We spent five nights in Gamma Hotel and it was full of group tours. The car park is full of buses. The lobby was packed day and night. The tour leader would do all the checking in.

In contrast we were a group of four friends with some school learned Russian language. We found the reception staff and others to be brusque and off hand. They were not interested in being helpful. They had trouble finding our booking.

The rooms were fine but too hot and it was not possible to turn down the heat.

Drinking water is dispensed from large coolers on each floor.

You need your room key to enter the lift area and to enter your floor.

Breakfast in the huge packed dining area had a great range of food on offer but there were bottlenecks of people trying to get food.

There are many cafes within Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta but some were very slow to serve and usually warned us.

Souvenirs are priced competitively.

The lady in left luggage is very nice.

It's about a five minute walk to Partizanskaya metro station.

A great stay. Hotel is huge with comfortable rooms and a comfy bed. Across the road is the markets and also a wide range of restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat. Multiple train stations are a short walk away and a supermarket nearby is very handy. Can highly recommend!

This motel is in a good position, opposite the Metro and is a safe area. The room's are old, russian style, warm and secure. However, the bathroom's are in need of renovation! The room's are overpriced, but it is difficult to find any cheaper hotels. The buffet breakfast (included in the price of accomodation) is fantastic. They have a huge variety of fresh vegetables, cold and warm meat's, rice, "peroshki" (sweet's, dessert's) and the staff are polite and quite friendly. It is all you can eat and they are alway's bringing out more food. All in all, this is a good place to stay for those on a budget. The motel has good security, staff, food and room's. You get what you pay for! Most reception staff speak English. There should be no problem's for those people who speak no Russian. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Moscow. Moscow is an expensive city so it is best to live like a local. Buy food from the supermarket's and use the Metro. I used the Metro everyday and found it to be very efficient, safe and exciting! But I advise anyone who does NOT speak Russian not to use it alone as it is very easy to get lost and the staff do not speak English. I speak Russian and I must say that this was essential for me using the Metro as I got lost a few times and had to ask for assistance! I love Moscow, it it a beautiful, exciting city. The atmosphere is ellectric! Moscow is changing so quickly and the Muscovites are keen to move forward and progress. I travelled alone in Moscow (I am a 24 yr old female) and I find Moscow to be a very safe city, really! There are security and militia (police) almost everywhere in public place's. I advise anyone thinking about travelling to Moscow and to Russia to go. Russia is a great country and unlike any other.

I stayed at the Izmailovo Gamma-Delta Hotel from Sept. 3 to Sept. 12., 2004. The hotel rate is very reasonable for someone who is traveling on a budget. Though the rooms could be a bit cleaner and weren't impressive, they fit the price of an inexpensive Motel 6 or Motel 8 as if you were in the United States. The hotel has many items that satisfied me or for any other traveler, such as: several bars and restaurants right in the lobby, many trinket shops for that last minute buying spree, a pharmacy, an internet cafe, a coffee/tea cafe, money exchange, and many ATMs. All the people were friendly, except when you wanted directions or asked for specific help in finding a place in Moscow. The Front Desk folks were not as friendly as I expected. The travel agency located in the lobby were friendly but were not English-friendly. Therefore, you need to know a bit of Russian in order to get around and communicate with the staff. The lobby is always filled with travelers and people checking in, so there was always a busy time in the lobby, even late at night. The travel agency in the lobby were good in helping with taxis and train tickets on the Red Arrow to St. Petersberg. They were giving the average price and did not much of a surcharge. The one thing you have to watch out for is the lobby kiosks owners who were trying to rip you off because you don’t know the language and/or the money exchange. Often there were no prices on items and you had to barter a bit. I got ripped off a couple of times from some of the kiosk people by being overcharged. The hotel is in a good location. The hotel is close to a main train station that can bring you to downtown Moscow in 20 minutes or less. If you want to eat inexpensively, there are a lot of food stores that sell pre-made meals in the area and you can eat out for 3 or 4 dollars a day rather well (like a full roasted chicken with bread for $3.50). What's also nice is the two flea markets nearby that had everything you need for gifts, clothing, food, etc. Of course, you have to barter for everything. In all, the hotel is convenient, good for the price, somewhat English-friendly, and a fun place to hang out at if you don't want to travel into Moscow for the evening.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights over new year with an Explore tour group.
The complex is huge and decorated in the public areas like a poor mans Las Vegas - but maybe that was just for the festive season?
Travelling with a Russian tour leader we had no problems with front desk.
The rooms are adequate but the beds small and matresses poor.
Security was good and breakfast had a good variety of dishes, however, the bread was always stale.
Bascially the hotel meet basic needs but nothing more.

The room was a reasonable size. The beds were comfortable - a very tall person might find them a bit short.

The breakfasts were great - a massive buffet. It was worth waiting for fresh pancakes.

There were good internet facilities - these were very popular so I had to wait for a few minutes to get a computer.

It was very close to the metro - and only took 20 mins to get into the centre of the city.

There was a market only a short walk away which sold some souvenirs - cheaper than those in the shops within the hotel.

Spent 3 nights at Ismailovo Gamma Hotel in late August. Surprisingly nice *** hotel for us and our two Siberian college kids who met us in Moscow on arrival. Spent 2 nights at the Gamma again in late September as we headed back to the States. They did bungle our reservations that time, but managed to provide us with rooms.

Typical of many Moscow hotels, the front desk staff tends to be, for the most part, rather surly and condescending. DON'T count on the individual who is supposed to arrange taxi service for you. And they are careless with your passport -- at the 2nd check-in in September they lost one important document that was folded in my passport. Fortunately, I had extra copies. The several restaurants offer good cuisine, but are terribly overpriced and service is usually not efficient at all. The gift shops are a bit overpriced and one can find much better prices on all of the same merchandise by walking the couple of blocks to the historic marketplace.

The Ismailovo Delta, one of several hotels in the Ismailovo's large complex, is pretty dismal!... We had to book one night there to make up for the bungled reservations. The room was tiny, with old, worn out furniture, elevators that malfunctioned. The water in the shower and lavatory ran rusty red and was turned off during the night.

Security in both of the Ismailovo hotels we stayed in is not very good and security officers in the lobby pay little attention to who comes and goes even though the front desks give patrons security passes which are supposed to be checked.

We, my Russian wife and I spent one night at this hotel a few years ago. The hotel was ok, the room was ok, and the price for Moscow was very good! Most hotels in Moscow are 1-2 star hotels at best, and charge you as if they were 5 star. I have stayed at more than a few hotels in Moscow and I can tell you that you may as well find one that is cheap and is a little bit of a distance away from down town and red square. The prices there are much higher and the rooms and service are no better. I think that the people at these farther away hotels try a little bit harder to please you? There is a big swap meet/flee market right next door to this hotel. (Good prices on nesting dolls and such). The best prices that I have ever found for souvenirs in Moscow is at the main train station! I think that this is because most of the people that shop there are Russians? This train station souvenir shop is huge), (cloths, shoes, anything that you may want, a shoppers paradise). The hotel does not have airconditioning (thought I was going to die). Windows are small (no venting at all). And if you stay in summer (with the windows open) the street noise is real bad. (somewhere there was a dog that barked all night long)? The metro is close, food was ok but we were turned away from the free buffet (this meal was included in the room price), I guess because the ballroom/dining room was full and or we were late? I never did get a straight answer on the real reason? So we ate at the little resturant on the ground floor, and the traditional Russian food was excellent. So ok rooms, ok beds, ok service, good price, and no hookers. (warning, some of the hotels near red square are full of them, and the taxi's are run by the mafia, take the metro if you can, or walk a little distance from your hotel and catch a cab, the mafia taxi's want $50.00 to go anywhere, and use a phone from a phone station not the hotel, they will rape you, more so if you are calling long distance. At a phone station, you pay for the minutes before you make the call, so they can not over charge you)! Good Luck. But I still love Moscow and the Russian people, I married one!

Our 2nd stay at the Izmailovo/Gama Delta was sept 10th and 11th 2006. It was much improved since our first stay. There were many new shops on the ground floor, an internet area, coffie bar, very low priced souvenir shops (many of them), ethnic resturant, a huge resturant on the second floor, bars and so on. It was much cleaner and had a new feeling about the place. (please note in my last review-hot night in moscow-I stated that the best and lowest cost souvenir shop in Moscow was at the main train station! Sad but it is no longer there? It is now a large internet/phone setting room. (you have to pay to set there)? But good news. If you exit the front door of the Izmailovo and look to your right you will see what looks like and old european town? It is a brand new tourist area. On the back side/end of this area is the largest and cheapest souvenir open air market in all of Moscow. It is huge, and it is enough of a reason to stay at the Izmailovo itself! (CHEAP STUFF, HUGE SELECTION). The Izmailovo is pretty close to a metro (subway) station. The rooms are ok sized, the beds are a little small, and if you stay there in the summer time you may die of heat. (NO A/C). Get a room at the back of the hotel if you can. The setting sun will bake your room. You can open the windows, but then the street noise will keep you up all night. Often Moscow is on the cool side, so maybe you will get lucky? We only sleep in our rooms, so who cares, (why just set in your room all day when you are in Moscow)? Our price was about $100.00 per night on weekends, and a little more on the week days? (they charge the business person more I would guess)? The room was quiet and a little to cool for our taste, (Moscow does not turn on the cities heat system until the average daily temperature reaches a certain level)? (I know, at this moment you are saying to yourself, "what the"? Well this is Russia we are talking of here! This is one of the cheapest hotels in Moscow. It is a distance from red square, but if you are going to save hundreds of dollars a night, I say what the heck? They changed the towels, gave us new toilet paper and such everyday, so I would say the Izmailovo is a very good (Moscow) hotel for the money, it's more than ok for the money. Check in was a little bussy, the staff was ok, and all of the food was pretty good. You can order a taxi from the front desk, exchange money, and they will stamp (register) your visa paper. (Keep this paper as you will need it to exit the country). (You have to register your visa within 3 days of entering Russia). (This is the second half of the form that you will fill out on the jet before you land in Russia). You will fill out both sides of this form on the jet, the passport people (at the airport) will tear it in half, they will keep 1/2 and give you the other half, this other half is what gets stamped at your hotel! There are a few resturants near the hotel, places to exchange $ and so on. The whole complex of the Izmailovo/Gama Delt and such was built for the Moscow 1980 olympic games, so it is not really very old. I would give the Izmailovo a solid 3 to a 3.5 as hotels go. I would give it a 5 for the price! We hope to go to Russia again in early 2008, and we will stay at the Izmailovo again if they have rooms for us. Good luck and good travel!
