Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location for linking up with the train. The room was pretty comfortable but on the small side but with plenty of amenities. Although booked a non-smoking room there was a little stale smoke smell. A 711 next door too.

It's in a quiet part of the city center, so it was easy to find and I could sleep well at night. I checked in a bit on the early side, but minutes later, Ms. Shiromizu at the front desk politely showed me to my room. I'm glad I was able to relax in my room starting in the afternoon. It was raining on my first day, so I went to the science museum next door, and at night, I went to Amu Plaza for dinner and indulged in a feast. On the second and third days, after coming back from my day trips, there were fresh towels that the maid had hung on the front of my door, which helped wonders. There's a Seven-Eleven next to the hotel, but there are also vending machines selling soft drinks, alcohol, and snacks inside the building, so if you don't feel like going outside, you can eat and drink in the middle of the night without a problem. I ate breakfast at the restaurant on the first floor every morning, and I was grateful for the various set meal options and complimentary drink bar that let me depart with a full belly. Compared to check-in, there was something about check-out that didn't feel quite right, but it was passable. After checking out, I left my luggage at the front desk and took a stroll around town, and because the hotel is right by the station, I could return to fetch my luggage right before boarding a train and heading home. For guests who will frequently use the trains in Miyazaki City, I cannot recommend this place enough!

The hotel is located in a very convenient location, about a 2-minute walk from Miyazaki Station. The size of the rooms, the interior design, and the bathrooms are almost the same as those of other business hotels, and there is nothing unique about this hotel, but guests who are used to this style of hotel will not be inconvenienced. The bathrooms in business hotels are usually old and dirty in minor ways, but this hotel is almost entirely clean and has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. There is a restaurant on the first floor of this hotel and a convenience store outside. There are a few restaurants around the hotel, but they are not as numerous as the west exit of Miyazaki station. You may have trouble finding a place to eat, especially at night, but it's a quieter place to spend your time with less noise. I would recommend this hotel as a place to stay in Miyazaki for both business and pleasure.

We partly chose the Richmond Hotel because it had a parking lot. But in the end if offered so much more. The staff were exceptional. I had a problem with my credit card and they allowed me to call my bank in Canada, without charge, to sort things out. This was very kind of them. Our rooms were at the end of the hallway and they were nicely laid out, bigger than many Japanese hotel rooms and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel is located close to the station, near a couple of convenience stores and within walking distance, if you're a keen walker, to many places to eat and drink. We did a daytrip to Aoshima and thoroughly loved that. Such a great place and very lovely little community. The Devil's Washboard is not to be missed. Would be a great town to spend a night at! We enjoyed returning to the Richmond Hotel each day and thank the staff very much for their kind, thoughtful service.

Although we only stayed one night we were impressed. Parking at a small cost for our rental car and well located for the JR station for a trip to Aeoshima. Had a lovely breakfast at a nearby coffee shop with serious good coffee and it opened at 8.00am. Lovely flat white on the menu a boon for all from Australia and NZ. Would stay at the Richmond again, very efficient and unusually generous sized rooms. Kawkona Coffee shop and street

We arrived at the west side of Miyazaki station by highway bus from Beppu and just had to walk through the station to the east side, from where the Richmond Hotel is clearly visible. The train tracks are elevated, so crossing the station at ground level is very easy. We crossed the road to the hotel. The ground floor is shared with the hotel's restaurant and a hairdressing salon. An escalator took us up one floor to reception. Check in was swift and efficient. Within a few moments our passports had been copied, our payment had been taken by the check-in machine, which also issued our room keys, breakfast coupons had been handed to us and we had been escorted to the lift. Our suitcases, sent on from Fukuoka the previous day, had already been placed in our room. As we were staying for 7 nights we had booked a larger room. This was on the 9th floor and had a pleasant view that included the Space and Science Museum, with its observatory roof - and a 40-metre rocket! The room was well-equipped with trouser press, phone charging cables, fridge, nightshirts, toiletries, tea and coffee. The TV included the English language NHK World channel. If you indicate that you are happy not to have the sheets changed daily, bottles of water will be left for you by the efficient housekeeping staff. This was our first visit to Miyazaki and we found the Richmond Hotel's location ideal. Next door was a neat and tidy 7-11. Tourist information staff in the nearby station provided us with detailed travel information for local buses. Aoshima is easily visited by train or bus. Most local and highway buses go from the west side of the station but frequent buses to the Aeon Mall (the largest in Kyushu) depart from the Richmond Hotel side of the station. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. As this part of Kyushu is sub tropical, we shouldn't have been surprised to find fresh mango and mango juice on the buffet. Local specialities included delicious fried chicken with vinegar sauce, small fried fish, and a cold cucumber miso soup. The pickled plums were large and juicy. In addition to the usual items of morning curry, vegetables, Japanese omelette, salad, etc, there was a comprehensive selection of western items: scrambled eggs, small sausages, bacon, hash browns, and croissants. The coffee machine produced good coffee. In Miyazaki we looked forward to breakfast each morning. There were two coin laundry machines and two coin dryers in the hotel. I didn't understand the instructions but, putting the clothes in, closing the lid, and inserting 200 yen produced a washed load in 30 minutes. The dryers cost 100 yen for 30 minutes. On previous stays at Richmond hotels we have borrowed an iron and board but in Miyazaki we found the same-day laundry service for shirts and blouses was reasonably priced and efficient. We usually send our luggage on separately to our next hotel. However, as we were travelling by highway bus to Kumamoto where the bus stop was just a short level walk from our next hotel, we were able to check out and wheel our cases out of the hotel and through the station to the highway bus.

Convenient for customers who drive as they offer parking space with a charge. Vicinity to Miyazaki station as well. The room is comparatively spacious with other hotel rooms in Japan. Staff are nice too, one of them can speak Japanese, English and Mandarin fluently. Also convenient to use machine for check in and check out.

It's a very convenient location for a whole family. So you don't need to walk too far from the JR station with child and elderly. The room is tidy and clean. The staff is nice and tried to explain in English.

I’ve lived years in Japan and I’ve never stayed in a Richmond Hotel as I am big chain-aversive. But, I would gladly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Japan. It was clean, convenient, and reasonably-priced. The staff was also helpful and friendly. The remote was bilingual and there was a special programming selection specifically for foreign visitors in the TV menu. There was also a free rental smartphone for foreign visitors to take and use and bring back without being stranded somewhere they’ve never been (I didn’t need to use it, but the thought was nice). Our booking came with a bottle of local shochu spirit which helped us pass our evening, we also received special amenities of our choice for women. The breakfast buffet was decent and included regional specialties. My favorite part was probably the mango juice.

Location is definitely superb. Just one minute walk outside Miyazaki JR station. Room size is ok. Free coffee available in lobby level. Good receptionist, very helpful. Absolutely a good value for money choice.
