Stayed in this Riad last October and really enjoyed my experience. My room was GORGEOUS (one floor from the top, view of the other side of the alley only sadly but still super light and airy due to the central staircase open sky roof). If you are anxious about security you might not love it (windows and door open right onto the stairwell and the locks are flimbsy/windows don't really lock). However provided you're not worried about other guests stealing your things (I wasn't) it's fine. The main door downstairs is very secure and there is always someone around looking on as you come and go. Actually I struggled a bit with the key, there's a knack to the front door! The riad itself is very beautiful, very clean, and very bright. The roof terrace is stunning, looking right onto the sea and feels very peaceful despite being located right by the medina. You might struggle to find it (the signage isn't amazing) however the local neighbours know it well and will point you in the right direction if you just ask. Essaouira isn't like Marrakech, they will actually send you the right way! My only slight complaint is about the breakfast - it was pretty spartan. I stayed in two other accommodations during my trip to Morocco, one Riad and a hostel, and both has far superior breakfasts to La Casa del Mar. Breakfast is served on the roof and there occasionally isn't enough seating, depending when everyone shows up. Even when there is, you might end up in one of the seats in the shade, which is actually pretty cold first thing in the morning! There was a large family staying when I was there and they took over the place a bit so breakfast wasn't the peaceful affair it can be in other Riads, but as long as you're not hoping to sit for an hour relaxing with a book like me you probably wont care. Otherwise I loved my stay here, if I did it again I would spend much longer in Essaouira and stay in La Casa del Mar again for sure. Staff are friendly, helpful but don't bother you if you aren't feeling talkative. The building is gorgeous, although not appropriate for those with mobility issues, and the roof terrace is the best part.

Many thanks for taking the time to give us your review and we have noted your comments about breakfast. Being a small Riad it can mean the terrace gets busy if everyone appears at the same time. We look forward to seeing you with us again. Su & Mouna (manageress)

One thing for sure: I would not recommend this place for families. Apparently the only family room is at the lowest floor, no windows, no light. Pictures on Internet look way (!!) better than reality. Humid scent etc... The manager was rather pushy than friendly and/or helpful, however, the service ladies were really nice (they all spoke French quite well). On the positive side: simple but very nice breakfast, great terrace (weather permitting), location in the heart of old town. But for us all in all it was definitely not worth its cost. In fact we wish we'd paid a bit more for a better value.

Sorry to read that Marina. Being in the medina, beside the Atlantic and depending on when you visit the whole medina can be a bit humid. Hope you managed to get breakfast on the terrace while there. With regards to our 2 larger family rooms(with mezzanine floor) they are on the first floor and because this is a converted old Souiri house the idea was always all rooms looking into the central patio running the full height of the house. One actually has direct exterior light to the street but not the other, but not had any other comments for this. Regards Su

We loved La Casa del Mar!! This was the last stop of our Moroccan trip and a perfect place to land....right in the medina, but quiet once inside. Beautifully decorated, cozy, and warm staff. Very clean. Nice rooftop with grand views out to the sea. I wholeheartedly recommend this riad.

The Casa is located in the heart of the Medina, right next to the waterfront and from the luxurious rooftop you can have a fantastic view to the sea and the crushing waves. The rooms are all individual, nicely designed in Moroccan style, the beds are big and comfortable. WiFi works all over the place with a good connection. Breakfast is included in the price, is generous and can be served at the rooftop or down in the cosy lounge area where you can find a proper kitchen as well. All in all a very nice stay in this beautiful town of Essaouira.

I spent 1 night at this riad and I'm wishing I could have stayed longer. It is super easy to locate once you have shown the way. The views from their rooftop were breathtaking, I wish it hadn't rained during my stay so I could have enjoyed my breakfast up there. I slept in the first room on their second floor, not sure of the of the room name. I was traveling alone and I felt completely safe walking to my riad at night. The staff was super helpful in helping find the bus terminal that I needed to get to the next day. The place was super clean and very quiet, granted it was just me and another family staying there that 1 night.
