It's not Ok when you arrive on time and wait 30 minutes for check in because nobody is there. It's not ok if I pay 11.340 JPY for one night and the bedroom is a nightmare. I didn't expect too much for one night, It was only for sleep and I thought it was ok but it wasn't! I didn't...

Rooms are dirty and old. I spent 3 nights here with my boyfriend and could not sleep because of cold and humidity in the room. Bed was not confortable and if you stay there less than 7 days your room is never cleaned. I would never come back again even if well located in respect of the city center and...

Let's start with the good things: the staff are very nice and they have free breakfast (just some croissants, coffee and tea). I didn't see this in other japanese hotel. Quiet room. Bus stop in front. The bad things: the room is not comfortable and ugly in general, cold in autumn, no heat. The mattress is very thin and hard....

Room at back very quiet. Split aircon worked a treat during freezing temperatures. 15 mins walk from station in one direction and Gion in the other. All basics covered - plenty of toiletries, piping hot water, hair drier and gown. I travelled alone this time, but think my husband would have struggled with the cute, but 'compact' bathroom space. Cozy...

I'm sorry to say but our visit to Econo-Inn Kyoto can only be described as scandalous. The staff are really nice, but that do not change the fact that the rooms are unhealthy! Dirty and infected with black mold! We rented two rooms and both were in the same condition. The curtains where covered in dust, there where yellow stains...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
