My first visit to Samburu and a great place to spend my nights in. Elephant Watch is an ecological camp with great staff, great service and great home-made food. No air-conditioning required as the tents are airy and tastefully furnished. The elephants roam freely and in the morning my wake-up call was an elephant by the tent... A beautiful sight...

Wonderful in every way. Unique in the connection they have to elephant conservation - really enjoyed this part of the safari, visiting Save The Elephants' centre in Samburu National Reserve. Guides were great, food was wonderful (often it's not at these safari camps!). Would definitely return. Not a short drive from Nairobi (they also offer flight packages) but it was...

The elephant watch camp is one of the most fantastic spots in Kenya. The Warriors/guides are fabulous, know the elephants, and lead excellent hikes and drives. The kitchen prepares fantastic meals, taken on the bank of the river or picnic style while on drives during the day. The tents and beds are very comfortable. The camp is artistic and beautifully...

Safari by its definition suggests an exotic adventure but layer that with warmth of the Samburan people and the Hamilton family and you are in for a safari experience unlike any other. While each animal encounter seemed to surpass the previous - an elephant bulldozing a tree next to my tent as I slept (and leaving his marking for me...

Pen to paper is not sufficient in expressing the extraordinary premise, lodging, service, restaurant and safari you will experience with some of the kindest, most mindful people on earth. You can read about the camp on their website: http://www.elephantwatchsafaris.com/. First, we were deeply honored to have Serenoy as our guide. He is a Samburu Warrior and individual of great intelligence,...

As soon as I discovered that the Douglas-Hamiltons ran a safari camp I was desperate for us to go there to see the elephants researched by "Save The Elephants" for ourselves. And there they were indeed.....literally HUNDREDS of elephants; our very high expectations exceeded before we even got to camp! The guides here know the individual elephants and the elephants...

I absolutely loved staying here! It was so gorgeous, with the Moroccan style fabric designs and friendly staff. The elephant viewing is second to none! The rooms are romantic, with class and style, though...

Wonderful. Sleeping and waking beside the brown-water river, watching the monkeys playing, paddling in the river while the crocs estivate - it's a place we have no right to be in, but we are, thanks to Oria's camp. Small, intimate, with the Samburu as guides and friends. Wonderful from first to last. We'll find a way back, somehow.

Situated in the semi arid North of Kenya, in a land of endless rugged beauty and untamed wilderness, Elephant Watch Safaris has established its camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve. Oria Douglas-Hamilton, together with her husband, Iain, have been associated with elephants for more than 40 years, and have been pioneers in studying the intricate lives of elephants and their intelligent social behaviour. They have brought their scientific studies to the attention of the world, highlighting a well-organised family structure, with a conscious level of emmotions, pain, speech, and protection.
