Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Excellent ryokan in kyoto if you wish to experience traditional Japanese living. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Must try the Japanese style breakfast, I'm not a breakfast person usually but it was excellent. Would definitely return and definitely recommend.

Thank you very much for your stay with us. Glad to know that you really liked our Japanese style breakfast. That was typical, local meal in Kyoto called Obanzai. I'm going to talk to our cooking chef about that. Hope your time here would be one of the highlights of your stay in Japan. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed at Toshiharu Ryokan for 4 days in September. First off, it is conveniently located only 1 subway stop from Kyoto station, making it easy to get to. We were warmly greeted when we arrived by staff who spoke excellent English and were given a tour of the

Thank you for your stay with us the other day. Glad to know that you liked our Japanese life style and enjoyed the cultural difference between ours. The breakfast is kind of a collection of what we usually eat at home. Hope you will visit our ryokan again soon! Thank you

My husband and I stayed at Toshiharu Ryokan last September while visiting Kyoto on our honeymoon. We knew we wanted to stay at a traditional ryokan, but anything sporting a private onsen was too expensive for a young couple traveling abroad. Toshiharu Ryokan exceeded all our

Thank you very much for your wonderful comment posted here. We can't thank you enough. It's our great pleasure to welcome you to our ryokan and share our culture with you. To be honest, we all clearly remember you, a lovely couple stayed in room Aoi. We are talking about how grateful we are to get such an amazing feedback from you, recalling the two nights you spent with us. We always try our best so that our guests feel comfortable during their stay here, experience Japanese authentic culture and learn the way we live. We are here to help them with everything they need so as to make the stay special and memorable. So we would be happy when they come to love Japan than before and feel like visiting our country again someday. Nothing can motivate and encourage us more than this. As you may know, we have 8 different rooms in total with unique features each. We would like you to try another type of the rooms next time in Kyoto. Although the weather in summer is very harsh, Kyoto has several aspects that you can enjoy through a year. For example, cherry blossoms at Yasaka shrine, autumn coloured leaves at Eikando, Kinkakuji-temple covered with snow and more. Again, we appreciate your comment. We are glad to have you here at the special moment in your life. Please say hello to your husband as well. We are truly looking forward to seeing you two again soon! Thank you

It's only one station by subway to Kyoto station, so I arrive in about 10 minutes. When they walk, it takes about 20 minutes. If it's a taxi, it's about 5 minutes (about about 700 yen). If it's a bus for 20 minutes when they walk to Gion, it takes about 15 minutes.

There is only one room with a restroom in inside of the building by a room name as May (satsuki). Other rooms go out of the room, and are immediately, but a shared restroom (3)and a bathroom (2) are.

Each room can fit 3 ppl easily. You can request for an additional futon (mattress). Just take note that the room next to the entrance is also near the stairs. So if you're a light sleeper, it will be better to request a room away from the entrance.
