This is a simple and fairly pleasant hotel. The staff are friendly enough. My room was situated in a separate building behind the main reception and hotel. It was not dingy, and quite clean, although the carpets could do with changing. The hotel seems to share a space with a military/police academy, so I occasionally saw some cadets and there...

My friend looked it up while I was planning to spend at least 2 weeks in Guangzhou. Shamian Island is like an emerald and this hotel lies in the quiet heart of it, sheltered from the hectic traffic and city chaos. The English name of this hotel is the Oversea Chinese Hotel. It is located on the main avenue of the very scenic Shamian island.
