The property is located in a nice area, in the woods. We've got a 4th floor room which was new-looking, with an all-window wall. The bathroom was from another movie, and the shower was leaking water on the floor. The staff in the restaurant was always nice and attentive. The food prices were on the higher side, but tasted good.

It is marketed as a SPA hotel, however, you are only allowed 2 hours a day at the spa and you need to book the slot way in advance. Out of the 2 dry, inside saunas, only one was working. It was supposed to be a 90 degrees celsius sauna, with a 10% humidity (according to its description on the door), but there were 75 degrees celsius and a humidity of 45% (according to the thermometers inside), so more on the humid side. The next door, Infrared sauna did not work. We've used the outside sauna once- when we've tried to use it the second time we've realised that the fire that was keeping it hot was not burning anymore and it was getting cold inside. I was surprised to see that there was no rule regarding the use of towels in the sauna. This means that almost everyone there was sitting in the sauna directly on the bench, without using the towel. Using a towel would be a basic hygiene rule. I am not saying to introduce the strict Therme rule, but at least people could be asked to put the towel on the bench before sitting.. I've told the spa receptionist about the issues with the saunas not working properly, but they blankly ignored everything I said, without even saying they are sorry or that they will investigate. They've just ignored me. I imagine they just don't care as long as customers keep coming.

The big pool inside was way too cold to be used as well as the bigger pool outside. During my 2 hour stay in the SPA area, I couldn't see any hotel staff to monitor if the facilities are working properly or if the rules are being respected. Overall, the SPA experience is highly highly overrated.

We've been allocated a 4th floor room, and the rooms next to us were being renovated. This means that construction work was starting at 8:45 every morning, so there was no possibility to sleep in. It was impossible to sleep in your room during the day. Not nice for over 100 EUR a night.

Hotel is very nice but stuff and services not! For 130€/night services should be improved! Stuff is not very friendly, the cleanliness of the rooms leaves much to be desired. dirty floor, full of dead insects, dust on the furniture. cleaning the room between days of accommodation does not mean just changing towels, it should be wiped on the floor, clean the bathtub / shower, etc.
Spa is looking very good but cannot access it full! Spa time is limited at 2 hrs. In spa is not everything functional, can use 3 very small pools and one sauna inside and outside is working pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Have to do a schedule for spa when you arrive but when you ask its full already.. the area and the hotel are superb but there is still work to be done in terms of services and staff.
Breakfast is perfect!
GastroLab restaurant is ok but it is not diversified food. Forest restaurant is better idea and food si great.

We spend 3 days at the hotel.
The superior room was quite nice, but not clean enough. The cleaning lady was really not cleaning the room , bathroom and balcony! In the bathroom she just changed the towels and put toiletries, not cleaning the shower area! We left the empty shampoo bottles on the shelf in the shower in 3 days never removed them and the shelf was not cleaned.. We left the shower head on the shower tap on purpose to see if she puts it on the shower rod and clean the tap, she did not moved it so she did not clean the tap or the floor of the shower! It looks like she has to clean all rooms on the floor-30 rooms I think! It is too much for 1 cleaning lady!
The hotel manager should put some more cleaning staff!
There was no water pressure and not really hot water! You have to wait a few minutes until the warm(not hot) water arrives! Not acceptable!
The SPA treatments and medical treatments at a very high level, an SPA receptionists did their utmost to fit the treatments to my schedule including a very early physiotherapy treatment at 07.30 when normally they start at 09.00. Very appreciated!
SPA facilities are very good.
Breakfast was good
The food and service at the Gastrolab restaurant is very good and at the Forest restaurant too.
The safe deposit box in the room was not fixed to the wall or cabinet.
A technician came over after our complain and fixed it with a bolt to the cabinet shelf!
No bell boy!
The excursions guide Rares was very kind and attentive.
Overall I would come back but they need some improvements to give a fair value for the money!

Pros: The hotel is located in a dream location. The landscapes are beautiful, the mountain air is clean, everything is green around. The staff is very kind and helpful. The rooms are spacious, nicely furnished and clean. As for the food, I recommend the vegetable tempura.

Cons: Despite the beautiful scenery, outdoor walks outside the hotel area are risky due to the multitude of bears in the area. The sunbeds in the area of the indoor pools are permanently occupied, tourists leave their towels and go to their rooms, the staff does not release the sunbeds. There is no cleaning staff in the pool area, so there is quite a lot of dust and dirt, especially in the outdoor pool area. The water in the jacuzzis is miserable, and the outdoor pool has greenish deposits all around. As for the food, while it is tasty, it is unreasonably expensive and the menu is not very varied.

I took the room 409 4th floor at the price of 130 € per day, the road there leaves much to be desired. I did not have hot water on shower and I ended the stay after the first night, downstairs many customers made complaints on this topic. dinner because on the payment note was added a tip fee of 10% of the value of the note without the client's will. And at the departure the elevators were blocked and we had to go down the stairs with luggage.
I do not recommend this resort!

First of all, such ashame for those money and time that was invested in this place.
The area it is really beautiful but there is a problem of management.
The food very poor quality, the services overall are very poor, starts from reception to front and back house.
We been few years ago and i remember very good that the prices were very high, that the staff most of them they dont speak romanian and they dont come from Hospitality, just local people who needs a job, no matter what and this thing says lots of things about this place.
Dont even try to tell me that you are suffering having short staff because we know the reasons why you dont have good and enough staff, one of the reason being the salary.
Anyway, i remember that the maids came in my room, i was naked and i shoot at them to stop there and not to come inside, of course that didnt stopped and the only thing that she told me was " i need to clean the room!" With me and with my partner being naked! Imagine that!
We booked treatment at their spa, after i check out i had the surprise to see that i was charged more for services that i didnt asked, for a package that i didnt asked.
The whole place is a mess.
The staff are overworked, very high price for you get .
The area really beautiful, the spa beautiful but was much better to have a different area and pool for kids, can be very noisy and destroyed hollidays.
Really such ashame, the place in self has potential, beautiful views, spa is a plus.
Never again.

We arrived on 26th and there was no hot water. The problem was solved only next day at 3 p.m. Not acceptable for a four star hotel. In the rooms (we had two) there was too hot. Since we couldn’t do anything about it, we called for assistance. Somebody came and told us that he could turn off the heat completely (there were 4 degrees Celsius during night) or we could open the window now and then 🤪. We did this and the room was full of flies at the end of the day. We asked for a late check out for one of the rooms on Friday, at 4 p.m., and I told them that the reason is that my daughter had an important test to take online. They told me it was ok but after 1 p.m they sent somebody to clean the room and they called repeatedly on the phone to ask when we leave, disturbing my daughter. Not to mention that we had to pay penalties because they told us that it was a late, late check out.

I have visited with my friends this hotel in august. They don't offer coffee before 8 o clock. You are not allowed to take coffee from breakfast into lobby. The reception people refuse to book massages to their own spa,for the clients by phone! The client has to go in another building to book his own massage. After several failed trials to book by phone, as advised by the reception, I went to spa to book my massage and they just told me to wait until they finish their cleaning. ..Never happened to find such low respect for the clients.

We've spent 3 nights at the hotel together with our child in an junior suite room. We had a relaxing beautiful time, enjoyed a rich breakfast, a quiet winter time, a careful service and diverse facilities at spa . With some small adjustments it could be perfect: it was crowded at the spa area (not sure if there were still people not checked at the hotel because they can come at spa); they should make a system not to allow guest to let their towels on the chairs to keep them while they're out to the restaurant or to have a nap; they should change the white curtains from the rooms- because been white doesn't help with the sleep at all (during the day for the kid/ during the night for everyone); the room was a little dusty in some places (when the kid is still not walking on his feed you can see the marks on his clothes). All in one, it was a good vacation for all of us ( our kid loved the pool time)

It is a very beautiful location, in the middle of the wild nature. The hotel is (still) one of the best in Romania, but for the required price the quality has dropped a lot since the last visit, three years ago. The reception staff is unfriendly (you are non-existent when you are passing through the reception area or they didn't learn to smile at all), unlike the restuarant or cleaning staff, who are much more friendly and helpfull. It is also a pity that they accepts vouchers tourism. Due to the vouchers there are more and more non-civilized tourists who have access to this hotel. Although I really regret the place, given the high price and the last experience with the 'fauna' of SPA, we will probably wait for the vouchers to be eliminated in order to return here. Until then, at the same price or even less, we prefer to go to another place or country, maybe not as beautiful, but where tourists are more civilized and the staff much more friendly.

Hi Ana, the price for 3 hours access to the pool and all annexes (thermal area, steam bath, saunas etc) for adults is RON 60 (aprox 15 EUR) during weekend (Friday-Sunday) and RON 40 (aprox EUR 9) for the rest of the week. For children (aged 7-16) the price is RON 40 on weekends and RON 30 (aprox EUR 7) during the week. Children under 6 years are free of charge :) Please be advised that towels and bathrobe rental cost RON 10 (aprox. EUR 2.5) each. The pool and saunas are in the same area so I don't think there's a way to pay a lower price to access just the pool. I've taken the information from the hotel's website, I can't post the website's link here due to forum regulations but if you do a google search with the keywords: balvanyos opening hours and prices, it should be the first search result. Good luck!
