I was first in Pokrovka hotel in Feb.2011, Since then I returned 5 times.
I spend half of my work-life in hotels, so I guess I'm a 'critical customer'. In this place I'm also a 'happy customer'.
This hotel is really an excellent -if not the best- choice in Moscow.
It's centrally located with only a 20 minute walk from the Red Square...
Standard rooms are spacious, modern and well equipped. Toiletries from Zegna in the bathroom says enough.... Bathrobe, slippers, free mineral water, umbrella, daily morning newspaper, etc... It's all part of the package....
Beds are good, mattress is perfect, bed linen is daily replaced... Most rooms have big walk-in showers and good water temperature and pressure and high-quality shower heads...
When hotel has the availibility they will upgrade to one of their larger suites for no extra cost....
All personel are friendly and courteous, and extremely polite and friendly .... Congratulations to HR Management in this place to select and train their employees to be so nice and customer-oriented .... !
There seems to be an excellent fitness, swimming pool and spa in the hotel, although I never personally used these ....
Morning breakfast is sumptuous, all you can eat, all you can think of .... Price included in the room.
Evening dinner restaurant has an excellent card for very reasonable and acceptable prices... One little remark though : wines are overly expensive, as well by the bottle as by the glass.. No 'half-bottles' available ...
During summer months the restaurant is moved outside to very large modern and spacious lounge-style tent, with comfortable sofa's and live soft music ..... After a day of work, an excellent place to unwind and relax...
Free high speed wireless internet 24/7 available... No hassle to connect....
Prices are very reasonable according to Moscow standards....
I would want no other hotel in Moscow anymore....

Me and my wife stayed in the hotel for a full month in June 2011 so we really got to know the hotel and the staff rather well. Our room was very big and convenient and the cleaning worked perfectly as well.

One of the big advantages in staying in a hotel like this was that the staff was extremely service oriented. They helped us with a lot of things that a normal hotel couldn't. For example we needed an exit visa for our new born son (who was born in Moscow during our stay) and they were able to assist us and provide the necessary contacts for it. One employee even came with us to the migration office to help us. I have never experienced anything like it before.

There is also a very good spa (tried Thai-massage five times) and the quality of the treatment was excellent. The gym consist of one room and is a bit small, but has all the necessary machines, like a cross trainer, a treadmill and various weight lifting equipment.

Location is fantastic and there are lots of great restaurants close (try for example Damas with excellent Uzbek-food or "Noahs ark" with Armenian food (like Lebanese food but maybe even better). It is only 25-30 min walk to the Red Square. There are also a few fantastic grocery stores in the area. The best stores was of course a bit expensive but had organic drinks, washing powder and other things that we did not expect to find so easily.

I am a bit of a tech nerd and was very happy to discover that the television set had multiple inputs (like HDMI) so I was able to connect both my IPad and my media player.

Sergey, Vladimir, Nikolai, Julia and Maria and "Step" (and all the others who helped us but who's name I can not remember), thank you, you guys are the best.

Check-in was fast, staff helpful, doorman helped to change euros to RUB at the machine at the entrance of the hotel.
The room was clean, modern and had all necessary things you would need on a business trip.
Location not very convenient for transportation by subway.
We did not have the chance to eat breakfast there or use the spa facility.

The hotel is a find. We loved almost everything about it. We had a spacious room with a viking size bed, and everything one could possible think of in a hotel.

BUT
It's located in the center, but very hard to find. We got lost twice during our short stay.

Moreover, the reception gave us wrong directions. So we were also lost on our from the hotel as well, not only on our way to it.

The bathroom was a pleasant surprise.

2 (long) weeks in this hotel. I was in a one bedroom suite. The two best things about it were it was quiet (my room was on a courtyard) and that it had a little kitchen so I could fix myself meals once I was bored with room-service or restaurants. The location is not premium but it is not bad. The service is where it really sucks: the staff at reception is barely polite, barely helping when you ask them something, never enthusiastic at making you feel interested in their city or neighbourhood. The policy at the Spa is an embarrassment to 5 stars hotels and the staff is truly rude: they treat people from outside way better than the guests at the hotel. They won't give you a robe, nor a pair of sleepers unless you are a visitor; so you have to come to the spa with all the gear from your room in a bag. Each time you politely ask them a towel when you go to the gym for example, they sigh and almost throw it back to you with contempt. If you ask them for example why the high pressure jet are not working in the (very cold) pool, they look at you like if you are some idiot complaining. The same applies when I asked why the heated towel rack in my room didn't work: I was told only 4 or 5 of them are working in the whole building. Why? can't they fix it? we are in one of the coldest capitals of the world after all.
Then I had to call housekeeping back when I realised they didn't change my sheets that were dirty after a few days. Well... That's another policy of the hotel. Also they never say sorry when they are wrong or hello or goodbye. No interaction. I can't imagine what kind of managers they have.
The breakfast is truly depressing. The selection is basic, the lounge music is disturbingly loud. And they make you pay if you ask for a fresh orange juice (!!!! unbelievable in a 5 stars), there aren't any tea pots or pots of milk on avail, choice of fresh fruits is down to orange, pineapple, white melon and kiwi.
Well, I guess the only reason to be there is that if you can' afford one of these outrageously priced 5 stars in the city in my opinion.

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at Mamaison All-Suites SPA Hotel Pokrovka. We would like to express our thankfulness for your taking the time to leave your comments conveying your experience and thoughts of the services provided to you during your recent stay with us. It is only through, that such feedback and comments we have received without exception and unfortunately not on site during your long stay for 2 weeks, which definitely cannot give us better opportunity to investigate level of service delivery breakdown nor ability to achieve maximum guest satisfaction. It is unexpectedly for us to learn that you have such a bad impression on the quality of service at our hotel. For example, all of our staff attends professional trainings on a regular basis. Also we have guest`s questionnaires in each suite and a guest comment book at reception. We are monitoring those comments personally and had not got such a negative feedback on Front office staff service. We are also unhappy to hear that you have not enjoyed hotel`s buffet breakfast and really surprised to learn that there were no pots of milk or tea available. Every morning the variety of food and drinks is checked and fulfilled by the restaurant manager personally as well as by waiters. Two types of cold milk and hot milk were always available at the buffet breakfast line as well as variety of free-of-charge juices. It is quite normal that a fresh squeeze juice offered for an extra charge as in most 5 star hotels in Moscow. Moreover, besides of a fresh cut pineapples, white melons, orange and kiwi there are always available fruit baskets with whole apples, plums, grapes, pears – frankly speaking a quite wide choice. We are really sorry that you could not inform our restaurant staff or manager during your stay so they could prove the highest service standards and to do all the best to satisfy your needs and to make your stay much more comfortable. Like most of the 5-star hotels in Moscow and majority around the world we are undertaking certain measures to protect our environment. According to precise card information located in every guest rooms, the sheets are changed every 3 days. In case a guest wishes to have this more frequently he/she can let the housekeeping know about it by putting the request card on the bed. This information is available on the bedside table in all hotel suites. Unfortunately, during your stay we didn’t get any requests of this kind from you Bearing in mind the ecological situation in the world we would like mention that only together we can preserve our environment. We can assure you that the hotel staff undergoes through assessment on the monthly basis and specialized hospitality trainings are held regularly. Once again, thank you for your recent patronage. We take great pride in meeting the expectations of our guests. If we can continue to be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at anytime. In the meantime, my best wishes and thanks again for choosing Mamaison All-Suites Spa Hotel Pokrovka, Moscow. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. With best regards, Pokrovka Team

There are many ingredients that go into the Hotel Pokrovka that shouldn't work, but when all taken together, they do seem to. The rooms themselves are largely made up of shiny Ikea work surfaces and cupboard frontages (red and white) - but they're not jarring, nor do they feel uncomfortable. The overall square footage of each mini-apartment is small, but each room has the spacious feel of a very small one-bedroom apartment. The leather headboard is a nice touch, the bathroom is well-appointed and the hallway a generous enough size to store luggage where it won't get in the way. Never used the kitchen nor ordered room service (who needs to in a city like Moscow where everything is open until morning?) but had a very pleasant stay. Price tag was similar to the Hyatt (also a favourite). Would probably choose the Hyatt for overall luxury, but if there was more than a $60 difference between the two, MaMaison will always be a very good alternative. It's also not too far from Red Square (though I've not made the walk myself). The Hyatt is much closer. One negative: walls are paper thin. I could hear an argument between a man and his wife (on Skype) through the walls almost every night of my stay. Entertaining, but not really what you expect of a five star hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for a couple of days in September for a work trip, since the company I was visiting had their offices close by.

The hotel itself is very modern looking and the room is extremely spacious, with a nice sofa, good working free wireless and a very good bathroom with great toiletries provided. A complementary bottle of water was very welcome as well, and it has a little shop across the road for snacks. There's a bigger supermarket abut 5 minutes away (take a right outside the hotel, at the big crossing it is the building with a green front). Staff spoke English well and even helped me to post a postcard to a friend (which took about 4-5 weeks to arrive in the US :-] )

My biggest complaint with this hotel, however, was the horrible mattress. At the price of a roughly EUR230 a night, I didn't expect to have springs stick in my back for 3 nights, leaving me near crippled and at one point I contemplated sleeping on the couch instead.

Another minor notch was the connecting door in my room, to someone else's room. This in itself is not a problem, but with my neighbours having a bit too much fun one night this proved to be unpleasantly noisy. I hope they enjoyed themselves though.

The breakfast I skipped as I thought it was insanely overpriced. Another thing to take into consideration is that it is a little bit out of the way and the closest metro station is a good 10-15 minute walk.

I enjoyed my stay here and thought the hotel in itself would easily get top marks for me, but the mattress was unbearable and this leaves this hotel for me in the overpriced and overrated category, where it could easily be so much more.

But let's face it SLEEPING is the #1 priority in a hotel.

Good base to stay in Moscow if you have a driver. My company did provide one, so I was OK. The location is so tricky that I wouldn´t have survived there without a car. It´s not at all suitable for those who´s on foot.
The room was huge. The reception spoke decent English. However their knowledge of the city was poor.

Sure, the hotel is a bit expensive but that is Moscow, and the hotel on the same street, Pokrovka (Elegant) charges 200 or more for a standard room and it was really outdated and clearly not worth the money. For around $100-150 more, you can get more luxury, hammam and steam room, pool and modern, stylish comfort and a pretty good buffet breakfast included with various food options. I received a corporate rate for my junior suite and to my delight upon my arrival, I was told that I was upgraded, free, to a 1 bedroom suit. The concierge Vasily was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff so-so. The two women I encountered regularly are particularly non-smiling. My suite was was cosy, modern and spotless with wood floors, recessed lighting, TV in living room and bedroom, and nice-sized galley style kitchenette with oven (where I could reheat my national Georgian pie leftovers!). Bathroom is a bit small but nice, modern, spotless and plenty of shelf space. The location was perfect for my work, only a 10 minute walk to the office and a bit of a longer walk (15 min.) to the main Metro (Line 1, Chistye Purdi) and Kitay Gorod. Lots of choice of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, a couple of and independent shops in this area. There are at least 3-4 sushi restaurants on Pokrovka near the hotel. The walk to Red Square was not as long as I was expecting. I'm a fast walker but took only 20-25 minutes to get to GUM department store and then view of Kremlim and St. Basil's. You could probably take a bus or tram and get there much faster. Mamaison's hammam (very dark and steamy and slightly perfumy!) was a welcome destination after a day of being outdoors in snowy Moscow. The only downside is the expensive restaurant (although the food was delicious and beautifully displayed) and maybe that that you have to walk several blocks to the closest metros. Overall, I am glad I chose I chose Mamaison and would stay there again.
