This little gem of a restaurant is tucked away in a small courtyard behind the Dashkova Residence Hotel. We just happened to be stood trying to work out what the sign said outside on the pavement. (Not sure why as neither of us speak Russian!). A gentleman walked by and pointed us to the direction of the restaurant and said ‘very good’. So, we went with it. Walking in, it seems a bit canteen style, but with low lighting and classical music playing. We sat at a table not really knowing what we had to do. The waitress came up and gave us the menu. It’s called the ‘Business Lunch’. You have two choices of salad, two choice of soup, two choices of main, choice of side dish and a hot or cold drink. By the time the other half had popped to the toilet, I had made all the choices for us, ordered drinks and got onto the WiFi. Within another couple of minutes, we had the salad, as you’re finishing each course, the next one is on the table and so on! The whole experience was over in 15 minutes! As we sat there, we realised this was for ‘business people’ who want a nice relaxing 3 course lunch with a speedy service! What a great concept. Obviously, we sat around for the next hour taking it all in, watching all the office workers coming and going, it was fascinating. We came to pay the bill, a total of £5.56!! This made the other half smile from ear to ear. The menu changes each day of the week, I actually thought he was going to make me go every day. If you want a great value lunch in the city, 12 – 4pm, this is the place. I would definitely go and find it. …
I stayed at the Dashkova Residence last week. It was an overall positive experience. The hotel is in a great location and close to the Mariinsky, Vasilevsky Island and Nevsky Prospekt. The room was basic and clean, although the bathtub was worn out. The reception has a couple of nice people like Gregory, but some of the girls manning the desk are not nice. There is a lovely cafe 2 buildings away for breakfast and a canteen with some great food across the street. Overall a great choice.
The stay isn't a joy. There is no elevator, but a lot of stairs. I have problems with my knees and I changed from a room on the 2nd floor to a room on the 1st floor. The room on the 1st floor is a really small one, I'm happy to stay here alone, such it is possible to handle the situation. In the TV you find only Russian programmes, some in a bad quality because of a bad connection. The wifi is also terrible, e.g. if you want to use skype. After 2 days with breakfast in the restaurant they offer it now in the lobby bar. There is almost not enough space for all the people, you cannot sit and enjoy your breakfast. Even the toaster can't work because of the space (and they don't offer real bread). They give the wrong number for calling the reception in the information package you find in your room. The best: the hotel is situated in the centre, you can walk to a lot of the famous sights.…
I was staying there within 2 nights of business trip. The location is brilliant: you can enjoy famous place. But it is one good character. I expected more from room. The room is ordinary. My friend had room with bad smell. Another friend had room with only roof window. The bathtub was older and looks no well. The breakfast was not good: bite choice, little tables.
We stayed for 3 nights, upon our arrival we were offered an upgrade to a larger room. The room was spacious and well appointed but it was very dark. For the room rate breakfast should have been included. There was a really cool cafe just up the road that served traditional russian breakfast, close to all the attractions of St Petersburg.
