We are from Penang but decided to treat ourselves with a staycation at The Blue Mansion just before the MCO. Having eaten at the restaurant Indigo before, we always said we wanted to stay in this historical landmark. I have to say we have no regrets! From the moment we stepped in we were warmly greeted by their staff and SOPs were followed to a T. Our room was spacious and clean and opened directly out to the swimming pool. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard for breakfast, imagining what it might have been like to live back then. Highly recommended!
We stayed for 3 nights at the Blue Mansion in the Nanyang Suite and were blown away by the architecture, service, and grounds of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Hotel guests receive a private tour of the mansion at night, which we took and we taught the history of its original owner as well as the grounds- a nice touch to not have to deal with the crowds during the daily tours for non-guests. Our room was spectacular- high ceilings, a big bathroom, and one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in(still thinking about how good this bed was)! Our room had a door that led directly to the pool, which we used everyday to cool down from the heat between exploring the town. There were also desserts delivered to our door every afternoon that were a very nice treat. Breakfast was above and beyond what you'd expect from a hotel, with both prepared food and a menu to order- perfect. Anyone visiting Penang should experience staying in this historic hotel!…
Undoubtedly a wonderful heritage mansion with friendly service and a lovely team. But the breakfast food is poor (cold and unappetising breakfasts with limited choice). This may be because of the RMCO but would expect a hotel like this to be able to serve hot food - especially when they are asking people to pick it the night before at their current price point. The limited choice matters when it doesn’t change days on end - we ended up going out for better food even though breakfast was included. The housekeeping needs improving: rubbish was not removed from our rooms and coffee/tea not replaced nor any creamer. We ended up buying it. The pool needs cleaning from leaf litter. Overall although a beautiful environment, the experience felt very basic and not what I was expecting given the prices I paid nor the marketing pitch. …
We had enjoyed ourselves in this historical landmark even under current CMCO restrictions. Cheong Fatt Tze Blue Mansion is a landmark in Penang worth to visit even if not staying in the hotel. Outstanding service, food, and environment for those who are used to a VIP treatment. The daily guided tours are worth the 45 minutes visit ending in an enjoyable Pinneapple, Ginger and Lime juice or in the souvenir store. A 100% Feng Shui site the environment in this UNESCO Human Heritage Site provides a peaceful and energizing mood. For those Gourmets aficionados the Índigo restaurante is a 5 star fusion restautant to dine-in. The price is worth the tastes and flavours experienced. If you are able to escape the CMCO.for a moment from the busy KL, this is a must destination in Penang!
- Great customer service from the get-go - loved the nutmeg drink as I checked in. - Attentive and courteous staff which made sure our needs were taken care of. - Wonderful location and building - the architecture and furniture brought back nostalgic memories. - Best mushroom soup I've ever had!
