I lived in China for several years and have learned that there is huge variance in Chinese "5 star" hotels. As a result, I tend to stick to the big international hotel chains. My husband and I were visiting Shanghai and the surrounding area for a few weeks and I was having trouble finding good options for Hangzhou. Based on...

My son lives in Shanghai and we visited this area last year during my last trip. We stayed here several nights, the prices were fair. service good, rooms spacious and clean and it was convenient to the rail station. We rented bicycles and toured the area. I found the locals very friendly although I speak only minimal Mandarin. I highly...

Used this hotel to stay in relation to Hangzhou marathon. Great location, also to acces the beautiful park and lake (just enter right across the street). Decent service, good rooms. the Food & Beverage was unfortunately below standard, particularly the breakfast was just not good/bad. Improving the F&B would bring this hotel to another level.

I have stayed in this hotel for a dozen times starting from year 2000. The hotel underwent a massive and highly costly renovation in 2010 and went through a major re-branding exercise. The hotel was awarded Platinum 5-star by the China National Tourism Administration, which is often called the "six star award" above and beyond the 5* rating. I have...

My coworkers have often stayed here, but all these years I've been a Shangri-la diehard when I'm in Hangzhou for business. After this experience, I've been made a Dragon Hotel convert. We traveled in September and arrived late, but enough to enjoy the hotel briefly for the night. Disclosure is that for some odd reason, they upgraded both of us...
