Salalah Rotana Resort is frequently lauded for its stunning location and vibrant atmosphere, with live music and commendable cleanliness in rooms and public areas. Guests appreciate the attentive and friendly staff, along with the resort's extensive amenities, including various dining options and entertainment. However, some travelers feel the resort does not provide good value for money, noting extra charges for certain amenities. While the spacious rooms are acknowledged, issues like musty odors and the need for updates are points of contention. Additionally, while the beach is beautiful, improvements in beach furniture have been suggested.

At the end of November I booked an ocean view room at the Rotana Resort in Salalah for a week. Of course I did some research beforehand and chose this hotel because of the huge stretch of beach. I booked with all inclusive.
Check-in, greeting, short instructions/explanation of the processes, restaurants, times, etc. were given in the reception area by the reception manager.
My room definitely met my requirements, quiet location, comfortable bed, very clean, very friendly housekeeping, great view.
There are numerous restaurants, as you can also use the facilities of the neighboring hotel Fanar. However, sometimes (of course, as in other hotels of this size) not all areas were included in the AI. Which wasn't a tragedy for me, because the food at the Saffron (used for breakfast + dinner) was excellent! Always fresh, many smaller portions were constantly being refilled at the buffet stations so that nothing got cold or dry. I didn't make a reservation at a themed restaurant, but I assume that the quality here is at least as good.
Just one word about the beach: amazing! Fine sand, gently sloping, absolutely clear water, you can see the fish in the surf, brilliant!

Good connections to Salalah and Taqa to various sights, both by taxi and rental car. For me, thanks to the excellent hotel and the many options that interested travelers have outside the hotel, the perfect vacation!

Dear Rotana team, keep up the good work and thanks for an amazing time with you!

A few more words about the sometimes overly negative comments about the AI and the times that are observed when, for example, alcohol is not served. If you want to stuff yourself all day on vacation and want to have a drink at the beach bar at 8:00, you may be doing it completely wrong. You know about the alcohol if you study the country, AI or not! And it is also well known that in many AI hotels there is a category of guest who fills their whole plate and only then realizes that they are not hungry or that something doesn't taste good. Greetings go out to Eastern Europe ... those were the people you met at the mosque in swimming trunks and tank tops... That's just an observation and a comment on the, for me, partly unjustified assessments

We booked an Ocean view suit. It was spacious and just 2 minutes away from the beach, with a very nice outdoor seating space. But the the room was very dark and gloomy inside, ocean view was not so easy to see through the tiny, mouldy and not very clean asian style windows. The dark furniture, dark purple curtains and absolutely awful, very old net curtains made it even more look a dungeon.

Cleaning was ok but inconsistent, there was always something missing or forgotten: change of towels, coffee and tea, slippers. The mirror in the living room wasn't cleaned once.

We also had ants in the bathroom, a badly leaking shower door and a broken iron.

Tv was ancient with 3 English news channels, and no smart tv option.

The main disappointment was a very weak internet/wifi connection (basically none outside the room), so it was really hard to watch something on our own devices.

The only entertainment available all day long was a loud Italian music coming from the adjacent Bravo club.

The hotel is huge and crowded with the most clientele coming from Italy and Poland on the all inclusive packages that makes rooms very reasonably priced and food and beverages quite cheap, compare to other venues.

Food was a bit of a disappointment. Most restaurants have a buffet option only, some have a very strange "set menu" system, with the different world cuisine every night, where you don't know what you are going to get until they serve you, they bring the same starter for everyone and a choice of two main courses. Every time we tried it wasn't nice - the service was rushed, they bring you soup before cocktails, they don't care about your preferences, they just wanted to get rid of you asap. Nobody can answer rather simple questions about the wines they have.

There are only two good restaurants with proper a la cart menu: As Samac and Silk Road.

The resort really needs some place where you can grab a quick sandwich or pizza and don't to be forced to wait in line at the buffet every time you want to eat.

Staff is friendly, however, not all of them speak good English.

The room service food (when served quickly and still hot) and the service itself were good.

Overall it is a very good location for an amazing beach holiday but hotel rooms badly need refurbishment and services leave a lot to be desired.

We stayed in this beautiful resort for five days after a round trip. Our room was very large with a balloon, a super comfortable king-size bed, a large bathroom with a shower and bathtub, and two sinks, which made getting ready in the morning much quicker. I haven't seen such a clean resort for a long time. The resort was constantly being cleaned discreetly. The breakfast left nothing to be desired and even shortly before breakfast time was over, more was served. We had all-inclusive and there was such a delicious buffet meal every time, very varied and something for every taste. The resort's beach was unique, a white sandy beach, a gently sloping sea, and the water temperature in January was 27C. There was always a free lounger, and if not, the beach staff always found one. All of the employees were extremely friendly and accommodating, a big compliment to the resort management. We felt very comfortable and can really recommend the Rotana Resort.

Very large structure with a series of buildings distributed along paths with palm trees and well-kept lawns.
Large room with balcony facing the sea (optional). Dated furnishings with broken and creaking doors, but the biggest problem was the strong musty smell (like mold). Obviously we pointed it out but given the high humidity in the area the only advice was not to open the window and always keep the air conditioning on: nothing changed.
Large bathroom with nice walk-in shower, shame about the lack of bidet. I recommend asking for rooms on a mezzanine floor because the day it rained, a room on the ground floor flooded!
There are several restaurants with many well-organised buffets, a truly wide choice for all tastes. We preferred the restaurant with the Italian Chef who freshly prepares a pasta of your choice (long or short) with one of the two available condiments (which change with each service).
The Spa service (for a fee) within the structure is also excellent.
Obviously beautiful beach with fine sand and crystal clear water, shame about some ruined umbrellas, one even broken and with rusty nails exposed, very dangerous but no one seemed to care. Very worn beach towels.
Evening entertainment seen only twice, the others we took walks in the village and to the Marina, an area next to the structure with clubs and shops but not particularly exciting.
For a 5 star we honestly expected something more.

Very beautiful, spacious resort in a canal landscape with a Little Venice atmosphere and all on a sprawling, great beach. A top location for beach lovers. The very well-kept Rotana Hotel may be a bit old, but it impresses with its Arabian charm. The spacious rooms are quiet and the beds are very comfortable. With the additional package "Rotana Club" you also get the option of "Dine Around" in the restaurants of the neighboring hotels. Our favorites were the Silk Road with excellent food and a first-class service team and the Rotana Beach Club Restaurant (with the very attentive Ashraf). With the additional package you avoid the perceived mass processing in the buffet restaurants, although their staff were also very friendly and always helpful. Overall, the employees in all areas are always attentive, nice and friendly. We were well looked after at the front desk by Mary Ann and her team. We didn't like the "Italian beach section" with loud music and the ignorance of some guests with regard to appropriate clothing in the restaurants. In addition, the enormous construction activity in the entire resort does not necessarily bode well for the future.
The management would be well advised to nip emerging Ballermann tourism in the bud. However, this will be difficult if the facility is offered at bargain prices in Eastern Europe.

The Bravo club has a well-defined area within the Rotana Resort; it has a restaurant, swimming pool, evening entertainment area. The whole area is called Hawana Salalah and sees two villages, Rotana and Fanar, and the boutique hotel Juweira, as well as the residential area. Very pleasant to walk between the avenues of the artificial lagoon and the marina. Returning to the Bravo club, the rooms with balconies are spacious and cleanliness more than acceptable; the passing of the years would now require deep maintenance of doors and fixtures. In addition, in some cases specific intervention to eliminate moldy smell would be desirable. The pool is not very large but well maintained. Beach with fixed umbrellas and sun loungers. Sunbeds at the moment acceptable but should be replaced shortly. The beach in the village should be cleaner and more cared for; using small means of sifting and 'pulling' the sand would make everything more attractive. Catering of good standard, the cook Samuel meets any of your requests. In addition to the restaurant in the Bravo area, you can access the restaurants at Rotana and Fanar. Animation group very present and nice but never intrusive. Good.

The resort is located approximately 20 minutes from the airport and convenient to the center of Salalah. It is modern, very well kept and extremely clean. The rooms are large, courtesy kit always available, also equipped with bathrobes and slippers. A very long beach with light sand and turquoise sea accompanies the beauty of the resort. Staff always available, smiling and ready to help you. The "romantic dinner for two" on the beach is highly recommended among the services offered by the resort. A special thank you to Kiram who accompanied us on this unforgettable experience.

Hello, we stayed from April 1 to April 12, room 407. Rotana Salalah surprised us very positively. The hotel was clean, cleaned every day, towels were changed, water, tea, coffee, etc. were added. Sabbir, the cleaning man. very nice, obliging and helpful. Additional water or subsequent cleaning (there were no problems. Beautiful country, wonderful ocean and wonderful people. The waiter at the Szafran Buzife Reviem restaurant (greetings) went out of his way to make sure we didn't miss anything. I would always like to meet such people on our travels around the world. Even the snorkeling mask I left on the beach, or my sunglasses, were found and returned after a few days when we weren't sure where we left them and when! Great people, honest and helpful. The ocean and the water in the pools (a fairy tale).

I would rate the hotel as GOOD - neither satisfactory nor very good! Although it is a very, very large complex, you never had the feeling of "mass processing". Very spacious complex, very nice ambience like "little Venice". We had booked the additional package - Rotana Club - which in my opinion is worth the money ("better" loungers on the beach - better service at dinner including better location and much more included). The food was excellent, but a little more variety - especially at breakfast - wouldn't hurt. A compliment to Salam, our beach boy - friendly, nice, accommodating. The same goes for Diana at the beach bar. The rest of the staff were also very, very nice and accommodating. You can get by with English, although I sometimes had the feeling that they spoke worse English than I did :-) ..... What we didn't like: The complex is getting on in years and unfortunately you can see that everywhere. The beach umbrellas are a disaster (tattered and partly broken). The cushions on the loungers also need replacing. There were very few loungers and even fewer parasols at the pool - although there was enough space. It's also bad that the Italians "got" their own section of the beach from the hotel... loud music all day, etc. (thank God we had our section of the beach "on the other side"). ..... What has nothing to do with the hotel: A taxi trip to Salalah and back, around 1 hour, plus a short city tour (10 minutes) costs 120 euros - that's pretty steep ;-( .... I can't say whether we'll come back. I tried to rate the hotel without emotion (if that's even possible)

We stayed at the Rotana Resort from October 27 to November 10, 2024 on our honeymoon.

Overall we have a very relaxing and nice holiday, but some things are not at all as we know them from many other hotel stays (preferably in the Caribbean).

Let me start with the positive things:

- the staff is very friendly and attentive throughout.

- the facility is very pleasantly designed and wonderfully located directly on the Indian Ocean. Due to the adjacent marina, which connects the Rotana with the sister hotel Fanar, the entire complex is very extensive and you can discover/do a lot.

- the main building/lobby gives the resort its special Arabic flair

- the quality of the food is overall ok, not exceptionally good - but fine

What we didn't like:

- we booked the hotel as part of our Honymoon trip - supposedly the hotel is specialized for honeymooners. The fact that we're sleeping in separate beds for the first time in 20 years shows that something probably went wrong.

- the main restaurant Saffron is a bit chaotically organized. Although the rotana is probably a bit “higher quality” than the Fanar, we find it much more pleasant at El Souk.
At breakfast it takes 15 - 20 minutes to get a coffee. On two days it was only available from paper cups (mind you in a 5 star hotel). Cutlery, especially spoons, you have to organize yourself as a guest. The choice is also comparatively small compared to other hotels (Bahia Príncipe or RIU).

- biggest criticism are the sunbeds by the pool and on the beach. It feels like 30% of the loungers are broken. Overall, there are also too few, especially since in Rotana a good 1/3 of the beach chairs are reserved for Italian Bravo guests. Fortunately, the staff on the beach are very attentive and try to organize free sunbeds. Why not just stock up on some loungers on the beach or why not replace all the broken (broken) loungers?

At the pool we were only once, as there are very few loungers overall.

- the all-inclusive offer is unfortunately a bit misleading, as in addition to the “classic” all-inclusive there is also a “real” all-inclusive for guests with the Club Rotana upgrade. While this is not new, many restaurants are only available for an extra charge for the normal all-inclusive guests.

The crowning glory is that you can only use the bar in the beautiful lobby at an extra cost. So if you want to have another tea in the evening, you have to pay in the lobby - we have never experienced this before.

The bottom line is that we stayed half the time at Fanar - of course we can't say anything about the rooms there.

As a tip we want to mention the restaurant “The Island” in the Marina. Is not part of the hotel and therefore not included in the price, but the good food and the very good cocktails is definitely worth a visit!

You can actually watch dolphins every day at the two viewpoints, which project a good 300 meters into the open sea!

All in all a nice but not an outstanding holiday!

Yes I had a minibar in my room, filled with water and soda. Yes Fanar Hotel facilities can be used, the restaurants and bars as well. The restaurant you have to book before. I am not sure if there are any snacks available. I did not go to water park but it was included if You buy the concept rotana option.
