the hotel locates just on the other side of the Kyoto Station, super convenient the room is amazing with traditional japanese style and bath downstairs for use. because we stayed for new year's night and new year day. It was expensive. The room and building is a bit old. I had an issue of paying by my citibank visa card...

Apart from not being particularly welcoming, the reception is not willing to give any advice nor touristic information, just giving maps and a basic "there are buses" or "maybe this place I don't know". In the morning, they also call you in your room, probably to remind of the cleaning so that you leave the room instead of waiting for...

We selected this hotel to experience the Japanese style rooms. The hotel is small, even though it is opposite to Kyoto station, it took a while to trace the hotel. There is no English sign board which could be seen from the station or main road. However, with the help of google maps and building image we found. It is...

You can choose between classic ryokan rooms and ordinaire western rooms which makes this a good choice for people travelling together when some of the group wants to try ryokan while others prefer a western bed in stead of the Japanese futon type bed. The staff speaks only a little English, but like most Japanese they manage to understand your...

The room is small but quite small but clean. Tatami, a small table, a fridge, wardrobe, amenties, etc. Above akl, the most convenient thing is the location just in front of Kyoto station. We tried the breakfast once and it was delicious, tipical Japanese, served by very nice staff.

While staying at the Matsumoto you will probably experience hotel related FOMO (fear of missing out). "If I had researched a little bit more or chosen differently I would have probably ended up at a better place for a similar price" That's what I kept thinking. The Pro's - directly across the street from Kyoto station - you can't get...

One nite I went back to hotel room after whole day sightseeing in Kyoto, I just found that there's no towels provided so I came down stairs telling the person at front desk, he asked me if I've tried to look for it, I said yes but I just couldn't find any, then he asked me to follow up with...

Absolutely what everyone wants to experience, and it was truly lovely. I did get a cab from Kyoto Station as I ended up on the wrong side from my outing of the day, and it can get awfully confusing, trying to manage luggage and directions, particularly if one suffers from sore feet or aching hips, which had happened to me....

A truly awful experience - tiny room with uninviting decor facing a brick wall on one side and back of a parking lot on the other. Even tinier bathroom that resembled one you might find on a ship with a leaky faucet and tiny plastic bag serving as a trash can. Old, thin towels, no closet space and the smell...

Literally right opposite Kyoto station. Cannot get a better location for this price and with rooms as nice and as big as these. Clean and simple and not poky like many hotels in Japan. My room had excellent heating. Enjoyed the public baths and the heated toilet seat in my room! The Japanese traditional breakfast was fantastic. Only drawback was...

    Staying in Shimogyo-ku

    Neighbourhood Profile
    Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

“Actually, you can stay in Osaka if you can't find a good place in Kyoto. It's just 15 min. away on a bullet train. (assuming you whole the JR pass). And sightseeing buses start at the terminal next to the train station.”
