We had planned to stay here Dec 2020 but Covid delayed it until now. There is a shuttle but during this time, there were only two times that it was picking up at the airport. Unfortunately we arrived at a time when the shuttle was not running so we had to take a taxi which was about 30 min ¥4000.

We were the only ones checking it so it was very quick. We were given a coupon to use in the gift shop for a 10% discount and at all the restaurants for a 20% discount during our stay. There was a welcome drink in the lobby with three different juices to choose from.

We dropped off our luggage and went to check out the facilities. The outdoor pool just opened on April 1st so we were happy to know that.

The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have had in Japan. There was a variety of food to choose from and you can eat indoors or outdoors. If you sit outdoors, you have to cover your plate with a plastic cover so the birds don’t get to it.

We had dinner at all three of their restaurants and they were all very good. There was enough to choose from so you can have something different every night.

Not sure if it was corona that made the hotel poor or not. The staff at Grandvrio were few and low energy. No one greeted us and getting help always seemed to be an inconvenience for them. Also Hotel is dated - lockers breaking etc. the room was nice enough. Food hours are short. No beach. Pool is small.

We spent one day at Fusaki resort and the difference was clear. There the staff was full of energy, food was good and quick, and the beach was great.

I would not stay at Grandvrio again.

We stayed for 2 nights in September / October (our first 3 nights at the ANA Intercontinental Resort - see my other review). We were slightly concerned by the mixed reviews (although there aren't many to judge) but the rate at the ANA jumped steeply for our final 2 days and I booked this via Japanican at a reasonable rate including the very varied and good Japanese style breakfast. This hotel felt like it was more aimed at couples than families. The room had a sea view, but was dark and the furnishings dated, it was a good size and clean - but not as nice as the ANA. The pool is very, very small but the area around it is comfortable although there are very few sunbeds. We also ate in the Hibachi Korean style restuarant which was good and very reasonable value for Ishigaki beef. The hotel location really only works if you have a car - which we did (although parking is a bit chaotic as other reviews mention) and it was a good base to see the other half of the island (from the ANA). We liked having two bases. There is a free shuttle bus to the airport which we also used. There is no beach, and the day we returned our hire car we took the public bus from the port to Fusaki beach - you walk through the Fusaki Resort Hotel to access the beach (we also ate the buffet lunch here which is popular and excellent value). Fusaki beach is sandy and there's a jellyfish net so it's safe to swim. You can also rent a sun lounger. We took a taxi back to the Grandvrio which is inexpensive. Overall if they were the same price I would stay at the ANA Resort although the Grandvrio was quieter. I would rate the ANA 4 and this 3.5.

We loved Ishigaki and are planning our next trip, but we won’t be staying here again. The staff were horrible. They rarely smiled and were rude at check out. It is operated more like a ryokan than a resort. That means you aren’t welcome to hang around in between 11 am to 2 pm because even the gifts shops closed. But without a rental car you are stuck. We didn’t get to swim because of the heavy rain, and for some reason the indoor pool was closed, we were surprised you can’t swim in the beach in front of the hotel too. If you don’t have a rental car, you will be at their mercy and if you want a resort style relaxing holiday I would go somewhere else.

For the price we paid, very disappointing. The bed clothes and bed covers were stained (not badly), the mirrors in the bathroom hadn't been cleaned and the chairs had seen better days. I felt this was probably a fine hotel some years ago when it was most likely better maintained. We changed the first room (2nd floor) to another (3rd floor), which was better but not much.
Upon seeing the first room, I asked to see the manager, and was kept waiting 15 minutes or so because he was busy placating another guest. . .
Compared to resorts in Onna-son or Chatan, where I usually stay, the standard was poor. The staff were friendly and the manager was easy to talk to, but if cleanliness is an issue for you, you would probably be better off staying somewhere else, or perhaps the superior rooms may be better.
I won't be back. There are better, cheaper (non-resort) hotels closer to town. If you want the resort experience in Ishigaki, I would consider ANA or Club med.

My husband and I stayed at the Grandvrio Resort Hotel for 3 nights with two of our friends. The views from the hotel are amazing and you can walk along the waterfront to the lighthouse which was so beautiful to do at sunset.

Check in was easy and straightforward. The rooms are quite dated with a rather uncomfortable bed and pillow (at least by Western standards)! The bathroom had a powerful waterfall shower and a decent sized bath. Breakfast had a good selection but the food quality was average. We ate lunch a couple of times at the on-site restaurant which served pretty tasty Japanese cuisine.

The opening hours of some of the on-site facilities were quite inconvenient. The gift shop, indoor swimming pool, bar and some restaurants tended to shut during core hours such as 12-2pm. We had one day where the weather was a bit rainy and overcast and wanted to spend some time at the hotel but everything was shut. The outdoor swimming pool was quite small for the size of the hotel with only a couple of sun loungers.

We did a snorkeling boat trip to Phantom Island organised through the hotel which was awesome. The water was so crystal clear, it was truly stunning! The tour guides didn't speak any English but that was no issue for us as we really enjoyed the trip regardless.

The hotel definitely has great views of the island but some of the basics are a bit lacking and for that reason we wouldn't stay there again.

Great choice if you don't want to spend $300/night for one of the more luxurious resorts (ClubMed, ANA). Lots of indoor/outdoor amenties (pools, baths, saunas, spa, restaurants). Staff is SUPER nice and helpful. When our luggage didn't arrive on time a female staff member even offered to lend me a bathing suit! No wifi in rooms but when they saw we were disappointed about that they lent us a wifi router. Yakiniku restaurant is great, even for vegetarians! $800 for a huge plate of raw veggies to grill.

Cons:
No beach and boardwalk along water has lots of garbage.
Beds are SUPER hard.
No wifi in rooms.
Dining options are open intermittently (1 for bfast, 1 for lunch, 2 for dinner).
Location is 10 min drive from town ($10 taxi one way) and 30 min from Kabira ($35 taxi one way!). Gets expensive if you don't have a car.

TIPS:
Get an international license before you go and rent a car.
If you don't rent a car take the bus! No one at the hotel recommended the bus but when we took it anyway and it was GREAT! $600 to Kabira one way and you can buy a pass for $10 for 5 days. The trip is just as quick as a taxi. The schedule is intermittent but if you get stuck you can always wait at another hotel restaurant or cafe or take a taxi back, better than taxi both ways.
If you're taking the ferry, schedule a FREE pick up at hotel through Anei Kanko. You have to buy ticket at hotel tour desk first.
Walk down the street to Armoco Italian restaurant, delicious and inexpensive!

We decided to take the plunge and book Grandvrio through Japanican internet site and have no complaints. It's a modern, clean hotel, with a great steak restaurant (Ishigaki beef is a delicacy that's wonderful) as well as a traditional Japanese restaurant. They always had at least 1 English speaker on duty and we were always able to get help for what we need. Room was very good, albeit bed was a bit hard! Umicoza diving picked us up each day and took around 20 mins to get to the shop and then 5 mins to the water - so can really enjoy the Manta rays!

The hotel room is comfortable with penthouse that could have more people staying together. The hotel has car parking and a small outdoor swimming pool. There are indoor activities including table tennis and pool table. Also, it has local tours going to snorkeling at blue cave and speedboat ride. Good for family with young children. However, the downside is that it does not have a beach whereas some other hotels have.

Cons:
- A little out of town
- All on site shops and restaurants close in the vital hours you need them. We learned to live with it but I don't really understand why they do it.
- Wifi only works in rooms which is annoying when the complex is so large

Pros:
- Free shuttle bus from the airport. (BUT the hotel told us the wrong times!!! We arrived at 11am and they said the next bus was at 12.30 so we waited inside, only to find out there was one at 11.30 and the next one was at 1pm, so we wasted so much time and I don't understand why the person told us the wrong times only the day before!!!)
- Free buses into town
- Tours can be organsied from the hotel (but book as soon as you get there, we learnt the water sports book up quickly and wasn't able to jet ski in time!)
- Right next to the beach and waterfront, it was beautiful
- Pools were lovely.
- Appreciated the on site convenience store
- We got an upgraded room due to honeymoon- last place we stayed and first upgrade so we appreciated that.
- Beautiful room, large and big beds. Amazing bathroom with a european size tub and a waterfall type shower. We appreciated this lots!!
- On site restaurants are good considering they're on site. However, I preferred the Japanese 'traditional' cuisine over the BBQ as we felt the BBQ was expensive for what you got portion size wise.

Would recommend here to stay.

Hello, guys. I think the hotel will allow if your tattoos is not so big, like as a small design in one spot. Have you ever seen any Japanese gang movies, or cartoons? Most of Japanese gang,"yakuza" have a big tattoos like as on their back,or whole body.....I think the notice about tattoos in public space is for Japanese,Asian gang, which means anti-gang, anti-organized crime. So maybe your tattoos will be allow in public space. You are not Japanese. Just tourist :) Don't worry, don't be nervous. If you worry about, Almost no people in swimming pool, Indoor and outdoor in the daytime.Japanese and Asian tourist maybe go out, so hotel will be quiet. You can enjoy public bath and pool. Staff in the hotel is nice, and kind. They will help you :) Welcome to Japan, and happy honeymoon!!
