I booked two rooms, one for hubby and I and the other were for our American friends as we wanted them to enjoy Ipoh's famous foods. We were assigned NON-SMOKING ROOMS and the Management sure knew how to maintain this place. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and have adequate amenities like shampoo, soaps, shower gel and good towels. Our cleaner Seba did her job well and I could not find anything wrong in our room. It was literally spotless! The only niggling little unpleasantry was the use of wifi on two devices only... I was not able to use my laptop until I log out from one and this was cumbersome!

Stay here, don't look at the hotel facade, they have great rooms and very clean. The hotel is just 10 minutes flat walk from Ipoh train station, although it is in the residential area but all the intersting place are within walking distance such as Concubine lane just five minutes walk, the night market just five minutes walk, the memory lane was behind the hotel. The lobby is always locked and you feel secure. You need your keycard to access the lobby and lift. There are few sitting area in lobby but enough space. The second floor are breakfast area. The room was clean, and bright as there are lights everywhere. There is complimentary coffee and tea, fridge and safety box. The bathroom is quite big and the water power was strong with hot water run constantly. There is not place to eat surrounding the hotel area except KFC and Pizza Hut at the left side of hotel (2 minutes walk). If you walk across the street from the lobby into a small lane, you will reach a traditional kopitiam that have plenty of choice to eat, they start at 6 morning until night. The kopitiam has dim sum, seafood noodles, char kue tiau, popiah (night time). Minimarket 7 Eleven just beside the hotel. Considering the affordable price and very centrally located, this hotel is the best option to stay in Ipoh.

We have stayed many many times at the French hotel but things have continued to drop a notch each time we stay.

The service at the front desk continues to be unfriendly, in particular one guy who seldome smiles and looks glum most of the time. The female staff are better.

The hotel room is of average standard, clean and comfortable, but each time we visit, we are missing something. This time, it was the safe that could not work because of a low battery fault, had to call for service. Does anyone check the room. Other than that, all electrical, shower (good pressure) work well.

You would that there would be a welcome gift or something after staying there many times over the last 10 yr, but no. Obvioiusly their customer database is ineffective.

Check in fast, room size quite big, window with side alley (no view).
Wifi connection lousy, can't log in yet every time have to key in long username. Ask staff why can't connect, staff say iPhone login very troublesome
She thought me the trick but keep disconnected, reconnect need to key in long username again. Give up.

Water pot is different type, more like a pot to cook instant noodle.
Pillow too soft, can't sleep well. Bed still comfortable. Sunday morning got flee market, very noisy can't sleep.

The good point is location good, on check in, staff will give you a print out map for foodie. 5-10 mins walking distance to Chef Fatt dim sum (local favourite).

We stayed at the French Hotel for 2 nights. It's a small room, with a king sized bed that was comfortable. There's not much room for other furniture other than a plastic chair. But we weren't in Ipoh to stay in the hotel room all day. The staff were very accommodating when I asked to change rooms due to a noisy electric board in our original room. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the old town and it's myriad of eating options. The road is busy but does quieten down later at night. Ask for a room towards the back if you're sensitive to road noise.

I actually booked directly with the hotel and this was a cause for confusion with the hotel. They dont automatically confirm the appointment and when I emailed them for confirmation they made another booking. Some of the staffs grasp of English is not that high. Once arrived at the hotel sorted it all out. The room was quite good in are with many restaurants. Room cleaned daily in the morning. WiFi was good. The only thing I would suggest they add is a map showing sites around Ipoh. They have a map of restruants but as a tourist was more interested in site seeing. Would dtay again.

We had a room WITH windows (some don't have).
It was a really really confortable and clean room.
The hotel location is top as Ipoh is a small town, you can do everything by foot.
The personnel was great ! Thank you Ipoh Hôtel !

It was our second time here and found it still very good. The staff is friendly. We had a "super deluxe" double room in the back of the building. Still extremely affordable and worth the extra cost. These rooms are very quiet, with a big comfortable bed, and a good walk in shower with a hand- and a rain shower. All very comfortable indeed. The only minus point would be the street that its in. Although its in easy walking distance to old town.

Our 1st stay here was in 2019. Post covid, we decide to stay here again when we visit Ipoh as we had a good experience previously. Upon check in, we are glad the standard is still there. Simple and comfortable boutique hotel. Hotel has a very good policy on safety. Entrance to hotel is only possible with the guest card which we are issued at checkin. Otherwise, you have to bell on and only then the security guard on duty will allow you in. Reception is 24 hrs. Room is clean and comfortable. All basic ammenties are provided like toiletries, hairdryer, kettle, coffee, tea etc. Wifi is strong. Area around it is quite quiet at night. However, many food places are within walking distance such as Nasi Ganja as well as concubine lane. There is a flea market at night nearby. Recommended.

The parking is just 50 meters in front at a proper parking site (for free). Get a voucher from the hotel to display on your dashboard. Alternatively, you may park along the road shoulder on designated parking spots and will be subject to hourly rate parking fees at the designated hours.

There are buses that leave Amanjaya to the city. Not sure if they pass near by to the hotel. You are better to ask the hotel for the number bus. You can take a taxi from Amanjaya to French hotel. The cost is 50 RM

There is laundry service provided however we chose to get our laundry done outside of the hotel as we had a lot. It was very simple and close to the hotel, 3 minute walk. You put in in the morning and get back at 6pm.

Not when we stayed earlier in the year. So you should bring along. If you forget there is a supermarket just down the road.
