I picked this hotel because it's so close to Kyoto Station and to my surprise, it is also close to Yodabashi and other shopping malls. Our stay was very pleasant as my family and I were able to enjoy the traditional ryokan experience. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. The rooms were clean and the misc. items inside...

It is so close to the Train Station, just cross the street, so save you taxi. The breakfast is Japanese style, and every exotic and surprise to us. The service is good. But the room is not attractive. The wall paper is old, and some places had broken spots. The towels are so thin? Consider the relative low price, it...

We wanted to experience a ryokan for a night. We liked the location near Kyoto Station. The staff was friendly. We enjoyed the welcome mochi in our rooms. The staff made sure our robes fit properly shortly after we arrived. We had a private bathroom and a separate area for the little fridge by the window. We had the kaiseki...

This hotel is at a convenient location close to train station and shopping. The room is Japanese style and is clean but slightly dated. Staff is very helpful and friendly. It has a public Japanese style spa in the basement. We stayed on the fourth floor where there's a party room catering are. The party crowd were a bit noisy...

We chose this place because it's a very short walk to Kyoto Station and features Japanese-style rooms. Located in the busiest part of town, our room was nevertheless very quiet and spacious. Service was excellent. We didn't eat here, so can't comment on the meals. The veranda furnishings were a bit sparse, but everything else was fine. Note: Japanese-style rooms,...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
