I can't help but to immediately write this upon check out while I m still at their hotel lobby. The experience here was really unpleasant and what was not I expected from Mitsui Garden Hotel chain which I have stayed before. 1) I checked in quite late into the hotel, which was about 10.00pm. Although my room rate was a...

This hotel was decent and I had pleasant 3 night stay. Rooms are smaller than what westerners are use to but its Japan. It was clean and near many restaurants and shops. The hotel is about 1.5 miles away from Kyoto station so you need Taxi or Bus to get to hotel.

This hotel is located along Shijyo street and it takes 10mins from Shijyo station of subway on foot.I think it is convenient that you can access Kawara-machi and Gion on foot from the hotel on foot. When you access to this hotel from Kyoto station, you can take subway to Shijyo station (2nd one from Kyoto station) and walk. I...

This is a quiet place to stay in Kyoto. It is situated not far from a subway station and there are buses you can catch even closer, with bus passes available at the hotel. The room is clean and quite large. Cons: The bed was too small in my opinion, and a bigger bed would improve the hotel a great...

It's a little further away from the action than anticipated, a good 10-15 min walk to Nishiki market. We were there around Christmas and there were a lot of guests whether you're waiting for the elevator or using the public bath; although the front desk was always well staffed with short wait times. The rooms are starting show some age...

It was my first time in Kyoto and we were 3 people travelling. I found Mitsui Garden thru Tripadvisor and I am so happy that i selected this hotel. We arrived 1am from a long trip and a drive from Kansai Airport. At 1am the staff that checked us in was very friendly and accommodating. We needed to eat and...

I had a problem during my check in. When I realized my room was very small, I asked for a upgrade. The woman has informed 3 different prices: 60 dollars more for the period, and then 20 dollars per night in a smoking area(I had choosed non smoking level) and the third and last was 80 dollars per room per...

Modern typical luxury Japanese hotel: friendly detailed average English speaking Japanese staff. As usual mini sized rooms if you don't opt for suite or luxury. Free onsen inside but at main floor so less privacy.

Was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room. Room was a bit on the small side overall, but very well designed and maximized the usable space. The location is pretty good, as it is about an 8 minute walk to the nearest subway station, and there are lots of good restaurants within walking distance around the area. Staff were...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
