I had a problem during my check in. When I realized my room was very small, I asked for a upgrade. The woman has informed 3 different prices: 60 dollars more for the period, and then 20 dollars per night in a smoking area(I had choosed non smoking level) and the third and last was 80 dollars per room per...

Modern typical luxury Japanese hotel: friendly detailed average English speaking Japanese staff. As usual mini sized rooms if you don't opt for suite or luxury. Free onsen inside but at main floor so less privacy.

Was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room. Room was a bit on the small side overall, but very well designed and maximized the usable space. The location is pretty good, as it is about an 8 minute walk to the nearest subway station, and there are lots of good restaurants within walking distance around the area. Staff were...

Very good location in Kyoto, only 5 - 8 minutes walk from the Karasuma Subway station. Good restaurants such as Nishinotoin Diner, a good place to have traditional Japanese breakfast. Or the やよい軒 四条烏丸店 (Yayoi noki) for lunch or dinner... and many Izakaya restaurants to pick from around the block. Rooms were very clean, guest reps were very accomodating despite...

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The room is small by any standards but this is Japan. Nice comfy bed, fully equipped with all conveniences, even a trouser press. The bathroom has a shower within a bath tub and had lovely warm water at a good pressure any time of day/night. Breakfast was a full hearty Japanese fare with...

This is a nice hotel that is conveniently located within Kyoto. The hotel is clean with good facilities, an especially good hot baths. The staff are helpful and the buffet has a good range of food. The downside is that the rooms are small without the space you need to lay out your suitcase.

Check in was fast and friendly. Hotel room was small but modern. The location is pretty good. The nearest tube station is around a 5 minute walk away and the hotel is a 10 meter walk from the main street that leads to the heart of Kyoto. For the price, this hotel is fair. PS: I just read that the...

This hotel has the basic right, with small, modern, clean rooms with everything you need. There is no business center, but the reception staff was very helpful with printing and scanning some documents for me against a small charge. It's a good location if you plan on exploring Kyoto for 1-2 days.

After a comfortable stay at a sister hotel in Hiroshima, we looked forward to our six nights here, the first three as part of a tour group. At day five, we cannot wait to move on. Our discomfort could be easily fixed by placement of two regular-sized single beds in the large single room staff said we were allocated for...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
