Decent, large hotels rooms. Bed was comfortable and bathroom had a nice, large tub. Locations was good within walking distance of Kyoto Station and Nishiki Market. Lots of good, cheap places to eat within a few blocks. Subway station is literally a two minute walk to hotel. We stayed for three nights and would stay again. Not a glitzy hotel...

This hotel was conveniently placed in the Gojo district of Kyoto and in close proximity to Kyoto station and karasuma which are great locations. The room itself is decent for the price, much bigger than you'd usually get in a Japanese hotel space wise. The staff was very nice and professional. The restaurant was decent but expensive for what you...

I couldn't have been happier with the hotel. It's proximity to Kyoto station makes it a great choice, especially if you are using Kyoto as a base by which explore other cities. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to help. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

An excellent place to stay in Kyoto. Hotel room is very clean, easy check-in, and hotel staff very helpful. 1 minute walk away from subway stations and buses. And 15 to 20 mins walk away from Kyoto station. Many restaurants and shops nearby. Walking distance to many tourist attractions. A must check-out hotel...

This was a lovely hotel very near to Kyoto station (1 stop by subway) and therefore quite central to anywhere we wanted to go. There were also plenty of places to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity, with Higashiyama and Pontocho Alley only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel and rooms were clean and quiet and...

Was there for 3 nights during my recent visit to Japan. The hotel is a nicely run small size hotel, located just steps away from Gojo station. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The bags I shipped from the Tokyo hotel were waiting for us in the lobby when we arrived, and even though we arrived arrived early, they...

100m from Gojo subway station or 15 min walk from Kyoto station, this hotel is a great option for the family. We had a room with 4 queen size beds on the top floor with a view of Kyoto Tower. Great base for exploring Kyoto and side trips to Osaka, Nara, etc. friendly and helpful staff. Clean, well maintained rooms.

I would give this hotel 3.5 stars if trip advisor made it possible. I booked this hotel at the last minute through Hotwire and had initially been hoping for a more upscale/recognizable chain, but this was better than expected. It was a huge relief that when I arrived at the Gojo subway stop in the pouring rain, the hotel was...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
