definitely not worth the money. paid JPY80k for 2 for one night in North Tower with dinner and breakfast (neither in the room). Cannot even compare with small establishment or even the onsen at Kawaguchiko. service is a normal hotel, not onsen style service. room is too cold as no separator between window and sleep area, food is the only part live up to standard with 3 small pieces of kobe beef cube and lobster sashimi.

The hotel is perfect. Clean and comfortable and very close to the train station (shutter service can be arranged anyway). The Kaiseki dinner was impressive. The buffet breakfast was also lovely. I only tried the two out of three onsen. They were very nice. Communication is not a problem. They have English and Chinesr speaking front desk. Definitely I will visit again!

This is a traditional hot spring resort and location is near the entrance of Arima Onsen. There have a trainer from Germany hence do not worry about the communication in English. Staffs are nice, helpful and handle issue flexibilty. Facilities and food are goods. The view of room is great when you enjoy the outdoor private bath in room.

Hyoe Koyokaku is one of the famous hotel in the region. Some people can speak good English and they can help you the navigate. The hotspring is good and they have 3 rooms for the hotspring. We tried 2 and they are both big enough. The environment is quite and they offer free parking. We booked a car to access there and it will be more convenient to do so.

The negative about this hotel is definitely cost. It's very pricey. We booked this about 1 week before the visit and in the external booking website it didn't allow me to indicate how many guests. I asked seperately in email about having 2 kids and they quoted me with additional charge. I don't like the way the cost is not transparent. I asked the questions before the deadline of cancellation and they could manage to reply just after the cancellation deadline. Hence I could cancel or i would be fully charged on the reservation. The hotel offers very little help in this aspect.

We didn't know there were multiple selections of restaurant and i believe we booked the very poor one. The food is very unimpressed. Surprisingly they served very slow in refilling our water even there was not many guests in the restaurant. The service level is not as expect given the cost of it.

Overall, my experience with this hotel is bad. I would recommend others to try another one if you want to visit the region, or you better check with hotel first before what you will buy, also give you some lead time to do more research before confirming anything.

Dear Eric Y , Thank you for taking the time to review on TripAdvisor your stay at our ryokan. We appreciate your kind words about our Daiyokujou(large public baths), staff and environment. As you mentioned, we do have many different plans that guests can choose from if they would like to stay at our ryokan. Regarding the negative part about our ryokan, I am very sorry to read that you had some difficulties when you booked the plan (you mentioned that the booking website did not allow you to indicate the number of guests), you did not enjoyed the plan you booked and that you find the service at the restaurant to be slow. We apologize that our services did not meet your expectations and that overall you find your experience with us to be a bad one. We sincerely hope you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Best regards, Manager

Totally eye Candy hotel!!
Hotel claims to be 5 Star Hotel, but how??
REAL ROOM CONDITION: Very Old, Filty, Dirty.

DINNER Buffet: Only fish u will see will be very tiny chopped salmon and tuna that are not even refilled. Other food taste either bland, salty or overcooked!!

SERVICE: If you are Asian n not Japanese, plz expect to get kind of service that you wouldn't even get at a cheap hostel. Not only would staff ignore your request, even worse when i brought bloodstain on my bedsheet, Only reply i got was I am sorry (from 5 star hotel??!!)

HotSpring: Yes, the water was brown, but had a very strong bleach & Chlorine smell.

Would you want to pay $400 or even more per night to stay in this kind of hotel? I really have doubt in the reviews..

WOREST HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER STAYED IN MY LIFE!!

We went to this onsen hotel in Arima on our honeymoon and it was great! We had a really lovely and relaxing time there. There wasn't anything to complain about because the staff were so thoughtful, we love the great choices of food (buffet) , love the staff (they are all very polite even though they can only understand limited English), love the onsens (hot springs). Me and my husband have decided we will go back on our 10th wedding anniversary!! Great location (just 5 mins walk from bus or train station) and there are small local shops among these very traditional Japanese alleys, I am missing this place now I'm talking about it!!!! Highly recommend!

Received a email reminder few days before the check in. Quick response with the information I requested.

Easy access by train from Osaka. Reached the Arimaonsen station, luckily the ryokan shuttle service was picking up other patrons. Informed the driver and then he returned within 4 minutes. Just a short ride to the ryokan, a man came to help us to carry the luggage to the lobby. Quite a huge ryokan, like a maze!

Smooth check in, most of the reception staffs speak good English. Received a handy paper with information about the stay, the time and location of dinner/breakfast and overall directory of the building and other guidelines. Very useful.

Had a simple yet tasty lunch in the ryokan cafe. Returned to the reception to get the room key and the luggage was already sent to our room. A lady guided us to the room and explained the facilities along the way. She continued introducing the facilities in the room when we were inside the room.

Stayed in japanese style room. Simple and spacious room consists of a sitting area, a living/sleeping area, further in is the balcony which is facing the town, with table, chairs and a massage chair. The balcony is facing the town area and mountain. Very nice view but a little cold during the winter. The room comes with a toilet and bathroom, a plus point for a ryokan stay. About 10 minutes later, another lady came to serve the welcome green tea and with a dessert.

Buffet dinner. Dining area is not huge but enough to enjoy in term of environment and the food. Most of the food are Japanese dish. Fresh and tasty especially the teppanyaki black hair beef, melt in the mouth! The restaurant has a small section with garden view.

Returned to the room and the futons are prepared but short of one. Called the reception and two ladies came to make the futon. Like a synchronize performance, just few flips, the futon nicely prepared. The kid love watching it. Adult too! Comfortable futon.

Buffet breakfast, mixture of western and japanese food, simple and fresh. Again everything is tasty.

Reserved one of the private onsen. It is located at another building. A old lady welcome us with great smile then asked 'Japanese or English'. I said English then she took out a card with a short list of onsen facility usage instruction. Language problem solved!  Nice view in the onsen and perfect experience. There is a resting area near the onsen. Relaxed there and served with a cup of nice warm green tea and dessert.

Smooth check out and took the shuttle service to the train station.

Love it.

don't be surprised when you return to your room after dinner & find the lights switched-off and the japanese futon beds all laid out for you in the living room (such a pleasant surprise!!). cold water and hot water is also all filled-up and maintained for you in the 2 flasks provided. so sweet!! everyone staying or visiting the hotel were all locals (if they weren't local, they spoke fluent japanese) that we did stick out like a sore thumb. my partner & i were speaking english to staff & also looked very lost when we entered the hot spring (separately of course. women in women area & men in men area). most of the staff understood & spoke basic english, so it was alright. we were even able to purchase the jr line express bus into osaka/kobe city from front desk. so that was a relief as it beats the hassle of having to take the train back to osaka and changing from one line to another. overall, we had a very good experience in the hotel.

Hotel Feature Tip: make sure you inform the hotel what time and where you will be arriving so they can send their free shuttle bus down to pick you up. likewise upon your departure, hotel will provide you with a shuttle bus to send you to the train station, cable car station,, bus stop (for jr line into koba/osaka city), etc. everyone is local. there weren't a single foreigner staying at the hotel. nonetheless, hotel front desk do have some gentlemen who speak fluent english. make sure you ask them as many questions as you can if this is your first time to the hot spring (as it was for us) as other staff only spoke and understood basic english. yukatas will be provided in your room to wear to the hot spring. this is not made clear in the instructions, but we found out about it when we went to the hot spring. try to take up a dinner buffet (you can also wear yukatas to dinner/breakfast in the hotel) if you can as it can be pretty tiring after you have gone for the hot spring, you won't want to go out anywhere. furthermore, you'd have to walk around 10-mins to the food joint areas in the small town. wake up at 5am & go for the hotspring the following morning. much more better experience to watch the day brighten up.

Connected by bus from Osaka, the hotel is just a close walk from the bus station. We had a Japanese standard (tatami) room with a nice open view (saw a nice sunset!). The room was clean and spacious, had a massage chair (which we liked and enjoyed a lot) and nice Japanese decor. We had kaiseki dinner served in room, which was delicious and sumptuous. The hotel has three public onsens (male and female separate) and two private onsens which can be booked in advance. We enjoyed the onsens and there is nothing to complain about. The buffet breakfast in the morning included a wide variety of Japanese local specialities as well as some standard western food. We tried only the Japanese ones and were satisfied. Overall it was a pleasant stay and definitely recommendable!

This hotel is located in the nice town of Arima. It is big hotel and is showing its age. Through time there have been extensions with extra wings being built, making it hard to navigate sometimes.

We had a large (for Japanese standards) tatami room and as we were on a higher floor, we had a nice view of the country side. Inside our room there was a massage chair, which was nice to use after an onsen. Bathroom wasn’t big but functional; as one can bathe in the onsen.
Standard toiletries are provided and towels are given in the onsen.

This hotel had 3 onsen and some outdoor baths, which were relaxing. Yukata was given for everyone, including for the children.

As part of the rate we paid, we had a really nice Japanese style dinner, which included Kobe beef that you grill, and a small shabu shabu to cook some noodles. We also had breakfast in the rate. It was a buffet style, with mostly Japanese food items, but there were some western items as well.

It’s expensive but with decent sized rooms, nice surroundings, ample onsen facilities, and some delicious food, there is value for money.

We also drove there and parking is free.

Dear Sir, I apologize for the delay in reply to your request for information about transportation from Arima Onsen to Mount Rokko Snow Park. We checked and during the winter (the Rokko Arima Ropeway is closed) there is no other direct public transportation. On the Rokkosan web page you can find the detailed access and prices from Sannomiya and Osaka to the Snow Park. For access from Arima Onsen to Sannomiya please check Hyoe Koyokaku English web page. If you would like to go by mini-van taxi from Arima to Rokko Snow Park, one way/1 car it will cost approximately 12,000 yen (for 13 person 2 cars ). The price will vary if you will book the mini-van taxi for round trip, if you would like for the mini-van taxi to wait for you there, or just to come and pick you up at a certain hour. If you can give us more information regarding your trip to Rokko Snow Park we can let you know exactly the price for mini-van taxi and we can also check with the car rent company and see if there is a possibility to rent a mini-bus for 13 persons. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, Ayaka Yoshii Arima Spa Hyoe Koyokaku 1904 Arima-cho, Kita-Ku, Kobe, HYOGO 651-1401, Japan +81-78-904-0501
