kms mostly uphill). Rooms are standard western size with Japanese decor very attractive. There is no restaurant at this hotel though you can purchase microwaveable food and snacks from reception for the sit down self-service dining area. Instant coffee and teas and soup are free 24 hours also there is an ice machine. The staff at the hotel are very kind and helpful especially Mieyu the lovely lady on reception who was kind and full of information and a mix-up on room servicing was sorted by Mieyu immediately a great staff member. Coin slot washing machines available.

Comfortable room . Staff are friendly . Need a car to get here as it’s quite a distance from the train station . You can choose breakfast in the package but it’s not worth it. It was about 5 degrees in the morning and we were looking for hot breakfast but the bento box they give as breakfast is rather cold. I would recommend to just buy your breakfast somewhere else (like at the train station) . Otherwise no complaints. The rooms are not big enough for 3 persons so you need to book 2 rooms . If you book a king room and twin room then you have a chance at getting a connecting room. The design of the hotel is nice and clean .

The hotel is new and quite nice for a Fairfield. The only signs it's not one of the better Marriott brands is no lotion or hair conditioner. Staff is very nice and tries to help. But, as noted there's no restaurant. I understand if they are not able to staff a full restaurant but then at least they need to provide decent alternatives. There is alcohol, but the "market" doesn't offer much beyond instant noodles. Breakfast was better. The microwaved frozen French toast was surprisingly good, but the brown liquid provided as coffee was dire. There was a poor woman out in the parking lot in the cold selling food.

Then there's the transportation. In theory there is a public bus but in the two days I was there I never saw one. Post-pamdemic, taxi service was very limited. I waited a half hour in front of the train station when I arrived from Tokyo. Since you have to go into town to eat (unless you buy something and eat in your room), this is a big problem if you don't have your own transport. At a minimum they should provide a regular shuttle service to town. They should at least be able to manage that.

Wonderful hotel and great hospitality! Incredibly kind and warm to a foreigner with inefficient Japanese. The staff provided great recommendations and assistance us with activities reservations. Room was immaculate and the shower was fantastic. We had a great room with a view of the mountain. Hotel is with walking distance of an amazing Wagyu beef restaurant and great cafes. About 5 minutes car ride outside main street and roughly 10 minutes to UNESCO world Heritage site. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What not to like this hotel? Hardly anything! The hotel is only 1 year old and the room is very well designed. The size of room is big for Japanese and even some European standards! The bed and pillows are so comfortable, nice water pressure for the shower etc etc.

The location yes it is not right in the town but giving the comfortableness, quiet good night sleep I would stay at this hotel. The hotel is a good 20-25 mins downwards slope walk to the main town or 30-35 mins around the hills (totally safe and enjoyable walk if the weather is good) to the main shrine. I wouldn’t walk back to the hotel as it is an upward walk BUT you can easily catch a taxi in front the Tobu Nikko station for ¥900-1000.

The hotel staff are super friendly even some might not speak a lot English but they are super helpful. The ground floor lobby area has self-service free tea and coffee area is lovely too.

Yes there is no breakfast (but you can preorder 4 days in advance, come in a box). I would just buy something from the town the night before, east!

I also used the laundry room which inexpensive and easy.

Last not but not the least I was actually impressed by the microwave food sold by the hotel! Japanese quality! This is Japanese version of Fairfield which you don’t get anywhere else but Japan! Love it!
