Selected this hotel because of its location for access to trains, bus and taxis; and room style and it delivered. The hotel is really part of the railway station which in itself is a piece of dynamic architectural work worth traveling to see and experience. The hotel is huge but in the 4 days I stayed and it was full,... More

We stayed here for two nights on our round trip of Japan. The hotel is well positioned as part of the Kyoto station complex, so getting around from hotel, by tube, train, bus or taxi is very easy. The downside is that the hotel is so big, you inevitably have to wait for lifts, and in particular, the queue for... More

Everyone has said it already: amazing staff (they put me straight to the front of the queue and served me right away when I asked where the check in queue was), spotlessly clean, beautiful toilet/bathroom (i'm going to model my own after theirs - i spent hours in there because it was just so nice), plenty of space even with... This hotel is a very large and modern hotel and perhaps a touch impersonal. Having said that it provided very good facilities with plenty of space and a comfortable bed. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I stayed for 5 nights and ate in one of the hotel restaurants on three of the nights which were very convenient and... More

This was the last stop on my honeymoon--Kyoto. It has such a convenient location right next to the train station! The hotel staff have been very friendly, several resturant options in the hotel and surrounding station area. Rooms are big for Japan, bed and pillows are comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. Fast/free Wifi in the hotel room.

For me--I conduct tours--this is the best hotel in Kyoto. When my group is ready to go to Himeji to see the castle, or to Nara to visit Todaiji, we simply take the elevator to the train level of the Granvia Kyoto STATION Hotel and we board our train. Furthermore, this hotel is the center of Kyoto's subway, bus, and... More

We have visited this hotel at least 4 times and it will remain to be our #1 choice whenever we visit Kyoto. Being right on top of the JR train station, it is accessible to bullet trains and local trains alike. Local bus terminal is right outside the hotel so catching local buses for sight seeing is extremely convenient. The... More

This is the 2nd time I stayed at Hotel Granvia Kyoto. The first time I was with my family (we occupied several rooms) for a week in 2014. The second time was overnight with my husband. We stayed in the SUPERIOR TWIN ROOM. Room was very spacious for a Japan hotel. There were 2 twin beds, a small table and... More

Hotel Granvia was a really nice hotel. When I booked the room, I accidentally booked smoking so I asked them if they could change it to non-smoking, and they said they were fully booked out of non-smoking, so they said they would deodorise my room. When I got there, they ended up upgrading my room for free instead because they... More

I stayed here before and the location is perfect so that is why I returned with my family. Didn't even have to walk outdoors to get to the train to go to the Osaka airport! We had a lot of questions regarding restaurants, ordering (food) online, getting directions and the staff at the concierge have always been most helpful and... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
